Background for those of you who didn't know what was going on: My car has stalled out on me several times, 3 times while at idle, twice while moving... the Engine simply shut off, and then if I shifted into neutral and turned the key It would start right back up no problem, For the past 2 weeks My Car has been going back and forth to Acura, they were unable to find the problem... There were no trouble codes, nothing, so after several theories... Bad Gas... Bad Gas Filter... Ignition etc... they think they finally got it tonight...

Turns out the Screw that grounds the Negative battery cable was loose, just enough so that idling or driving could occasionally break the circuit and cause the car to "stall" It sounds a we sketchy still, but Definitely plausible, so as of right now the car runs fine, drove it around for about 20 minutes, no problems... I'll keep everyone up to date if It happens again, but as of now this sounds pretty good to me... Its nice to have my car back...

Also btw... they had regreased my sway bar for me, since they said it was squeeking, After I got it back (I brought it back because it stalled yet again), It had been popping, so I had told them the Endlinks were loose, they ended up rigging something using electrical tape and a few washers, and made a "Filler" as my diagnosis sheet says... no popping what so-ever, and I tested it by going dukes style down a dirt road... so this is another fix

the ground sounds very plausible. my first two cars were crxs. both with jdm engines. when the first one was done it would pass emissions. i tried everything then had honda look it over. found out the ground wire from the valve cover to frame was removed and messed with emissions, blew perfect zeros (very odd).

second crx had a starting problem. turned out the same ground connection was coming loose. so a battery ground sounds like its a possibility.

Glad you got everything fixed. LOL @ the techs who spend hours trying to find out the problem but it turned out to be a loose ground bolt on the battery terminal

My car did the same thing to me. I was driving from orlando to philly and we were headed through downtown orlando, in the middle lane of the 3 lane highway. All of a sudden my car shuts off. The engine stops, all the lights go out, navi screen goes blank. My steering and brakes go almost locked. so i turn the key into the on position and gain the lights back somehow, throw on the flashers and drift from the middle lane to the shoulder of the highway. Thank god nothing was abandond or parked or we'd be done. I was doing around 75mph when all of this happend. After the car stopped, i had to fight with it to stay in control, we got out and check some stuff. Nothing at all looked wrong. we went to a gas station and looked over the engine and battery, nothing. This post really helps because i think i've had the same problem. i wonder how many other poeple this happend to.

Hmmm, mine stalled on me several times today. I don't think it's the battery connector because it gave me trouble twice in traffic that was crawling:

First on the NJT, stuck in traffic for 20 minutes behind an accident after driving for about 40 minutes at high speeds. Whilst in traffic I noticed the air conditioner briefly cut out (musty smell), then when we were pulling away from the accident (speeding up) it was reluctant to shift out of first and did so with a thump.

Second was at the Rutgers campus stuck in traffic that was advancing to the game at about 5mph for 30 minutes or so. This was more concerning - out of nowhere it stalls after I lift my foot off the brake. I shift to neutral and try to restart, didn't work the 1st time, then worked the 2nd time. This happened about 4 times, including in an intersection. We turned the AC off to decrease the engine load and it didn't seem to matter. I park the car, go to the game, come back 4 hours later and it started fine - no problems driving the 60 miles home (we kept the AC off just in case).

Any thoughts? I'm calling the dealer tomorrow, but with 48200 miles on it all I can think about is getting this fixed before the warranty expires, or trading it in. Doh!

Oh, and RU 33, Illinois 0. :woot: Go Knights!

No help? Well, the dealer wasn't any help either - they have no idea. They are keeping it overnight so the service dude can drive it home and back, hoping that his long distance will be enough to make it act up but I'm not optimistic. It may be the end of my TSX's tenure in my driveway if they can't find and fix the problem :sadwavey:

While I do recognize that nobody is replying to this thread, I'm going to keep adding to it in the perhaps-vain hope that a knowledgeable and/or sympathetic individual contributes to it...

So Acura was no help - they were unable to illicit the problem in the two days they had it. Now I'm driving my wife's Passat to work and she's driving the TSX, since I may be shot if I break down where I drive whereas she'd just be stuck 5 miles from where we live (with a nearby dealer). Anyway, we were out for a bit tonight and I was finally able to reproduce the unwillingness to downshift - twice. I figured I'd give it some gas to see if I could get it to act up and while I was going abou 30-35 mph accelerating on the highway, I pushed the pedal down to force it to downshift and it didn't. Twice. Both times the engine revved, but the car slowed and wouldn't shift. When I backed off the gas a bit, it shifted and was fine.

So I'm thinking this has got to be the transmission - right??!? That or some electronic control thingermabob related to the drivetrain :donno:

Incidentally, we were driving back from a Subaru dealership having just test driven a Legacy GT Limited. It was definitely not as refined as our TSX (or Passat), but it is FAST! My Acura has definitely spoiled me though - we'll see. If the TSX is diagnosed and repaired, I'll probably keep it for a while. If not, its time with me is ending.

Thanks for the empathy  Has your TSX been fine since they found the problem?? I agree that they sound different.

Its been running great... personally if I were you, Id walk into acura say that I spent 30,000$ on a car from you guys... it doesnt work, the car stalls while moving, its not safe, and I wont take it back until its fixed, or else you'll have some bigger problems...

Yeah, we'll see this time. I came in furious and barking last time... then was distracted by the RDX so it was an empty threat :tardsmash "Take care of me and my car, or I probably won't even pay close to MSRP for this overpriced 4-banger!" :rotz:
