sorry this is a "newb" type question, but what exactly does a flywheel do? And how is the aftermarket flywheel better?
thanks.

I didn't know either, so I checked it out a bit.
And here's a couple of links that seem to tell us what we want to know.
This one tells the basics about flywheels:
http://www.upei.ca/~physics/p261/projects/flywheel1/flywheel1.htm
Here's what seems to be the basic thing from that link:
"A flywheel, in essence is a mechanical battery - simply a mass rotating about an axis. Flywheels store energy mechanically in the form of kinetic energy. They take an electrical input to accelerate the rotor up to speed by using the built-in motor, and return the electrical energy by using this same motor as a generator."
And this other link tells what's (supposedly) better about Fidanza flywheels:
http://www.aluminumflywheels.com/flywheels.html
Seems like the basic thing is lighter weight, although other things are involved. And other sites about flywheels sometimes also talk about "improved magnetic fields."
BTW -- enjoyed getting this stuff together.

What kind of difference did it seem to make?

much better response from the engine, car became much faster overall. It took sometime to get used to rpms dropping so fast but after a while it was just perfect.

Thanks tsxclub!
A couple more questions:
Would you say it applies to both AT and MT?
And how much expense and work is involved?
e.g. cost of the flywheel, cost of the installation, how long it takes
Also, do you think it's a kind of thing where we'd have any worry about anything else being affected (i.e. screwed up) as a result of this being done?

Most will charge $250+ for installation. Flywheel will be $250-400
It wont screw anything up might even make your tranny + engine last longer.

Great answers, tsxclub -- thanks!
I think if I had the 6MT I'd do it for sure.

Is a group buy for this, maybe if they carry the part, you can all piggy back on that.

Well, I personally think it's great that you do a lot of other stuff.
Not good to be too wrapped up in a site.
(Look who's talking.....) :D

Dude, you gotta be kidding me. You do this on all the TSX sites. If you set up a group buy, you should have all the info together. You say you have a group buy, but you have everyone else call for you. How about you call them, get all the numbers and info and then come back and post for those willing/ wanting to buy!

Sounds like a darn good point to me.
And last thing you wanna do is argue with George Washington. :D
Spoke with Fidanza again, They need a stock flywheel or someone who is willing to do it give them a call if you want them to use your car.

That's right. That guy is totally out of touch.
He's not very good at this group-buy thing. But maybe he wants to run for president. :D
Anyone want to do this? I am waiting till clutch goes bad before I take out the tranny. If anyone wants to be the first to own a light weight Fidanza flywheel for the TSX pm me. They can start work on it all we will need is 10 people to join the group so they make a run.
