Hid kits for fogs and hid replacement bulbs

Hey guys I just wanted to get some opinions on the hid kits available on eBay. I wanted to pick up some bulbs and a hid h11 kit from DDM tuning but they only ship ups and that is bad news for canadians. I was just wondering about the quality of the hid kits and bulbs available on eBay or another source that does not solely use ups as a courier.

I bought a pair of after market d2s bulbs for my low beams and after a year and 6 months one of the bulbs are gone. Is this normal for the life of after market hid bulbs?

I've got the Xentec slim ballast kit off of ebay on my TSX's fogs and in my Si's fogs and have had no problems. They are great cheap kits. If you want a really nice quality kit I would recommend Xenon Depot. I have there 4300K Phillips kit in the headlights of my Si. They are a bit more pricey though.

I've had the kit on the Si for about a year now and the one on the TSX for around 4 years.

And during the years you had it for your tsx you didn't have to replace the bulbs at all?

Of this is the case I will go with xentec do you remember who you bought the kit from on eBay?

I did a search for Xentec kits on ebay - the prices seem kind of fishy - some of them are charging 29.99 i.e. HID KIT XENON H1 H3 H4 H7 H11 H13 9005 9006 9007 Xentec:eBay Motors (item 270448156265 end time Oct-28-09 18:53:00 PDT)

but 80 dollars for shipping to Canada - wondering are there any legit sellers there.

Yeah that's what I was thinking no way they cam sell something decent for that price.

So anyone got input on the life span of their after market hid bulbs? I was wondering whther it was my fault when I installed it. May be I touched the bulb surface by accident and caused it's short lifespan.

I think I might have to end up going with ddc even if I have to pay the brokerage fees that ups charges so much for.

I would say that it could be the type of bulb you used, how much do you drive? Aftermarket bulbs never seem to last as long for some reason.

I use them on a daily basis mostly for 60 - 90 minutes. What do you mean what type - I bought 6000k D2S for low beam replacements.

Hey guys,

I did some reading on Brokerage fees - this is interesting:
UPS "Brokerage Fees" - Page 3 - ehMac.ca

Its a guide to avoid brokerage fees from UPS

Ya, that price is bogus. It's $30 but an additional $30 for shipping for us in the U.S. So realistically it's $60 shipped which is the going rate for these type of kits. I assure you they will last awhile. Just be sure you buy from someone in the U.S. and that they offer a warranty. I buch of the guys over on 8thcivic use these kits as well. Very low number of problems.

My real quick 2 cents of experience...

I've had 3 HID kits. 1st was a cheap kit from some site I don't remember anymore but a friend suggested. The first ballast lasted about a month. Couldn't get it replaced, couldn't get my money back. I replaced it with a kit from retro-solutions - the place that did my tail light retro-fit and eventually my headlight retro-fit. I got the 55W digital kit:

Results for 55W DIGITAL HID kits

I used it every time I drove for about a year until I got my headlights retrofitted with TSX projectors and needed to use a different sized bulb. I sold them to a friend about a year and a half ago that could use that size and they're still running.

I replaced those with a 35W digital D2S kit:

D2S DIGITAL HID kit LIFETIME WARRANTY

Went down to 35W in case the heat from 55W would be too much for the paint job I had done on my headlight casings. I've use my lights every time I've driven for the last year and a half. In my experience it's much better to buy from retro-solutions because these kits last, and they have a lifetime warranty. This is the guy who did my retro-fits and I have nothing but great things to say about his customer service. Anyway, I'd recommend getting a kit from him - if it's plug and play to a TSX - which is actually why I signed up for this site to get some help on that:
