View Full Version : Banned on a-tsx.com!

One thing about the internet is, there's always a way to say what you need to say. There are choices.
Some of you may know me from **************. Well, I was just about to post a regretful explanation over there about why I wouldn't be there any more -- in fact I did post it -- only to find that the post didn't appear. I don't know if I was "banned," or something else; doesn't matter.
For those of you who may be interested, this is what I was trying to post:
Soopa closed two threads today, regarding the deletion of the "Comments & Suggestions" forum from our site. In closing the more recent one, he put me on warning. Well, don't worry about it soopa, I'll save you the trouble. I'm outta here.
Soopa (along with some others) has said that the issues on threads like that are "personal" and should be dealt with via PM or e-mail. I don't think it's personal, I think it's a site issue when a forum, representing several months of posts and threads, is just deleted. (He said it wasn't deleted, it's just that we can't see it -- which is an interesting distinction.) Aside from what it means when an administrator decides that we shouldn't have a Comments & Suggestions board any more, it's worse when he doesn't even allow comment on it. In fact, there are a number of things he hasn't allowed comment on, such as any criticism of him.
Soopa seems to have forgotten, or maybe never fullly recognized, what got us here in the first place. I'm not talking about my own role, for which I've gotten way too much credit. I mean the kinds of errors and misjudgments that were made on the old site. Of course it's a lot better here, but in a small way this situation, as well as the conflict of a few weeks ago, echoes what happened over there.
Soopa has accused me of flaming or insulting him. As many of you have noticed, I don't do flames, even when I'm flamed, and even when it's very ugly, as was the case with some of Startle's recent posts. Usually I try to make light of it. I figure that's just the person's way of expressing himself, and while I don't regard it as admirable, it's just how it is. Some of Soopa's stuff was so severe that I had no choice but to respond at least a little bit in kind, but he's way ahead of me on that. Besides, a lot of what he did was hit-and-run -- i.e. flame, then close the thread -- so he had a lot of it to himself.
As I said once before, I don't feel that I've had any big conflict with anybody here except one person. But when that person is the site owner, it's a problem. Following that conflict of a few weeks ago, it seemed like maybe some good decisions had been made behind the scenes. I guess not.
I gained a lot from our site (both here and at the old place), truly a great, great amount. But when things like this come up and evidently will come up again and again, it ain't worth it. So there you are, soopa -- I saved you the trouble. I've had personal contact with a few people from the site, and hopefully that can continue.
Regards, Larchmont
P.S. Very soon after I was trying to post this over there, I saw that the "Comments & Suggestions" forum actually had been put back on the site.
I don't know how active a member I will be on this site, but obviously I'm very grateful that we have it. The internet is about choices. Yes, a site might not be a "democracy." But if you don't let people express themselves reasonably, they will find alternatives.

Hey Larch! Welcome. I've been cruising around here for a while.
It's unfortunate that the Soopa felt the need to ban you. With thousands of posts, you contributed significantly to the success of that site.
Soopa felt the need to completely discount one of my posts (the IT question) and I had to defend myself. I wasn't rude or anything, just stating my POV. After reading your post, I wonder if something will happen to me.
Also, Startle's comments were quite retarded, imho.

Hey, kite! Thanks for the support. About your stuff -- I'm sure there's nothing at all to worry about, it was very mild. Yes, he was a bit brusque to you, but that's kind of his style, which sometimes breaks out into something more.
Now that I'm here, I can ask you something I was wondering about over there, but we were never allowed to discuss freely, however harmless it was:
Since you were a member over there, why did you come here, when there was so much good stuff over there? I really didn't understand why people from there would venture onto a less active site.

I cruise this site and few others like Acuraworld, TOV and even ClubTSX just to see what else is out there and answer a few questions for those who haven't found a-tsx.com.
The admin here is pretty good about things about other sites. One of my first posts had a link to a-tsx.com and it was deleted automatically. I complained about it and he said it wasn't supposed to happen anymore and fixed it immediately.
No Gilbo, B-D or Startle (yet)!

