DC Header Flexpipe FIX w/ pictures. (56K go upgrade your thing)

Long story short, after 2 years ownage of the DC Header, the flexpipe has served its duty well, or does it not? Anyways, according to my 08 mod plan, one of the most important FIX is the flexpipe, I have no idea when it started to hiss but for sure it's more noticable since the beginning of 08.

With a bunch of reading and research from TSXClub (Thx), AZ, CRSX, and even Civic forum, I figured what I need, and where to fix my flexpipe.

I've ordered a double-braid flexpipe as recommended, I swear it looks nice and sharp, until the shop told me the size is wrong and it's not up to their standard.

** My research told me the DC flexpipe has a 2.25" opening; but Scott told me it's 2" by just looking @ it. He's right. I measured the DC flexpipe @ home and it has a 2" opening, not 2.25".

HotRodScott - The name of the store, and obviously the owner is Scott. It sounds like a domestic garage to me, but w/ 30+ experiences on exhaust, I have confident in them. Scott became a technical consultant now and his son did all the work.

Indeed, they took my flexpipe, and swap in theirs. The quality and finish of their flexpipe is expectional well. So nice that they said it worth $120 alone. (I phoned them 2 weeks ago and they said $120+$40 labor, so it's not a lie). I walked out w/ their professional and time efficient service for $80, WELL WORTH IT.

Some pictures before conclusion...

Waiting to get fix...

Ugly DC Flexpipe.

Quote from Scott's son ... "Your DC flexpipe is too garbage, can't believe they use this shxt on their header... let me chop it off for you "

This guy do it in a professional and time efficient way...

More..

More welding...

O snap, see that shinny thing...

Done...

HotRodScott, a store w/ 20+ experiences on exhaust system, they do custom stuff too...

DC garbage 1

DC garbage 2

Conclusion.

After the flexpipe swapped, I swear my car is strange. Strange in a way that I'm so unfamiliar with. The deep deep rumble noise, super quiet cruise, and responsive low-end torque was just so NOT my car~! I always thought my low-end torque sucks because of my CAI, but I guess not. Did I complain cruising @ 120km/h gave me that drooling noise? I can't hear it anymore... I don't need to downshift as much as before to get go, and hey, I was expecting a slight hissy sound from my High-flow cat but I was wrong. QUIET. PERIOD.

I love this and it's the BEST $80 I have spent.

One note: My car "seems" slower on high-rpm range now, the rpm climb slower in 6K+ and not as dramatic as before. My thought was the flexpipe crack (leak) might have better exhaust flow than no crack??? Or it's a placebo effect that I'm experiencing??? Anyways, I'm happy.

Great pics LOL

Love your cusco brace, still in mint condition

When i swapped my comptech header for the dc header, i felt a difference. The comptech header was a whole lot smoother and did find the bog around mid-range in the dc header. Im sure its not due to the crack in the flexpipe as there was not crack or damage.

Ill definately check out hotrod scott when the time comes once i get that leak/hiss on the DC header.

Comptech is the way to go, but unfortunately for alot of AT users, it has rattles so the dc header is the other alternative. Looks like a good professional job on keeping the dc header working longer

I have a Topspeed header and I really hate the hissing. When I rev my car it sounds like I have a fake blow-off valve installed with all the whistling I get. I'm going to get this fix done as soon as possible. Thanks for posting this thread.

I might take the Cusco Lower Arm Brace II off soon, it's pretty scratch-up and I think I see some bent on it.

lol... That's what the mechanic said when I drove my car into their bay, he asked me if I had a Turbo on my TSX, haha.

Definitely worth your little time to replace that flexpipe. It's a whole new experience.

i m confused?!? i dunno.. anyway,

jason..

i have myself a dc header on my car already. and if i want to get it done like yours(to get rid of the hissing sound).. i can just bring it to any exhaust shop right? Also, i need to get myself a new flex pipe too ehh?

and after getting it done, is it still possible to get the headers out? I mean, isnt weld, something like sticking/holding them TIGHT?
Correct me if i m wrong, if i had it all done like yours, and i want to take the headers off my car, they will have to cut the pipe? so, is that good or bad?

(cuz i m thinking about the future when i sell my car) . . . not sure if i can sell the car with the headers on, without the buyer knowing that i have a DC header~~ dun think its good if i sell it to dealers, carmax, etc...

thanks.

1. Yes, any exhaust shop will do it; however, a quality shop will do a better job for sure.

2. You can order your flexpipe anywhere; I've order it online too but I found the exhaust shop has a better quality flexpipe. $120 VS $30 value.

3. They weld the flexpipe back to the header and the original joint, there's NO differences than the original header, therefore it can take off easily in one piece (as a header)

4. After the flexpipe fix, there's NO more hissing sound. Low-end (rpm) range has a massive improvement, while the high-end (rpm) range was weaker than before (when there's flexpipe leak)

Any question feel free to ask.

details please. is it an upgraded version of the 4-2-1 ceramic? does it address all the issues of the past TSX headers (hissing, length issues)?

No details or pictures. It was an unfinished raw header. When picked up the OEM one was back on the car. I dont think they are releasing any info yet so no point calling. I think its going into redesign so not going to be released any time soon!

I'm thinking of getting this done when I get back to CA. The hissing noise gets really annoying after a while. If any one in the 626 area finds a good shop that can do it please post it along with info on where you got a flex pipe. I was thinking of buying one from Performance Curve on eBay since the one they're selling is supposedly 3-ply and it was recommended in the other forum.

I know back in the day Valley Muffler out in West Covina used to be really good but I'm not sure how they are nowadays and if they can do this sort of stuff. If any one can find out please let us know. Thanks!

Bumping this because I never got around to having this done (I tried one local shop who didn't stock any appropriate flexpipes and then I got busy and forgot about it). I want to order the flexpipe online ahead of time and be able to just drive into an exhaust shop, give them the piece, and have them swap it.

Does anyone have a link to the exact flex pipe that will fit a DC/Topspeed header for our car? This thread confirms it's 2" diamater instead of 2.25", but I don't know the length of the piece we need.

Any help is appreciated. I have to get this fixed.
