Installing a Few Aftermarket parts and was hoping for feedback please.
Hey guys i have had my 2005 TSX Automatic for a few years and felt it was time to upgrade its performance. I DO NOT race but i drive long distances on the expressway and just wanted to add a little boost to the cars performance is all. Hopefully all these mods will be done all at once through a reputable business here in miami, Fl when i decide to go through with it.
This is what i hope to achieve through these enhancements....
1) Increase Responsiveness
(Basically go from 0 - 60 faster than i normally would stock)
2) Increase Sound
( I would like for the car to have a deep LOW growl but i DO NOT want to be heard a mile away)
Ill take advice on ANYTHING but i have been reading a lot and i am kinda set on the CAI and the exhaust. What i am really interested in your opinion on the Header and the Reflash but again chime in on anything please...
Cold Air Intake
Injen CAI System w/ MR Technology Converts to Short Ram
SP1431P
http://www.injen.com/docs/other/sear...lID=146&Eng=L4
Exhaust
GReddy Street Performance 2 - SP2
http://www.greddy.com/products/displ...&SubCategory=1
Reflash
I heard a can get an Acura TSX 04 Automatic ECU and get it reflashed for my Acura TSX 05 Automatic....
I basically want to know how much would this cost me
and the pros and cons
Header
I have no CLUE! plz help
I found a few posts comparing headers and showing improvements of like 10 hp what do you guys think
http://www.racingbeat.com/2001header/headertest.htm
http://www.team-integra.net/forum/di...g+Common+Topic
http://daliracing.com/v666-5/info/gr...at_header_test
I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to kinda give me an order as to what will increase my 0 - 60 speed ... kinda like
CAI - 1st - increase of W hp
Exhaust - 2nd - increase of X hp
Header - 3rd - increase of Y hp
Reflash - 4th - increase of Z hp
Thanks in Advance
Eddie

Welcome to the club.
I'm not a huge mod person, but I do know that Hondata does not make a re-flash for the 2005 TSX with 5AT.
http://www.hondata.com/reflash.html
There are TONS of threads already posted with most of the info that you are looking for, just try the search. It will probably be easier than all of the individual responses that you will get.
Good luck and happy modding.

You seem to have the same idea that most people on this forum have about performance and sound. Like griffojm said, if you do a search you'll be able to find all you need.
As for your gains. I would not expect a whole lot for how much money you'll be spending. The cai will maybe give u 7-8, the headers up to 15, the reflash is roughly 20 added to your peak (5k rpms). And for the exhaust, well you have to be careful or you may actually lose HP. But they all go together, so more free flow with other free flow parts should be a cumulative gain. These numbers are conservative, but IMO realistic.

Go with the Injen MR CAI that you have listed. If you got dough, look into the Mugen box or J's racing intake. www.kingmotorsports.com
As for exhaust, look at Type 1 Racing, they have a decent exhaust that has a nice low sound. I have also heard great reviews frm the Tanabe Touring Super Medallion exhaust. go to these sites
www.aj-racing.com
www.t1rusa.com
As for header choice, thats all dependent. I have the Comptech Header but it does have a rattle problem, however I have gotten rid of it with my customized hanger for the Catalytic Converter. There is the DC Header, Mugen one $$$$$$$, Topspeed from Ebay and if you go to www.newlevelmotorsports.com, the have a customized header for our TSX's. I got the Comptech one because its CARB exempt and I live in CA. I'm not completely sure about the other headers, whether or not they are CARB exempt, but I know the Comptech one is.
Hondata would be a great addition and a must have. I can't do it cuz I got a 2007 but I would if I could. Best bang for your buck, seriously.
Good luck, also, I don't know how mechanically savvy or interested you are but these mods are fun and relatively easy DIY jobs. There are threads on here for these mods with instrutions and pictures. Also, you can pick up a Genuine Acura Service Manual for the 04-07 TSX's(its the same and only one the mechanics at your Acura Dealers use) at www.handa-accessories.com , there's another site as well but I forgot.

For the ECU, you have to find someone who is willing to swap or buy one from the junkyard. I don't think theres a place that sells them alone.
If you have the money go Comptech.