The short of it is.......I'm p-whipped. :D
The long of it: It's my wife's computer, and..... Neither of us is very knowledgeable or feels very secure about computer-connection stuff, and so we minimize our operations. Sort of like it's mainly her, but not really. A few times I've wanted to do PM and a couple of times I actually did, briefly. But she's not hot on it, and even though I feel pretty sure there wouldn't be any problem about it, I'm not sure enough to fight on it. Besides, lest you get the idea that she's the paranoid one in the family, I do have my own computer, but haven't yet felt secure enough about the whole thing to even get it connected to anything except itself, and I'm not sure I want to. I know that if you use certain protections, it's pretty secure, but still.
Also: One time when I did enable the PM, it so happens that the computer went spooey a little bit, including that our e-mail got screwed up. I'm not assusming any cause-and-effect, but my wife wonders about it, and frankly I do too. Whatever.
P.S. Are you still surprised that I got banned? :D
Thanks for asking -- and glad you're here.
Greetings Larchmont,
It's been a while since I've seen your name, interesting and regretable to hear of another TSX site incident has occured. Didn't something like this happen previously over at Club TSX some time ago?
Anyway, welcome aboard and hopefully the same issues won't be reocurring here! ;)

Thank you.
And yes, it did. I could talk about how it was different, and it was this and it was that, but the simple answer is -- yes, it did.
People on these sites sometimes asked me what I "expect," and all of this has to make me wonder. I didn't think I expected much. But then again, despite my thousands of posts, I'm quite new to internet sites, and maybe I don't have the right idea of what to expect.
But then, again, maybe this could be the start of a revolution. :D
Because, what after all did I expect, and what kept getting me into trouble?
I expect that we should be treated with a reasonable respect and forthrightness; that we're not going to have "curves" thrown at us; that when strange things happen or are about to happen we'll be informed about it; that if strange things are done to the site by the administrators and we ask about it, we'll get reasonable answers; and that the administrators won't have a problem with questions being addressed to them or raised about them in their handling of the site.
Well, I guess you could say that's a lot. But it's nothing more than what is considered reasonable in virtually every other sector of our society, whether it be family, corporation, institution, or even (I suppose) a police station.
But maybe not an internet site?
I know there's plenty of room for argument with what I've said.
And, perhaps unlike some other people in the world, I'll welcome it. I'm always eager to learn. And in this world of the internet, I know there's plenty for me to learn.
But if there's one thing I'm quite sure of, it's that shutting people up is not a good way to run anything, and, in the long run, not a successful way.

I still say the more the better. I don't hold any site as better then the other. I just visit the more active ones more often.

Hey, Tony! Great to see you. I think very few of the people "over there" have any idea what went down. The mods know, and although for the most part their hearts and souls are completely in the right place, they ain't talkin', not publically anyway. But you KNOW they were talking about it plenty on the mod forum, and you know they're holding their breath for what happens when it hits the fan. Will be interesting to see.
And it WILL hit the fan.
Regarding your question: I covered that a little bit in the first post up there, but amidst my ramblings I didn't make it clear. Here's the story:
(1) Soopa deleted the whole Comments & Suggestions forum. Several months of posts and threads, out the window. Just deleted it, without asking anyone or telling anyone. I guess he thought nobody would notice.
(2) When I asked what had happened, he said basically three things:
-- He didn't "delete" it, he just put it where we couldn't see it. I said George Orwell would've loved that.
-- He did it because we didn't need a Comments & Suggestions forum.
-- Shut up or else I'll ban you. (He didn't say "ban," he said "warning," which I interpreted as the same thing.)
(3) I then submitted a post explaining why I was resigning from the forum, but it didn't appear; apparently he anticipated (or saw) what I was doing, and banned me first. (My first post here shows what I was trying to post over there.)
(4) Immediately thereafter, I mean within minutes, the Comments & Suggestions forum, which he had said we didn't need anymore and which he told me to shut up about, had magically been put back on the site, presumably by Soopa.
That's the whole deal.

BTW, Accsup -- how come you decided to spell "superstar" funny over there?
I was never even 100% sure that "superstar" was what you meant!
P.S. Too bad they don't have jumping avatars over here. Gotta do something about that, if they want it to be "hopping"..... :D

Maybe Accsup can show you some of his stuff. Or maybe you could look at his avatar "over there." (Remember, he spells his name a little differently there.)

