I am going to tackle claying my car on monday or tuesday and want to be completly sure I understand the whole process.

1.) first wash the car and dry it off completly.
2.) then use a quick detailer and small pieces of a clay bar, spray a small area and go over it with the clay bar. then wipe dry when done.

this is where I'm a little ?

do I rewash the car again or just go right to the NXT wax. and I am considering using a carnuaba wax overtop of the NXT for added protection and "wet look shine"

anyone that has clayed their car please help with response and any information on the waxing part of NXT and then carnuaba would be appreciated as well.

thanks everyone.

I'm not expert here but this is what I've done and what I've heard.
1. Wash ya car w/ Dish Washing Liquid to get rid of all previous polish/wax build. And yes, after I did this, I see the clear coat or some yellow stuff peeling off the paint.
2. Clay w/ lube. They suggest to clay w/ Quick detailer. But from what I heard you can use some car soap to do it. Using a quick detailer to clay is quite expensive. And takes about 3 hrs to clay the whole car.
3. Wash the car w/ regular car soap. Polish and Wax.

Ive used both the Quick Detailer route, as well as the Car wash/water mix... the quick detailer works much better, so id reccomend just going to Pepboys and picking up a cheap detailer, rather then using your good stuff... Rewashing is not nessacary, however if your using wash like Zaino, Goits, NXT, Klasse, ect... those have a slight coat of wax on them, and are great right after Claying

1) Wash your car with car shampoo.
2) While it is still wet, clay it using quick detailer or a clean solution of car shampoo and water.
3) Rinse it off.
4) Dry your car.
5) Light swirl remove and then wax.

^^Agreed^^

Did the same steps on my car and it came out perfect. The whole process will take about 2 hours, from washing to claying to waxing. I bought the Mother's California Gold Clay Bar kit, which comes with a large bottle of instant detailer, way more than enough to clay the whole car. Meguiars has a similar kit, both of with are under $20.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DROP THE CLAY BAR!!! Even a small pebble in the clay bar will scratch the hell out of your paint! (No worries as long as you don't drop it though.) Have fun! :)

thanks everyone this is exactly what I was looking for, as for dropping the clay bar, I think I will take some advice from some previous forums and cut the bar into several smaller pieces that way if I do happen to drop it and can just throw that one out and get another without having to spend another 20bucks

That's the way. And store the unused pieces in individual ziploc bags that have been wetted with quick detailer spray.
