That said, replacing it with a piece of aluminum that does not have a harmonic dampener can be damaging to your engine, like tearing your bearings apart and eventually throwing a rod.

There's an extended discussion on harmonic dampeners on this or "other" forum, search. Anyways, our car does not require the harmonic dampeners.