Well larch ... hopefully you are going to make sure folks here know that it was mostly a soopa vs. larchmont and not some kinda ************** wanting to conspiracy theory (kinda like the ClubTSX thing got outta hand).
In either case all ... I am an admin over at a-tsx.com and a TSX owner thus like to spend time on all the TSX sites. I regret what happened between soopa and larch, but at the end of the day I am an admin (help run the site) and soopa is the owner ... as in he pays the $$$ to keep the operation going.
Anyway ... just wanted to chime in ... minimally. :D
P.S. Not sure stuff needs to hit the fan larch ... I strongly encourage you to work it out one on one with soopa (admin@**************) as I really think you just need to agree to disagree and just enjoy a-tsx and all other forums for what they are ... a place for TSX owners to hang out and share about their car.

Nice to see posts from you, FDL and Provench. You are good men. Heck, you're good people.
As Provench said, yes indeed, the thing "over there" was not any clear broad problem -- although I do believe that the issues that made the site untenable for me DID also rub some others the wrong way and (IMO) caused a few other key members to give up on the site.
FDL, thanks for the good humor in your brief post.
And Provench, thanks for the encouragement -- but given some of the ways of that site, it appears best to leave things as they are.
About stuff hitting the fan -- yeah, you're right, it doesn't need to.
All I'm saying is that it will. And I'll enjoy watching it. Kind of like hearing the eulogies at your own funeral. :D
Thanks for visiting. Maybe y'all want to come by now and again.

(Or, is that ability already there?)

Great to see you, Dom.
As I'm sure you can imagine, this is weird. And while I wouldn't have wished for it, I gotta admit it's interesting as hell. All of it -- seeing you guys visiting here, waiting to see what'll happen over there when the stuff hits the fan, plus just feeling like I'm out on Mars or something. And also it's been very interesting working with the admins/mods over here on improving the site. As you know, I like learning about things, and I've been learning a bit of "search science" and amateur graphic design.
And I can't tell you how terrific it is to find admins who not only don't flame you for giving suggestions and asking questions, but actually invite suggestions and questions, and act on them. And it appears that if strange things ever happened and we asked about them, we would gladly be answered. I guess that's all I ever "expected," which I remember you asked about a while ago.
Aside from that, I don't think it will be possible for me to "be good." :D

Soopa's playing games. Apparently he un-banned me, temporarily.
He let out a string of additional insults on a series of posts, including, ironically, calling me nuts. Example:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Originally posted by soopa
... i don't welcome him here... I'm glad hes gone. Good riddens to bad rubbish, IMO....Guy is nuts.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here's my final post over there:
Yes folks, I was indeed banned, Soopa's protestations to the contrary notwithstanding. And now it looks like I've been un-banned.
I kept trying to log in over the past week, but I was blocked from logging in (or posting). I'd say that's being banned.
I have known for some time that the site owner did not welcome me here. I was going to withdraw from the site back in October, but at the friendly urging of several of the mods, I stayed, although with restraint. I was even told that Soopa wanted me to stay, which I never believed.
BY THE WAY -- He is using the fact that I was browsing his site as supposed proof that I wasn't banned. That's BS. Yes, I could browse it, but I was blocked from logging on or posting.
That's being banned. Being able to browse has nothing to do with it.
----------------------
I won't be using this site to copy any more material from over there, but in view of the track record of stuff being deleted from that site, I wanted to make sure this post stays on the record.
Thank you, TSXClub.
And thank you, members of **************. Miss you.

Just noticed that Soopa actually REMOVED some of the content of what I posted, and he did it before I was able to copy it here.
Part of what he deleted (as best I remember):
The site owner [i.e. over there] has shown yet again that he is not averse to insulting and abusing his members. I'm sensitive to things like that, and it bothers me. And I will not accept it.
I can understand why he'd want to delete that.

Thanks again, Crazydude.
There sure is a lot of BS going on over there -- some people think I was banned, some think I wasn't, and even those who know I was banned are being led to believe it was only brief.
It wasn't. Soopa is playing games -- he keeps banning me and un-banning me, and even when I'm un-banned, I'm blocked from posting on certain threads and forums. Anyway, he's made it clear I'm not welcome there, and he's not my style either -- so I'm in the right place.
I just discovered that I had been temporarily un-banned, so I tried stating this on the site. And, the post did appear -- for maybe a minute, until it got deleted from the site.
Funny thing about the internet -- it gives creeps the ability to wield a lot of power, in a way -- but only in a small sphere. Because it also gives us the power to say whatever needs to be said, and to be heard -- because there are any number of choices out here.
Secrecy and suppression get you only so far in the world in general. On the internet, they get you basically nowhere at all.

