Some time ago (in July) I had a weird problem which I later resolved, as below.

I have disconnected the navi screen and cd changer, drove a few Km's and after that when I start the engine, the mark "/!\" stays on. Even after I drive, the VSA light stays on.
There is no dealer I can go for service and no scanner available in a the 3000 square Km area. ;(

I jumped 9 and 4 pins. ABS blinks error 84 - "VSA sensor neutral position memorization".
Checked in the manual:
Image

Image

Big letters say: do not press the brake pedal.

I left the pins jumped (connected), turned the key, ABS light was off, I pressed "vsa off", then ABS light was on, again I pressed the "vsa off" button and nothing happened... ABS began to blink error 84 again.
I tried to jump pin 9 with just ground, but nothing changed...

RESOLUTION:

But few days ago I have fixed the problem myself without Dealer Scanner!
First of all you need to clear ABS errors (that is the main problem why i have failed earlier).

1) Jump pins 4 and 9.
2) Press and hold the brake pedal and switch on the ignition.
3) Wait for the ABS light to turn off and then remove your foot from the brake pedal.
4) Wait for the ABS light to turn on, then press and hold the brake pedal again.
5) ABS light should turn off, then remove your foot from the brake pedal.
6) Wait for two flashes of ABS light. If it flashes it means that errors are erased.

Check the errors (with the pins jumped) - just turn the ignition on, if ABS light does not flash, no errors are in memory.

Now the main part.

VSA neutral position setting

Do not touch the brake pedal anymore.

1) Jump pin 9 to chassis ground (I have used a bolt on a door hinge).
2) Turn the ignition on, after ABS light turns off, quickly press the "VSA off" button.
3) After ABS light turns on again, quickly press the "VSA off" button.
4) Now should be a lot of different blinks and flashes and all lights ABS, VSA and triangle should turn off. The problem's solved.
5) Open the beer bottle!

Really I'm not sure what was the real problem of the VSA error but I have some thoughts on this situation.

After I disconnected the navi+cd changer (HVAC if i remember correctly), I left the car for a while. Then after some time I have started the engine without HVAC unit and there was a triangle light. After I drove the car, the VSA light turned on. Maybe HVAC (navy+audio unit) disconnection is just a coincidence. Because few weeks before I had a problem with 1 tire. I hit the front wheel on a turn. I've driven a few km on a low tire (I just missed that part). After I changed to a spare wheel, I have driven to a garage. I am not sure if i pressed "VSA OFF" button, but for sure when I have driven to a garage VSA or triangle lights were not turned on. After this event i have changed four wheels but not tires and have driven about 100-150 km's also. I found that toe-in is lost, I went to a mechanic who fixed it, and after some time I disconnected HVAC unit.... After I have seen a triangle, I have tried to clear errors by removing battery but it did not help, after this I checked the manual, but there was info only about scanner ;(

Thanks for the info. I edited it to correct the English, but some things I still can't make sens of. From your last paragraph, I have no idea how a low tire or any problem with a wheel relates to you disconnecting the HVAC...
or how a wheel problem could relate to this error...

But the problem description itself and the resolution are now clear. Thanks for the contribution. You got reps for this FAQ.

So did you just run a wire from pin 9 to the door bolt?

I just had the left front hub/bearing and speed sensor replaced and now my VSA and /!\ lights are on.

Although this is an ancient thread, I want to say a HUGE thank you to Bardissimo for posting this!!! :bowdown1:

The only addition I can make is that pin 4 IS the chassis ground in the OBD-II connector as per:
On-board diagnostics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So no need to run the wire to the door bolt, just keep everything as in in 4-9 short circuit =)
I did this successfully and all the bloody yellow lights are off for tonight and ABS works. We'll see how they come back later. The only other thing is after you go through the steps and get down to the "have a beer" step, not to forget to pull the pin out of the connector prior to switching the car on again otherwise the yellow lights WILL go back on again and you'll have to repeat the 2nd part of this.
TSXClub rocks, unlike that "other" forum where folks were flaming each other saying that you can't short circuit the 4-9 OBD-II connector with a pin to read the codes.

Hello Bardissimo I really apreciate the time you spend on this post, your solution help me fix the triangle and VSA light on my Pilot Honda 2006 after I change the crankshaft oil seal, of course I took out the transmission and a lot of conectors but after assembly everything I had this problem, but thanks to you everithing is working again, I only have something left ! The beer bottle of course I will, I send you a hug from Mexico friend, regards !

Bardissimo - thanks worked on 2004 Acura TL. BUT to reset VSA I had to step on the brake pedal for the last step only of VSA procedure -- presto - all lights blinked and turned off. DDT - I found that I had to ground Pin 9 to the seat track bolt to make it work. Ground to pin 4 didn't work on the TL.

Gosh knows how much the dealer would have socked me for. Lived with this for a year. Key was clearing ABS!!

Excellent, the body shop did nothing, insurance would not pay for dealer. A car fell on my hood and triggered this light. I followed someone else that said hit the tcs on/off switch and it gave me error 84. I then followed yours and error went away and then the second part removed the triangle. On/off button works fine. Thanks a million....

Although I do not have a TSX (I have a 2006 Acura TL), I found this post to be the most complete on the subject.

