Got my car 3 months ago with 109K. So today I drove my 05 AT tsx to work fine. No slipping in gears, jerks or anything. So once I get home and find parking (NYC), I put the car back in drive and the car jerked 3 times and then finally changed gear!. Tried it again from park to drive then reverse to drive and it still jerked 3 times. I have not been racing or abusing my car and I'm scared that ill have to rebuild or replace the transmission. Car only has 111K now.:frown2::frown2::frown2::frown2:
My 06 5AT did the gear slip thing at around 70,000 miles (no scrapping sound). I just did an AT fluid change about 10K before that when the problem started happening. I did another AT fluid change at the dealership and the problem hasn't come back and I now have +130,000 miles on her. The 5AT fluid flush interval can be as low as 30K and as high as 120K depending on driving style. You might just be way over due if you don't know when the last time it was done. I would take it to an Acura dealership to do a 3X AT change, check for codes, and look for anything in oil pan (metal parts, dark fluid, milky looking fluid).
How much does it cost to change the AT fluid at the stealership? And yeah idk when was the last time the last owner changed the AT fluid, might have to do that
The dealership can do 3 quart drop the pan, replace filter, and replace AT fluid for about $100. The 3X exchange can cost up to 3X more because of the extra labor and fluid used. The 3X drain/fill/drive/repeat does a better job of replacing about 80%-90% of the old fluid. The TSX 5AT is one tuff S.O.B. compared to the previous gen Hond/Acura 4AT/5ATs. I would give this a try along with an Acura tech inspection before thinking about rebuilt/replace of the 5AT.
I wouldn't do a complete 100% AT flush at a "Quicky" lube place and I would only use fluids spec'd for Honda/Acura ATs (they have a certain amount of friction modifiers to help with smooth shifting, protect against temp related oil breakdown, and proper lubrication of metal/clutch parts) . I made the Quicky lube AT change mistake once with my old perfectly running 97 Honda Accord 4AT with 100K and my transmission died 4 months later.
Since the Honda "incident", I've go into the habit of doing the $100 drain/filter/fill every 30,000 miles at the dealership and so far so good for all three Acuras (TSX +130K, RDX +127K, MDX +75K).
thank you for the reply, I took it to the dealership and the did the 3x AT fluid change (hopefully, always skeptical about shops) and car has not had the jerking problem. Also the scrapping sound might have been me running over a flat tin can as I just ran one over this morning and made the same scrapping sound
I would also plan to flush the brake fluid (every 3 yrs or 30K intervals). I also notice an improvement in my steering on my TSX and RDX when I changed the power steering fluid (every 100k).