To the mods/admins over there:
I know this is a struggle. I don't wish it to be. If you would like to know how to put this whole thing to rest, I'll be glad to help you out -- really. It's not that hard. Maybe you can figure something out yourselves, and I hope you do, but all you have to do is ask me and I'll help you out. And I can just about guarantee that it will succeed.
Don't worry, it doesn't involve my coming back.
BTW: To those mods who really believe I was only banned for half a day.... why do y'all think I've been talking from here?

I'm kind of surprised that most of them over there aren't getting it. They seem to think Soopa's telling the truth, that I could post whenever I want.
But besides that, they seem to think I'm mad about threads/posts/forums being deleted. Yes, those things are bad enough. But that's not it.
The problem is his rude, insulting, abusive style in dealing with questions and conflicts. (I'm sure he wouldn't like this characterization, but it's demonstrably true -- just check out his recent posts.) Plus the fact that he makes things up and hits you over the head with them when he feels like it, then closes the thread before you have a chance to set things straight. In car language, that's what you call hit-and-run.
As Majormojo said, we're like guests in the house of the site owner.
Well, I don't want to be a guest in the house of anybody who acts like that.
I'm surprised that anybody does.
But obviously they do. And that's what makes me wonder what it is that people think should reasonably be expected on an internet site, as I ask on another thread.

Hi larch,
I've tried to stay out of the drama of this whole ordeal (too dramatic for me!), but I thought I'd say that I'll miss your presence over there nonetheless. Also, I can attest that your 'last stand' post that starts this thread did indeed appear on the site quite briefly before it was deleted. I was at work - not working, obviously - when it appeared I read it, and when I went back to the forum it was in it was gone.
Oh well - I'd like to see you back there but I don't think it will happen. I'll have to stroll over here from time to time - maybe the next time Rush opens his big mouth ;)

Thanks for visiting, Jason, and thanks for the encouragement.
You are one of the people I'll be missing the most. There are very many, but you are absolutely in the top echelon in my book. Whenever I do take a look over there (which is often), you're always one of the people that I look for.
As I've said elsewhere on here, I'm not looking to get people to desert from there to here, but I do hope indeed that you might feel like strolling here occasionally.
BTW a lot of what's being said over there about me and my status really isn't true. I'm sure that almost all of the moderators are sincere and that some of them (e.g. Dom, Justin) have just been misled or misinformed. And some posts that have attempted to set the record straight have been deleted or edited by the admin.
It's frustrating how the owner of the medium controls the message. But that's reality, and that's life.
Thanks again for stopping by.
Best regards -- Larch

I did PM tsxclub about this last night -- I guess y'all didn't see it.
I thought y'all would have known for sure what the story is about this. Of course I would have just edited it myself, if that were possible. Indeed the system is set to NOT allow a member to edit a post (or delete it) after 30 minutes, and I assumed you did this on purpose. IMO there's no need to have such a limit.
As I mentioned in the PM, in general I prefer not to have the PM function enabled, but I temporarily have it on because of this.
If you don't find my PM, please let me know on here.
Thanks!
P.S. This post here is a good example of one that it would be good for the member to be able to delete later on (once the situation is taken care of).

As the political season heats up, I'll definitely cruise on by. And maybe I'll talk a little about cars too ;)
And thanks... I'm flattered. I've always wondered how many ppl over there get my brand of humor - it loses a lot in the cyberspace transition, methinks.
And I'll never call myself 'Jason' again, since it obviously creates problems  :D
And I just wanted to start another sentence with 'And...'
And i'm done.

And hello again JCG!
I like starting sentences with "And" too. :D

Hey, SSM!!!!
I think I remember that you were on that late-night chat way back in July, on the night of the "Club TSX massacre"?
Ah, the memories..... :D

geez, first clubtsx, then a-tsx. its like a soap opera! can't we all just get along??
bbbbb5
anyway, figured i'd swing by here and say hi. the a-tsx forums are CRAWLING today. they've been down more than they have been up, and when they are up its damn near impossible to get a post done before the site goes down again.

