Cold Air Intake justification?

On my 05 TSX AT, the only performance mods that I have done
are the performance cat-back exhaust system, and, the K&N
filter element...and I don't plan on doing anything more
performance wise....but, I have thought seriously about adding
the CAI system if the improvement would justify the cost....so,
here's my question.

Since the stock system draws its intake air from the same
location as the CAI would, and, since I already have the K&N
filter element installed.....do you guys think that the addition of
the actual CAI system would give that much of a performance
boost over what I have now and make it worth doing? Again,
keep in mind that I don't plan on any other performance mods....

What say you experts?

The factory airbox has a series of tubes, curves and tunnels that make it incredibly restrictive, so even if you are drawing air from down below its far from optimal, the Cold Air Intake is essentially a straight tube, so theres little to no restriction, so the car breathes easier, think of it as a straw, do you get better flow through one of those "crazy straws" or just a straight one.

That being said, Gains have been seen by simply removing the resonator and using the stock top section of the airbox with a K&N filter... so if you dont want to go all out for the CAI, and dont mind spending some time on your back, removing the resonators not a bad move.

..well, since I already do have a performance cat-back system
installed, along with the K&N filter thats already installed, I've
basically already done what you suggested above...so maybe I
will just leave it at that....thanks for your response.

Take a look at the thread made by me "How it works, CAI" that explains a little more about how the intake systems work, what I mean by resonator is the secondary part of the OEM air intake box the large box shaped structure below the bumper line, not the resonator in the exhaust.

Once you remove the Airbox resonator, the next step is debaffiling the stock box, would would consist of removing the Honeycoming from the inside of the stock airbox, with the resonator removed, and the airbox debaffled you have a cheap man's version of the Mugen/Comptech Airbox.

CAIs have a nice deep sound to them They can be quite loud as well, and they really roar at 4k+

Sorry guy...I misunderstood....resonator, to me, indicates part
of the exhaust, didn't realize one existed in the stock air box. If
I were to do what you said, I think that I'd probably go ahead
and do the CAI thing. Thanks.

Here's a thread that could help you. There is a link in the thread that has a video on removing the stock resonator. It should be helpful. Good luck!

An even better DIY Intake!
