Tips on how to drive manual....
Hi guys, I just got my first manual car, its a TSX. I can drive it ok, but I have some trouble with rough shifts, starting from a stop in 1st then shifting to 2nd and finally starting off from a hill. I would like some tips from fellow TSX manual owners.

It isn't too hard to get used to driving a manual but the prob is getting started/learning. It jus takes practice to really get used to driving a manual. tbh I learned faster by driving up a hill haha, ppl say I am weird since it is apparently the hardest to drive up hill. All you can really do is practice driving more and more and you will eventually get the hang. 1st gear is always the hardest to master so don't feel bad. No one is good when they first learn so don't feel like you're on your own since we all been there. After a lil while you will get the feel of it and you should be driving well soon enuff. Practice makes perfect. I jus practiced on empty roads late at night and empty commuter lots so you can get used to stopping and going without messing up other ppl in traffic. Jus make sure you have plenty of room and you don't have anything around you that you may hit.

Practice, practice, practice. Starting from a stop and the 1-2 shift is most challenging when first learning. Find a good, empty stretch of road, or a big open parking lot, and practice starting from a stop. Get a good feel of when the friction point of the clutch (i.e. when it grabs), and it just takes practice to ease it out not too abruptly as well as avoiding the revs from dropping too much between the shifts.
Starting from a hill, you can do the handbrake technique being that you are starting out. Pull the handbrake up when you are stopped, and as you begin moving you can then let it down. This way it helps you from sliding backwards too much as you ease out the clutch.
Good luck!

yup all its all in practice, learning to balance ur clutch with the gas doesnt come overnight. DBW is also responsible for rough shifts because the gas is controlled by the ecu so there may be some lag time in between compared to a cable throttle but once u master it, its smoother than most cable throttle cars. drive safe and have fun with ur MT TSX

here is how I learned how to start on flat ground, not up hill. I taught my girlfriend and her best friend how to drive manual using this technique
1)First find a flat area.
2)Come to a complete stop.
3)Put the clutch all the way in, and put your car into first
4)Now slowly, gradually let off the clutch
5)Once you reach the "friction" point or "engagement" point, the car will begin to move!! (without you even gassing, just by controlling the clutch)
6)This is when you can accelerate safely without stalling
If you practice this over and over, you will get to know where the "engagement" point is on your clutch. Once this is mastered, you can learn to go uphill easier.
This point when you start to move, is when you can start to accelerate safely without stalling.

For the hill, I'd suggest find a small street with a tiny hill, say like a 20 degree incline. On my first car, I started out with a 45 degree incline and burned the clutch hard, learning.
Just remember when shifting to give it a bit of gas as you are slowly clutching out. For first gear, if you clutch out too quickly you'll get the jerky motion. In time you'll get the feel and can do this quickly without the jerk.

practice makes perfect....and if you have trouble with the uphill...just pull your ebrake..then release as soon as you feel the gears grab...

This is how I learned. I then drove the car off the lot and found some hills to perfect my skills..that was about 5yrs ago

Theres one thing on the video he never mentions you need to let off on the accelerator when your shifting and putting the clutch back in or did i miss it?
Its so natural for some people so i guess its forgettable.
When a few my friends were teaching me they forgot to tell me that, which didn't help their poor car.