Hey Larch.
So this is where you've been camping out. Good to see you.
Sorry to hear what happened back there but maybe it's better this way. Just weird not seeing your posts back there. (Kinda like the peanut butter without the jelly).
Just stopping by and saying hello.
(Mumbles to self. . . "Great, now I gotta check 2 forums to get all my TSX info"). :D

Great to see you here, prolix! And no, unfortunately we can't "ALL" get along. But "almost" all of us can get along great.
I thought it was just that the other site is getting a little dead -- and in fact the activity there has decreased a lot in general over the past couple of weeks. And yes indeed, today it has been virtually at a standstill.
I was almost tempted to do a graph of "our posts" vs. "their posts" for tonight. But no need to rub it in.

Hey, Whatcham!!!! Yessssssssss!
I remember that you came to the other place not too long ago and immediately I was very impressed with your posts -- as you know I quoted and referred to your posts many times. Great to see you here, hope indeed you can visit a lot.
It feels weird for me too, not being there. But it is better this way, certainly for me at least -- I just couldn't take it any more over there. Very unfortunate, because there are A LOT of great members there. As I've said, I'm not trying to get anyone to desert from there to here, but I do hope a lot of their members will come here too.
BTW I usually think of myself more as the peanut butter. :D

Larch...Sup dude? Nevermind. This is the first TSX site I joined way back in the day. I mostly lurk here now, my last post was regarding the old, old site that shall remain nameless. Nobody knew what I was talking about so I quit posting. I can't help but think that your degrading this site a little by talking about the old one. Personally, if this is where your gonna call home, you might wanna drop the yappin about the other site. I'll agree Soopa can be a prick, but it's a car site, same as this one. In a nutshell, leave the politics to the politicians. I understand everyone has an opinion on everything, but quit beatin a dead horse. Your posts have always been entertaining, but sometimes you can piss off the pope. I've never had a problem, but I understand that some people could. To make a long story even longer...Lighten up dude. I doubt the bulk of the people here even know what what your talking about. Anyway, good to see you've found a new post whoring place.

Some variation of this is probably what's going to be on my tombstone.

The people who come on these threads (for the most part) do know, because they're mostly people from over there WHO WANT TO KNOW about what happened. And they sure as hell ain't finding out over there.
BTW great to see you, Swami.

Great to see you2, bheywow. Hope to see you around here.
The main thing I remember about bheywow is how great he is at letting a site have it when it deserves it. :D
I really LMAO'd (is that a verb?) at some of what he did a while back on the "old old" site.

Yes indeed. But meanwhile I'm also seeing how many new people are coming here because of how the discussion on this site has gotten, uh, "expanded."

Larchmont:
No wonder that other place seems dead. I just found that you no longer post there.
And the traffic in this place seems to have increased exponentially. I am willing to bet that 69 replies to a post (the current count) has set a record for this site. I used to rarely visit this site because of the slow traffic (but you better believe I will be coming here more often).
How is your TSX running?
I am planning to get the TSX later this year and look forward to reading your posts.
Oh yeah. I almost forgot. Feel free to post more frequently in the "General TSX Topics" section of this forum. :jump:

Hi larchmont,
I tried to check a-tsx today, and it was down so I cruised over here to see what was happening in TSX Land. Anyway, I just wanted to voice my support for you. I think opposing party is making a mistake in playing these silly games. I've been a member of at least a dozen auto forums over the past few years, and the ones that eventually implode are the ones with one or two power-tripping moderators. I despise "Mod Forums," and I really appreciate that the moderators here can discuss issues in the open (see above). Have a nice day everyone!

GREAT to see you here, oo7!!!!!
:jump:
Thanks for your nice support. I never expected that "they" would implode or explode, but I see that something or other happened today. Fortunately just about everybody knows I'm cyber-ignorant so I don't think anybody's suspecting me :D . I noticed there's a post from someone calling himself a "Web Person," saying that "it's Soopa's fault" and they're working on correcting it. I couldn't tell if that was meant as a joke or whether it was serious. But obviously nothing would surprise me. As you know, I was never impressed with the owner's dependability or responsibility.
It's sad, but no matter. The world will go on. And we've got good things happening over here.