You can buy a BRAND NEW 04 5AT ECU and immboilizer @ the dealership, or you can find it online. I purchased mine from Jay in this forum, but you can also find it on e-bay. It's a pretty rare items so be patient. I got mine from Jay w/ a big big discount price, but usually, they can go as high as $400+.

i was just curious but how about looking in junkyards...
If i can find the chip and the immobilizer at a junkyard could i just then buy a key like the switchblade key at flbusa.com and use that?
Then i would have my original 2005 system and a the used 2004 system with a switchblade key...?
Could i do that?
The chip located in the steering column and the immobilizer is like under the stereo right....?
Thanks in Advance

If you are looking for a little more power and not real loud then Injen CAI, comptech header, and anyone of the following exhausts will work just fine for you: Greddy SP2, Apexi WS2, Tanabe SHM. I have the comptech header for over a year now and only felt the vibration twice and both times I was stopped and had the A/C on and it was a very small vibration that was barley felt. Hope that helps.

I AutoX my car, but otherwise its a daily driver, it makes trips back and forth from PA to NY Constantly, and Trips to Vermont in the winter, so I wanted my car to be a conformable cruiser as well: Here is my set up (engine mods wise): K&N CAI, UR Pulleys, DC Sports Headers, RT Cat, and Comptech Exhaust
The Comptech Exhaust i think is one of the best for what your describing, its loud when i want it to be, otherwise its nice and quiet when i dont, the, Tannabe and the Fujitsbo are the same way. The G'Reddy Exhaust is a bit too loud imo, having driven 2 cars with it on.
Now as I mentioned above, and you did not, the UR Pulleys are a great way to get some more response, particularly in Automatic mode when you need to get on it fast, IMO the Pulleys and the RT Cat were the two biggest seat of your pants mods.
Injen is a good intake, personally I have K&N, however noise wise, both Injen and K&N can be described as an Angry Elephant while underload. so once again if keeping a semi-stock, M3 style noise going on, id go for Comptech, Mugen or J's Racing's Box Design, rather then a CAI piping.

I have an 04 AT. Been using the comptech header for about two years. have the DC header waiting to replace the comptech header this spring.
The build quality of the comptech is alot better due to the fact that its made of stainless steel where the dc is ceramic.
There has been flexpipe issues with the dc where its prone to cracking but the newer version has been reinforced. Not too many cases of the new version breaking at the same point yet. but only tme will tell.
In terms of performace, they are pretty much the same. Might be slight edge to comptech, but its very slight.
The dc header has been known to have a bit of a hissing noise.
The main problem with the comptech is with AT cars is that there's a rattle at idle in D. It has to do with that its a one-piece part and once the rubber support in the middle of the header starts to wear out/gets loose, the header is not tight and rattles.
I thought i had it fixed when I replaced my rubber hanger mount with a new one, but about 8 months later, it came back.
It has made me decide to get rid of the comptech header.

Thank you for the responses...
@ tsxd23
Thanks for the feedback on the Comptech Header
@MemphisRheins
What do you mean when you said
"if keeping a semi-stock, M3 style noise going on, id go for Comptech, Mugen or J's Racing's Box Design, rather then a CAI piping."
Are you trying to say that you would just drop the CAI and just get a header?
@ pcdawg
Thank you for giving me the personal experience you had with the Comptech I hope the DC Sport works out for you..
Just curious but
1) How much did it cost to fix the Comptech header
2) Is it something that normal person can fix with normal tools or is it something i have to send in...
TIA
Eddie

The quick fix for the comptech header is just the rubber support piece that holds the header in place. Over time, the piece will wear out due to the header shifting and stretch out the piece.
If you are stuck with the comptech, probably the best solution is to get it replaced once a year or so.
Its cheap at the acura dealership. I believe it was $5.00 cdn.
Just goto the dealership and with the parts dept look at the pictures and you will see only one rubber piece that can be purchased.
In terms of replacing it is easy. Just slide the one old out and replace it. The new one will have a very tight fit so it would bee easier to jack your car up to replace it.
