So I'm driving home from work Wednesday in the TSX. I'm pulling away from a light and hear some rod knock from the beater next to me. I think to myself that the engine on that p.o.s isn't long for this world. Anyway pulling away from another light I hear it again.....which is weird since I saw the car pull away. I look around and there's not any other cars around.

F***

Sure enough it's me. At this point I'm in denial. It's not me it can't be the cars just barely past 30k. I get home too late to call Acura so I call them Thursday morning and get it dropped of Friday morning. ( My fiancé works a mile away)

They call me this afternoon and sure enough it was rod knock. They aren't sure what all is wrong or what happened but a new short block is on order.

It sucks but thankfully it's still under warranty.

that does suck, but it sounds like you're getting a new engine for free. Feel like going through a break-in period again? :)

I thought the Japanese cars were supposed to be reliable! I have 175k on my Explorer and no knock ;)

Hopefully they cover ALL of it under warranty for you.

my neighbor/friend has a 97 Explorer XLT V8 w/ 457k miles on it, and it still runs like a charm!

I still think the 95-01 Explorers look the best.

Well I know someone with an accord with 234k with no problems so there.
:P
Yep it's all covered

That's for sure.

They planned to have it done today but the shortblock didn't come in today. It should come in tomorrow and they'll have it done at the end of the day. I asked him if they'll take it apart and look into what happened at all or just send it back. They're just sending it back to Honda so we'll never know what happened. Oh well.

Too bad they couldn't stick the new RDX engine in there. While you'd end up probably replacing the trans., it'd be fun for a little while!

sorry to hear about your engine Tony. Glad to hear your being very well taken care of though with the warranty.

your right though it would have been nice to know what happened.

best of luck with the new engine and the new break in period.

all car makers make cars that last. I know people with american cars that have outlasted japanese and vice versa.

also a lot depends on the owner. some take their cars to shit in 50k miles.

in the end, domestics don't have the track record japanese cars do for logetivity, however treated right, any newer car should do 150k miles without major issues.

for god sakes, if I wanted to just get a commuter without caring what it was, ide get a kia rio. under $10k brand new with air conditioning, and 100k mile warranty. although i'll probably never buy a kia, its a good warranty.

Yeah KIA and HYUNDAI or how ever you spell it.

although I'm really starting to like the Hyundai's, they seem to be following the Honda cars.

GM just started that 100k powertrain warranty for all '07's.

Which is causing a lot of headaches for a Pontiac dealer that I have as a client. Yesterday alone they received 27 irate phone calls from folks who had purchased 2006 models in the last two weeks or so.

But like Zeeshan said, any car should be able to get you upwards of 150k miles.
