the reason we are going to war is to prevent something like 9/11 happen again. the u.s is just trying to keep peace in the world because no one else will stand up for peace and happiness in this world. by attacking a threat like iraq and destroying the terrorism that coexists with that country, we are doing a favor for this world and the people that live in it. i can't stand activists that are against war. they are so simple minded. war is necesary when 6000 or so innocent lives are lost. it isn't vengence, it is to prevent that from happening again. well, maybe a little bit of vengence, but wouldn't you be pissed if someone you knew died from a terrorist act? action speaks louder than words. and another thing, our country should be backing our soldiers instead of criticizing them.:)

protestors aren't criticizing the soldiers, they're criticizing bush's administration insistance on pushing forward with a war with iraq. the war with iraq won't prevent something like 9/11 from happening again; there's no way we'll ever be 100% safe from terrorism as there will always be people who hate the US. there's no link between al quaeda and saddam, in fact, they're enemies too. yes, ppl are still pissed off about 9/11, but the war with iraq has nothing to do with 9/11.
the hopes of the war is that a post-saddam iraq will be less of a threat to its neighbors and will bring some stability to the middle east. this would be a positive thing, but is it worth the estimate $100+ billion cost to the US? is it worth US casualties to invade a country that at this time poses no direct threat to the US? yes, the world would be a better place without saddam in power, but aren't there some domestic issues that could be improved upon with that $100 billion?
i'd support a war if there was enough justification, i just haven't seen enough evidence yet.
btw, let's see if we can keep this discussion from turning into a flame war :)

so you can't justify that nuclear weapons is a direct threat against us or any other country. we won't be the only ones in the process of destruction. why should we wait till something like that happens. war is good if it prevents crap like that. money shouldn't be an issue. peace and the freedom of every person that lives in this world is. money is just a small price to pay for livelihood of every individual. shoot, if money is an issue then why doesn't anybody take money away from pro athletes. they make all this money for playing something they love. some of them are even roll models. so they shouldn't have a problem by helping out this great country.
action speaks louder than words my friend...

i forgot to mention, iraq kills their own people. they mutilate, hang, poison, starve, and corrupt their own people. not just the enemies of the u.s. but the citizens of those and other countries belove that what happened on 9/11 the u.s. deserved it. how can things get any better when things are getting worse. this may seem biased, but i belove that the whole middle east is corrupt and full of destrustive prowess. they deserve a good ass-whupin.
how can people just sit back and let human tragedies happen around the world and protest against a fix. half of those protesters probably don't even know what they are protesting about. they are just "in it for the cause." what a load of crap.
one thing i don't understand though, is how we can do nothing against north korea. they have broken many treaties and continue to stock up on nuclear warheads. they are more of a threat to the u.s. than iraq is.
i was watching a documentary on n.korea and they treat their people like shit. no outside communication, no clean hospitals or water to drink, all that kim jung ill is trying to do is to create his own dictatorship. i say attack now before shit hits the fan.

i think north korea is a much bigger threat. we _think_ iraq has WMD (they prolly have some bio/chem weapons, tho i doubt they have any nukes), but we _know_ north korea does (ones that might be able to hit the US according to the CIA).
and in the worst case, north korea could nuke japan and might damage the plant making the TSX's (just to relate this post with the forum :D ).

i am in the army and having a mass build up of troops is good. it will save time for the u.s. to ship and fly soldiers over. they are already there for the word to attack. it isn't a giveaway. it was inevitable that we were going to war and iraq knew that the u.s. was going to deploy that many soldiers. we just moved first and we moved fast, which is good. and again, money should not be a concern in the case of peace.
i know that when one tyrant is gone another will come in to power. but that is why we have to fight it all the time. peace is not an easy thing to gain.
i agree with you on the third paragraph, that not even peaceful countries are safe(which was the u.s.) after ww2, the u.s. built up it's forces so that never again will they be underpowered.
if other countries want to still live in barbaric times and continuesly hurt their own people and threaten other countries, then they should know that they will be delt with.
as far as n. korea, they need to deal with them real soon.

i think US should stop worrying about others and should spend all that money here helping our citizens who are in need of help instead of spending money towards war.

The art of bringing back an old thread. Is interesting to read all the pro-war rhetoric in light of the present-day situation. Iraq is a modern-day Vietnam. The troops will be retreating under Obama, and the recent shoe incident demonstrates that the USA is not considered a saviour by the Iraqi people...
