Has anyone imported a tsx from the u.s. into canada, I can't believe I am the first.
nobody will touch the xeon headlights to make them daytime running lights, canadian tire wont touch them, acura canada and u.s. both say they dont have anyway to change them, no kit , or even somewhere to go to get it done,
this sucks, please help anyone.

DRL is the highbeam, which is not HID. Unless US model comes with both HID high and low. Other wise try hook up fogs to handbrake, so when you let go the handbrake the fog comes on as DRL. Just an idea. Hope it'll work out.

There is actually a DIY for DRL module on the other site.

Yes, I believe all you need is a relay in order to get the DRLs working - not difficult to do, but it is possible.

so without your drl, you can't get the car insured, even though it's already on canadian soil?
how much did you save? i too thought about this.

Hey, I havent actualy imported the car yet, and the purchase is pending me being able to find a way to get daytime running lights working.
I have bought cars from the states before, saved many thousands. I dont believe in getting riped off by the canadian auto industry that has failed to keep pace with our improved canadian exchange rate. Even with all the fees and taxes you pay from importing from the states, you can atleast a couple thousand, and normaly alot more, my last car (2002 Saab 9-3 I saved 4 thous.)
Ya, without DRL, it wont pass the fed. inspection done at canadian tire, and then cant insure it.
I guess I am the first to import a tsx into canada, although i have trouble believing that, and the useless people at RIV canada couldnt tell me if I was.
Thanks for help everyone, and any tips or ideas as to where I could get DRL installed, please let me know.

Could you not figure a way to turn the fog lights into DRL? Is that not how Audi's work?
If I were you, I would find someone in the U.S. to do it because if you import it and cannot get the DRL's done, after 30 days the R.I.V. will issue you a letter advising that the car will need to be exported. To add insult to injury, according to U.S. Customs law the car will be subject to U.S. Duty of 2.5% upon it's return to the USA as only the original Importer - Acura USA could re-import the car back into the U.S. duty free.

Hey, I appreciate the ideas, I will call registrar of imported vehicles and see what they say about fog lights as daytime running lights, good idea.
I called both acura canada, and acura usa, both usless, sadely.
I guess keep trying, any canadians got an acura TSX for sale for 24000 cnd. after taxes, thats what I would be looking at after all the fees and taxes for importing one.

coworker imported a CPO 04 TL to ontario earlier this year, and he didn't have any trouble installing the DRL's. i'm assuming he had this done at canadian tire.

i have called 3 canadian tires, and exact same responce everytime, because the headlights are the xeon kind, they say they wont touch them because they are expensive if they screw up, and most likely they havent worked on them before, called 2 victoria and 1 vancouver can. tire. (as retarded an excuse as that is)
Damn, I wish I can import a EVO 8 or 9 here...

I do not know where you are getting your numbers from, but this is the way an Imported TSX would be costed.
I am not sure of the 2007 pricing but I have read here that a 2006 w/nav is selling inthe USA for US $ 27,461.00 x Exchange 1.15 = CAD $ 31,580.00
Duty @ 6.1% = 1926.38 , A/C tax = $ 100.00 , RIV Fees = $ 240.00.
For a Total of CAD $ 33,846.38 , to this number you have to add Federal Inspection costs, conversion to DRL, GST 6% plus Provincial TAx
A 2006 TSX could be had in Canada now for around $39,000.00, so yes after factoring transport costs from the USA, there is around CAD $ 5,000.00 to be saved which works out to about 12% savings.
On the surface it is easy to say that we get royally ripped here in Canada, but you still have to consider that the amount of cars sold in Canada are a fraction of those sold in USA, Dealers still have very high overhead here in Canada along with a high tax structure, so in the end I would surmize that we are just getting ripped and not royally ripped.

Well that is a different story, you should be able to pick up a 2004/2005 at the price point mentioned above, I just ended my lease on a 2004 non nav 6 months early and got a 2006. Buy back on my car was $18,500.00, dealer not only took car back early with no penalty but they gave me $ 900.00 credit towards my 2006 which effectively put me in a 2006 at $ 70.00 less per month on a 48 month lease.
You should be able to pick a used TSX for 20 - 22 K here in Canada without having to go to USA for it.

hey, I havent seen many canadian 2004 or 2005 tsx's for 20 -22 k unless they have over a 100,000 kms. However , if you know of somewhere I can look and find one in that price range , please let me know. I would realy like to find a pirvate sale so i can save on the gst.

Problem might be solved, i have heard conflicting stories from can tire and riv canada about what is acceptable, but as long as one works i dont care. fog lights or front - side lights, turn on automaticaly , acceptable as dtr lights.
thanks everyone for suggestions and help, hopefully I will be the proud owner of a tsx soon also.
peace

What will likely drive ya freakin' nutz is the bass-ackwards speedo, where the MpH and KpH are reversed. Or maybe I'm just picky? But that's the reason I abandoned the thought of bringing one up. That and the DRL thingy. Hassle factor outweighed potential savings 4 me.

What's the resell value on US cars in Canada?
Personally i'd never get one.