Recently the ABS, VSA activation indicator (“!” inside the triangle) and VSA system indicator lights came on. Using an Autel scanner, I received DTCs for 16-1 (right rear wheel sensor), 18-1 (left rear wheel sensor) and 84-1 (VSA Sensor Neutral Position). Before taking on the 84-1, I ordered and installed new wheel sensors for both the left and right rear. Then I cleared all DTCs, then took it for a test drive. The ABS light was off and the 16-1 and 18-1 codes did not reappear. The VSA lights both came back on and the 84-1 reappeared.

I then tried to perform the VSA sensor neutral position memorization and thought that the Autel would be able to short the SCS as it has that function within the menu. It even asked if I wanted to continue “shorting the SCS”, which I clicked on “yes”. Once I turned the ignition switch to the ON (II) position and the ABS light came on, then went off, I hit the “VSA Off” switch right away, as per the instructions...the ABS light never came back on for me to hit the VSA Off switch again. Having trying this procedure 15-20 times (every time re-starting with the Autel to short the SCS), I gave up.

Instead of using the Autel, I decided to use your alternative method of shorting pin 9 using a paperclip, connected to a line to the negative (ground) battery terminal. The very first time I did this, the ABS light actually came back on after I hit the VSA off switch, but then the “TPMS” system indicator as well as the message “Check TPMS” came on the multi-information display as I tried the VSA sensor neutral position memorization procedure. The other lights (VSA and ABS) would continue to flash with the TPMS, however I noticed that it was doing a count up of beeping...first it would go odds, then evens, up to 9 and 10 beeps. I tried about 10 times then gave up.

What puzzles me is when I start the car and drive it around, never once has the TPMS light(s) come on. I checked the tire pressure as displayed on the multi-information display, and it was all fine. I also checked using a tire gauge and all were within 1-2 PSI, so I adjusted so that they were exactly to spec. I cleared the 84-1 again, test drove it but the 84-1came back. I also re-tried the VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization procedure, but the TPMS message and light keeps flashing when I attempt to do so.

So here I am....84-1 DTC, VSA lights both on and I cannot complete the VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization procedure, which should fix the 84-1. Any suggestions/ideas?

Awesome thread! Just used this on my 08 TSX and it worked great! Found a used yaw sensor (P/N 39960-SDA-A01) on eBay for $35 shipped.

Thank you to the OP (and all else that contributed) for this thread! It was certainly a great help!

Thanks,

Brian

This is exactly what I did to solve the problem...

Hardware exchange...

IIRC, there are a total of 5 bolts that need to be removed. There is a metal cover panel, and then the sensor. My carpet had a few access holes already, but I found it necessary to make one more cut from one hole to the next to pull the carpet back enough to remove the sensor.

Once the new sensor is in, reassembly is just the reverse. Simply reset the ABS computer and then re-calibrate the new VSA sensor.
Then on to the computer resetting...

1) Jump pins 4 & 9.
2) Turn the ignition on, after ABS light turns off, quickly press the "VSA off" button.
3) After ABS light turns on again, quickly press the "VSA off" button.
4) Now shoud be a lot of different blinks and fashes and all lights ABS, VSA and triangle should turn off. The problem's solved.

Thanks again to all!

Thanks for the information. This procedure works on Honda Accord 2005 V6 as well except I have to press VSA/TCS off button twice each time in step 2 and 3.

Thanks.

Just tried these steps on my 05 Accord Hybrid with a TCS light and TRIANGLE ! light and it worked even after my local honda dealer told me i needed a new ABS ECU Module. I obviously didn't need that part and I can't wait to go tell those clowns at the dealership. Thank you for saving me the money and hassle. All you need to perform this fix is a paperclip or wire and a bottle of beer to celebrate!

Thanks again to all who contributed to this thread. Ironically, we had searched the WWW and did not find this solution and were directed to this thread by a representative of Autel. I hope this is OK with the moderators/owner of the forum. My wife contacted them and they could have sold her a code reader that we would have used once. I really appreciate that they helped her. The van was running fine and I was dragging my feet on this. Thanks again to them and the participants to this thread. Our story:

We have a 2007 Honda Odyssey VSA light on! This solution worked for us. We started having issues with the transmission that ended up being due to loose battery cable ends. The battery had died a few months earlier and my wife had taken it "somewhere" and they did not tighten the cables. Also, I added a light coat of Vaseline to the posts and cable ends and the corrosion has not come back 5 months to date. Anyhow, a shop had run the codes prior to us figuring out that the battery cables were loose. There were a bunch of weird codes that came up and the tech went straight to the battery. After tightening, he cleared them all and the only one that remained was the VSA light.

Re: instructions below, I want to add that you need to press the button and brake pedal pretty quickly in the described succession. It took me a few times to get it right but it worked. I have recopied the instructions below as they worked for me. Good luck!

1) Leave jump pins 4 and 9 in place
2) Turn the ignition on, after ABS light turns off, quickly press the "VSA off" button.
3) After ABS light turns on again, quickly press the "VSA off" button.
4) Now should be a lot of different blinks and flashes and all lights ABS, VSA and triangle should turn off. The problem's solved.
5) Open the beer bottle!

Thank you from Texas!

Hey, Bardissimo....thank you for posting this. That light has been on for over a year and I have been hoping there was a simple solution. Tried your method yesterday and the light has not come on again. VSA is working perfectly as I found out when I took a corner a little too fast in the rain (on purpose) and the system kicked in like it was supposed to.
