View Full Version : Navi owners - How do I get the auto mode to work?

I am having problems getting my navigation unit to turn into night mode automatically.

The manual says that it is activated when the headlights are turned on.

With my navi set as auto and if i flip on/off the lights it doesn't do anything.

I have to go in and turn it to night or dim it.

You may also have the brightness on your dashboard turned all the way up, in this case when it goes to night mode (by turning on the lights), the screen will be in "day" mode...

okay.. i noticed that my dash would also not dim..

So basically set nav and dash how i would like for the day... and then turn on the lights and setup both again?

If you want night mode for the majority of the time, then just set it to night mode! Regardless if you turn on or off your headlights it would still be darker! And adjust your dimmer on your navi. You can make it bright or darker by adjusting the brightness!

Btw, for the color background, I use the color GREY! That may play a part in the overall darkness!

Yeah.. I def like it as bright as possible during the day.. most wortless feature i read about. If you hold the toggle in for 10 seconds it will switch to night/day.

1. It is hard to hold the toggle still for 10 seconds without moving around the map.
2. You can change it in the setup in 2 seconds.

I think ducktsx is kinda confused with the setting. The setup in the navi is independent of day/night mode. if you want it to auto change to night mode when lights on, then you need to set the dashboard brightness know 1 notch down from max. after that, if you still feel your navi not bright enough, THEN you change the Screen brightness at the navi setup screen.

i didnt like the black/blue night mode, so i left mine tan "day" colored. wayyy easier to see that way imo. just set it to dim the screen a bit when the headlights are on and it wont blind you, and the tan background is much easier to see.

Okay.. So I haven't really had time top mess with it at all, but last night I was trying to get it to work and any combination (with the Navigation unit on "Auto")

Of turning off/ on the lights and dimming the dash. Doesn't do anything. It's bright.

Answers are in this post.

1) look at speedometer. (The thing in front of you with all those numbers).

2) in that dash, there should be a little stick thingie, right by the gas guage near the "E" (where my red circle is in the picture)

3) Turn that so that you feel this 'click' then stop turning.

4) now set the navi on auto.

5) turn on and off headlights to see if it goes into day and night mode.

If you have an '06 there will not be a click on that knob. Rather, when you turn that knob you'll see a brightness indicator in the MID (the center display in the gauge cluster.)

That brightness indicator has two modes: with headlights on, and with headlights off. If you have the brightness indicator set to "max" in headlights on mode, then the NAVI display will stay at the "day" or brightest setting.

Try this: turn your headlights on, then adjust the brightness down less than max. If your NAVI brightness is set to "auto" it will go to night mode. However, if you have the NAVI brightness night mode set to max it will still be bright and you'll have to turn it down.

This is all explained pretty clearly in the quick ref card. The complexity is the price of flexibility! :)

And I didn't know that we had a lil nubbin by the gauge to adjust...I never knew that! Thanks! But I still don't think it's necessary to use especially since you can adjust the settings just by the screen alone! Just lower the brightness from your navi controls. I didn't realize how hard that was! haha I think I'm getting even more confused with this!*shrugs*

The little nubbin on the gauge cluster adjusts a different brightness than the brightness adjustment on the touchscreen. The touchscreen brightness is only the brightness of the screen - the nubbin on the gauge cluster adjusts the brightness of the gauges and illuminated switches in the car - and then on top of that, each of those brightness adjusters has two modes depending on whether the headlights are on or not!

EXACTLY! I don't think the nubbin' on the gauge affects the brightness in the nav screen!

Btw, I think I need to move this thread to Problems/Fixes thread :)

It's a very stupid design..I wonder how many inquireis acura got on why the navi is always in day mode?

^^^^ It's not always on 'day' mode unless you choose that option! :p If I use 'night' mode, it'll be on 'night' mode during the day and night. It's just a matter of choosing that option on your screen.

D'oh!!! Glad I found this thread.

I've been driving around wondering how to get the auto setting to work as well. It turns out that I had the gauge cluster set to "max" with the headlights on. :smash: I had forgotten that I had set the gauge cluster that bright the day I bought my car.
