View Full Version : Gas = fixed my idle problems?

We bought a new 2006 TSX. It only has 300 miles now, but we notice that sometimes the steering wheel vibrates a lot when the car stops at red light. Also, it vibrates a lot when we back the car out of the parking lot.
It seems that the car has this kind of vibration when the car is stopped with the gear on either D or R. Sometimes (maybe 60%) the car is fine, show no vibration (or just a little), sometimes, the car shows lots of vibration (and behaves like my 10-year old subaru). What is going on?
May I ask if your TSX has this kind of vibration? Is this normal? I feel very dissappointed. I don't think I see any vibration driving a new Accord. Should we bring it back to dealer for inspection? what could be wrong?
Thank you very much for your help.

Take it back to the dealer. It's probably a broken motor mount.

I would say normal. There is another thread in the fourm with the same topic. Try looking around. Seems normal. lots of people have that same problem. Includeing my TSX. I either got used to it, or after it broke in i cant tell anymore.

When I test drove an 06 5AT I found that it had noticably more vibration @ Idle than the 04/05. It's normal. It has to do with the adjustments they made to the K24A2 to draw 10 more HP.

i think it was only 5 more hp but it needed a 200rpm increase to reach it.

It's 5 because of the new SAE rating.... on a dyno it produced 10 more hp. If we used the old rating the 04/05 TSX would have 200hp and the 06 would have 210.

Okay, like almost every owner of a 06 TSX on this board, complains about their car vibrating/shaking while idling or having the AC on.
I have the same problem.
So, I normally put in the middle gas, because premium is expensive and regular drives like shit. I was feeling sporty today since gas went down like .60, and filled my tank with premium ($42.87 total) and I only had 4 miles left to the tank, lol.
So I had to do a few things today and..of course I take the long ways because I love to drive. Absolutely NO shudders/vibrations while the car was idle. And normally theres the typical engine noise and you hear it revving while accelerating..but ..there wasnt any :O. It just felt powerful, as if I was driving my aunts BMW. i can't explain that sound, but it's awesome. I love it <3.
Now, could this be because of the change of gas? Because in that case..no matter how broke I am..i'll put in premium from now on.

The car takes premium...just use it and ull be happy in the long run as the engine is in optimal performance with premium fuel.

If you can't afford to pay for the gas, maybe you shouldn't own the car. Read the instructions! You're not smarter than the engineers who designed the engine who decided it needed premium.

I think the manual states if you have a rough idle it is because of low octane gas, poor fuel quality, or some type of additive/detergent in the fuel. Acura's suggestion is to use the right octane and/or change gas stations.
Change to 91 octane and use Mobil 1 oil and you will save money after one year with the increased performance and mpgs. You are really wasting money in the long run if you did the mpg math.

i just takes it where i finds it. when im running low, i tell the navi to "find the closest gas station" then fill 'er up.
ALWAYS PREMIUM!

I always use 91 octane gas and have a vibration problem since I left the lot last month. I also have a vibration/shudder when the car decelerates between 12 to 10 mph. The dealer told me to break it in. 1500 miles later and it still does it. Does anyone have this other shudder? I have driven other tsx's at dealer and loaners. Some have it, other's do not. They are trying to figure it out, but they say that it is a quirck of the car. If the car that I test drove did this, I would not have bought one. I use Chevron or Amoco 91. Does anyone have better results with another company?
Thanks

I am wondering if reducing back pressure from the exhaust would resolve this vibration problem that may be due to increased hp?

If you have any doubts, I think you should have it checked just to be sure! I don't think I've had a problem with my '05 AT. Maybe a bit when I break, but that's only if I break hard coming down a hill or what not. It only happens when I put a lot of pressure on the breaks!

no shudders but then again i always use 93 octane

My 05' TSX always have this idle "shudder" whenever I bring the car to a halt shortly after starting her up. But once it's properly warmed up, the idle shudder is almost non-perceptible.
This car has counter-balancing shafts to make it one of the smoothest 4 cylinder engine around. But all 4 bangers suffer from rough idling, in one way or another. it's the inherent nature of the inline 4 cylinder geometry.
Drive a Lexus 6 cylinder engine or the bimmer inline six, they are turbine smooth, idle or at speed.
I would say, don't fret over it. We all wanna think just because it's a Honda, so "EVERYTHING" has to be silky smooth. The TSX engine is a great smooth running engine design, but it is not "PERFECT".
But if you insist on a perfectly smooth idling engine, go for a inline six or even better V8 or V12.

This is true i mostly run Shell V-Power though its a bit more but use Royal Purple Race oil which made a huge difference on my idle.
