TL Type S Pedals Confirmed....

Afternoon, boys.

I'm not sure if many of us are aware of this (and judging by the 'search button', not many of us are), but the Acura TL Type S and the 1st Gen TSX share the same part numbers for AT5/MT6 accelerator/brake/clutch pedals, though, unfortunately, the Acura TL Type S did NOT have an aluminum dead pedal face available. I wanted to use genuine OEM, if possible, before going to an aftermarket supplier such as Strut King.

I purchased the brake pedal and accelerator unit from my local Acura dealer. The brake pedal was a simple insert/overlay that fit the pedal after removing the OEM rubber pad:

Installing the brake pedal was simple, as the kit even included four black blind rivets. Installation took a total of about five minutes (not including the time to polish out the aluminum cover).

Installing the accelerator pedal was an absolute nightmare! Very, very little room to work, very awkward position/contortions that you have to get into, and EXTREMELY wierd angles. All that is required for the installation is removing the throttle cable and loosening/tightening four nuts. In principle, it couldn't be simpler. In practice, no fun at all.

End result:

Honestly, after this install, I don't really recommend it (unless you MUST have factory parts, like me), because of the sheer difficulty of the accelerator pedal removal/installation. I found out that the accelerator pedal assembly is nothing more than an aluminum pedal face riveted directly over a standard plastic pedal, and not a special piece unique unto itself. Because of that, Strut King pedals accomplish the same thing, with a fraction of the difficulty. The fact that the aluminum pedal is pre-riveted over the stock plastic pedal is nice, but honestly, barely enough of a benefit to justify the PITA that it is to remove/install the entire accelerator pedal assembly.

I took it in the shorts for the team on this one, so I'd appreciate a rep point or two lol!

It does look/feel great though!

Very nice! +1 as well. Even though installation was difficult for the acceleration pedal, I'm sure you did not pay $250 for the pedal alone (which is the cost of the Euro-R assembly which looks exactly the same!)

Great writeup and awesome tip!

I have the Euor R pedals, all I did for accelerator is just swap the pedal piece only. Not entire pedal assembly.

Repped for an honest opinion and advice. I love reading reviews and hearing good things, but I love more when I hear about the hardship of a product so that members can get ready to tackle it instead of finding out about the problem half way through the installation

It happens to me so many times and I sometimes just wish members would tell me before hand what I'll have to go through with a product installation instead of letting me find out on my own and waste even more time.

The brake pedal cover is dirt cheap. And for a whole accelerator pedal assembly its not bad either. Good looking out!
