yea i spoke with my sponsors and we're planning early next yr to do the Mugen Lip kit along with jdm fogs and maybe either some Volks/Gram Lites then were gonna start buildin out the motor. i plan on goin on boost with this motor knowing how crzy the K-series are on boost but i'll wait till they build low compression internals to drop my compression a little.

I think to be sponsored you just have to ask the company, what would be the point of getting sponsored when your car is already all decked out...If you have doubts of him being sponsored well I was at the shop when he got his nice discount for his JDM conversion.

Benz, I think they're misleading you. A real sponsor doesn't "give discounts" - that's either an undecided, or a cheap sponsor... or just a good promotion.

When you get a real sponsor, it means you get their full support and free parts/services in exchange for some exclusivity or other services that are unique to you or your car.

Benz, I think they're misleading you. A rear sponsor doesn't "give discounts" - that's either an undecided, or a cheap sponsor... or just a good promotion.

When you get a real sponsor, it means you get their full support and free parts/services in exchange for some exclusivity or other services that are unique to you or your car.

I ask a lot of shops, none of them do a REAL sponsor then, even though those cars have their SHop Stickers ALL over their car. From what I know, they either sell the parts to them a little above cost, or at cost, or a little under cost, never FREE. Well, not in canada anyways. I read alot on other forums too, but never do I heard they get free things. They ONLY give the sponsor person free things IF they are sponsored thru the DIRECT company, by which I mean like Rays, Works, ENdless, Tein, Toyo..and such, not shops. I mean, comon, shops don't make that much and they are giving a random guy/friend free parts?? What does the shop achieve? A little advertising throughout the shows?? I highly doubt it, unless that shop's owner is a baller. I asked many shop owners and even they say tehy don't do that!!

SO Crix, I am really interested in the kind of sponsors you are getting...and wow, they actually CALLED you up for sponsorship?? that's crazy. From what you sound like...you are getting FULL sponsor with FREE STUFF??

its not fully free yet i'm close to it. whatever i want from the shop i get it at cost price plus 30% off. it would be 20% b/c the shop clerk makes 10% but off sponsorship they dont so i get 30% off not meaning the shop pays a partial amount for my stuff. after if i either get them additional business OR i gain additional mods they will be free however i have only X amount of dollars i can use. its like a credit line they give me and if i go over then i'll pay.

hmm... truthfully, I didn't ask "many" people, it's more as what I heard from ppl. I never heard anyone say that they had a sponsor, but they had to pay for their parts...
...and I recently got a sponsor and I get it all free, too...

...so I don't know, I guess that term may be broadly used to mean different things then...

Anyway, as long as you get the arrangement you're happy with, that's what counts.

exactly, sponsorship doesn't ALWAYS mean they pay for everything, there are always guidelines or agreements that come across with you and the company. its that simple. if they want to negotiate they will and thats how we came across mines.

lol, yeah, few weeks ago I had someone contact me. Looks like a small company starting up in cali, called GotXenon, Inc. - a very nice guy I deal with. They specialize in BMWs, but went into an Acura merchandise now, and the arrangement is they ship me items for free in exchange for my thorough evaluation and installation instructions (well, they didn't say "thorough" but as everything I write is that way, I wouldn't make it any lesser than thorough). Gotta' say, so far all the items they shipped me were really an excellent quality, far surpassing the stuff you'd get from ebay, even the angel eyes components are better than those from Umnitza. And everything professionally packed. They said they deal with a lot of picky European ppl, so they have to care about the quality factor :)
But I do spend a LOT of my time writing proper documentation, so in a way, I earn it that way. So true there are a lot of different sponsoring arrangements. It all depends on what the sponsor is willing to do for what he needs.
If you really want it, why don't you drive around different shops and ask them if they wouldn't want to sponsor you? It doesn't hurt to ask... ;)

Well, I actually know most of the boss/owners of the tuning shops around here, or their workers. As far as I know, none of them do full sponsorships, even their workers have to pay for their own parts. Maybe, canadians just roll in a different way...

I kind of want to go down to the states, for car reasons!! hahaha, so many used parts/wheels/deals from shops and forums are all from the States. Man, so many parts and Volks rims are from So.Cal. I really wanna go down and live there!! Hot chicks + hot cars + cheap parts = FTW!!! And I hear so many sponsorships going on it's amazing....and plus, cars are cheaper down there!! I do want to...but, family, school...sigh~
