Well I crashed my 6 month old baby, today on my day off. The body shop is estimating 8-10k in damages, it sounds a little high to me. The body shop(which happen to be on the acura lot) tech told me I broke some beam, and blah blah blah. He said at its current state its around 6K but once they open her up, the damage is likely to go up to 10K. I’ll post more tomorrow when I get the formal written report.

I was in the median making a left turn, there was a very large SUV waiting to merge in to traffic. The previously mention SUV was blocking my view of on coming traffic, not to mention they, were in the median incorrectly, not allowing me to pull around to their drivers side. So I was on their passenger (incorrect side) and pulled out and BOOM my car said hello to a lovely 07 Nissan VERSA that he just purchased 1 week ago. Not much damage on his car, just his wheel looked like was about to fall off. Mine on the other hand; well you can see the pictures. We both received tickets, me for failure to yield, and him for speeding. I went to the hospital for neck and back pain, but the meds are keeping me fine.

Did the airbag came out? If there's NO engine damage, I don't think it cost over 8K.
O... maybe it's on the Acura lot, so the mechanic put his hourly wage on top of it too, so it's like... parts... $4000USD. wage... $150/hr (in toronto) X 30 = $4500. Together 8K. lol

No airbags came out, and thank god no engine damage. Should I settle for an aftermarket A/C condenser? They said on is avail, but for the Acura one I would have to wait, and it would cost more. I mean come on the car is only 6months old.

So you think after she is fixed, I should trade her in? I was thinking the same thing, a car is never the same after an accident.I'm not going to want this car after its repaired, I guess I trade it in.

Ouch, that sucks man! I'd definitely get it fixed, and try to trade it in if possible. I guess a lot will depend on where you get it repaired, but I think I, personally, would try to get a new one. Either way, best of luck man.

Sorry to hear that... :(
Hopefully your pains will soon go away.
And don't settle for any aftermarket parts. Go with all new and OEM.

Depends what body shop's quality work is, but if they do it well, it'll be as good as new, so I wouldn't waste money on trading it. Just make sure you get a very respectable body shop to do the work.

The body shop is right in the Acura dealership, they are very respectable. The body shop says StateFarm will have to approve the OEM compressor. The lady at the body shop says StateFarm is the best company to deal with on getting factory parts for everything except about 5 parts, which StateFarm see as if I had to replace it outside of the accident, I would probably opt for the aftermarket one. Everything else being replaced is OEM. StateFarm has been great, hopefully they won’t cancel me or jack my rates up, this is my first accident, never filed a claim in the 14years I’ve been with them.

Ask if there was any frame damage. From the pics, I doubt it.

Yes, always go with OEM replacement parts, especially the car is so new. Insurance will cover it as long as they are not aftermarket added on accessories.

Body shop called, my car should be ready on Friday, or at the latest Tuesday, all OEM parts. Talked to the Acura sales manager at my dealership, he’s willing to give me invoice(because of some major service issues) on any new 2007(except the MDX) I want. I may spring for the RDX what do you think? If I do that then I’ll have to sell my X5 once I get it moved back here from Cali.

Got my car back today, and I am not happy. It will have to go back for additional repair.
1. Paint job was not done well
2. The hood is not flush with the side
3. Large gap between the grill and where the hood meets only on 1 side
4. Bumper and right fender are not flush
The list goes on…….

I've said it on several other threads, but I guess I didn't say it on yours. Dealers are only good for when they give you free staff, but I would not trust with leaving my car with them. ESPECIALLY a dealer with a body shop.

I don't know where you got your info on their quality of work, but now you got a first-hand proof of the "respectable" dealer's work.

Never, choose a dealer to do any body work. Always go to a REAL body shop, whose work you've actually seen on other cars.

Its strange because I've used them in the past and they did a great job, guess I was luck then and it was not a major repair.

^^^ Yeah, dealer's jack you for your $$$$! You should go to a respectable body shop! At least they won't charge you too much and they usually do a decent job! Dealer's charge you a lot because they can, therefore they don't care how crappy their work is! They know they can make $$$$ off you regardless since it's a DEALERSHIP!

I agree. A few years back we brought our new volvo (someone backed into it in a parking lot causing alot of damage-they left the scene) The dealership where we bought the car had a body shop. What a lousy job they did. When our civic was hit we found another body shop-WOW- when they were done you would never know it was in an accident.
