Radar detectors!

Im looking for a radar detector on ebay for like 100 bucks or under, nothing special or fancy just want it to work. Just wondering which would be the best pick. Give me any thoughts of what brand and model.

Why not spent a bit more and get a V1? I wouldn't trust anything else other than a V1.

In cheap detectors, Motor Trend sorta likes the Cobra 9870 ($130) but ya gets whatcha pays for!

A good detector will cost less than the resulting speeding ticket and insurance increases.

....Or you could just try not speeding so much. That's always a good defense against the fuzz.

Radar detectors are not 100% effective. You'll probably get pulled over if you're the only one on the road at night because the cop will turn it on when you're almost on top of him, instead of leaving the radar on constantly. You have to be smart if you're going to speed, even if you have a detector.

- Don't speed if you're the only one on the road, especially if there are hills or places where the cops can hide.

- Don't weave in and out of traffic, it only brings more attention to yourself.

- Don't speed excessively for long distances. Doing over 100mph for a couple hours is a speeding ticket waiting to happen.

- Watch for airplanes flying low and along the highway. Speed traps aren't always in cars.

That being said, I have an old Escort Passport 5000 that seems to still work well for me.

Radar detectors? I have two of the original super-heterodyne, cast-metal-case Escorts (one with a 4-digit serial number!), two Passport 4600s, and two Valentine-1s. (All still work.) I also have a radio scanner. I just bought two Lidatek LE-30s (laser signal scramblers).

If you drive fast, you drive a lot, or you drive fast a lot ... you NEED a radar detector!

I used to use a radar detector.. But after I got my TSX, I put it away.. I don't know if there are radar detectors that can do this, but I wish radar detectors would beep whenever there is an ambulance/firetruck/etc. with it's sirens on so I know that it's near me so I can pull over... At certain parts of the city, you can't hear it so you have no idea an emergency vehicle is zooming through..

Actually there are radar detectors that are designed to give you an alert when emergency and construction vehicles are around (like mine). The only problem is that these vehicles have to be sending out a signal for it to work properly. I've found that it varies from city to city whether or not they have their vehicles send out this signal.

Hmm...mine does have the emergency tones/led..not sure if it's the same type of signal it receives.
I thought all service vehicles send that signal out whenever they're rushing to an emergency..or road construction...hmm...
