Well, after almost 70,000 miles, I've finally encountered my first bothersome issue. The driver's door lock is not operating properly. When you push the power lock button on the door or on the remote, it does not lock or unlock the driver's door. I'm thinking it's the lock motor. Anyone have any experience with changing this out?

seems like you're on the right track.

Spoke with my dealer this afternoon. It's definitely the door lock actuator. Only $26 including a new screw (apparently, they're prone to strip when removing). Was pretty happy that it's so inexpensive. I'll let you all know how hard it is to change out.

Funny, I'm at 80,000 miles with the same exact problem. The dealer said it would be $270ish for them to change it...mostly all labor costs of course. I'm planning on changing it myself when it gets a bit warmer out hehe.

Let me know how tough it is :)

Your dealership is ripping you off! I tried to change it myself over the weekend but it's just too damned tight in there! The part was $26. I just made an appointment today at my dealership to have it done. Was quoted $85 in labor......~$270 seems a bit ridiculous.

Same thing happened to mine at 40,000. But it works when it wants to. I've noticed that it works better in the cold weather and worse in the warm weather.

Same problem hit me at 74,000 miles. I will call the dealer about pricing on the door lock actuator.

Also while I am at it, the light on the driver side heated seat button went out. Now when I turn it on, the orange light goes on, however it's just the backlighting at night that went out. I was thinking that the whole console may have to be ripped out to replace a bulb, but not sure if this is necessary or not. Let me know if you have any experience with this.

If this is happening to a lot of people, I wonder if we can get a TSB for this. I'm sure some people are out of warranty - and could get the dealer to pay for this fix.

Fixed mine for 18 bucka in about a half hour. Make sure you use a impact screw driver to take out the screws.

What's the story on the impact screwdriver ??

What's the story on the impact screwdriver ??

If you use a standard screw driver you will strip the screws so you need a impact screw driver.

Just happend with my 04'. Brought it back because the horn wasn't sounding when I locked the doors. Come to find out, all but the driver's door was locking. Luckily for me, it is covered under extended warranty. This happened at 54K.

well, just two days ago i found out the passenger side doesnt work, but today i find out that the trunk lock doesn't work either, at least the button release thing. the release hatch by the gas lid release & the button on the key fob works, but not when u would unlock it and go and press the button to open it. would that be the actuator too?

that's interesting, cause I had a similar problem few weeks ago. I narrowed it down to the fuse box or output wire from the fuse box. Because I checked all wiring, and when pressed the trunk release pad, the signal was getting to the fusebox. I didn't have time to check the output wire because that would mean I would have to take few panels off to get to another side of the fusebox and just didn't have time for it them. Since I had tapped my remote trunk into that output wire, I've figured that connection must've somehow weakened the wire, because my remote trunk pop was working, but not the trunk release pad. Miraculously, few days later the release pad started to work on its own, and it's been working fine ever since... go figure

Its prob due to the dor lock going bad cause I had the same problem once I replaced the lock it was fine.

mines been doing it for about 7K miles now, got 72K on the ODO, so since about 65K...

it worked for about 3 days in the last 7K regularly.. i attributed it to it being the hot girl that was present each time... cause after she went back to GA, it started acting up again.... grrrrr

so looks like im off to buy an motor... got door apart outside as i type, but looks like its going to be about two weeks before ill have time to fix it. should be long enuf for parts.

Ill try and take some detailed pics and maybe do a write up. but this is very common it seems, where the TSB when ya need it

OMFG....just happened to my 2004 at 33,000 miles. kinda glad to see it wasn't only me, but kinda angry that i gotta get it fixed now. another thing that bothers me is that im able to manually lock the driver's side door while it is open. this means that i could potentially lock my keys in the car on accident.

I'm not sure if my door lock actuator is going out...but it seems like my drivers door lock needs to pause and "charge" for a few seconds in between locking and unlocking. If I press lock and then unlock instantly...all doors except for the drivers door will unlock (the drivers door tries to unlock, but seems like it does not have enough power to fully unlock). If I press lock, wait 6 seconds or longer, then press unlock, everything unlocks fine.

Would this be the door lock actuator? It started happening right after installing a auto-lock module, but I unhooked the module fully and it is still doing it. I asked kpiersontec at kptechnologies and he said that their module does not drive the door lock actuators directly.

Would you happen to still have the picture when you did the install? Did you order it from your local Acura?

Thanks,

No I have no pics but if you have the tools and know what your doing it takes about 20 mins to install. Make sure you have an impact screw driver. if not your not going to be able to get the screws lose.

Thanks. Found a DIY on it for an RSX. I've always hated taking apart door panels, and I especially hate the white goo used on the plastic shield.

Just to make sure I've got the right part:
Part#: 72155-SDA-A01
Illustration#: 19
http://www.sonsacuraparts.com/sons/jsp/prddisplay.jsp?catcgry1=TSX&catcgry2=2005&catcgry3=4DR+TSX&catcgry4=KA5AT&catcgry5=FRONT+DOOR+LOCKS-OUTER+HANDLE&ListAll=All&vinsrch=no&prdrefno=&quantity=0&act=&count=1&hidSwitch=&hidIrno=

Is that the correct item?

Thanks again,
Anthony

Ok just finished the install. It was indeed the actuator that went bad.

The above part# is correct.

Overall, the install was pretty straight forward. The only bad thing that happened was that I broke off two clip mounts on the door panel.

I ran into this problem around 34k, and I just got it fixed last week under warranty. As well as a recall update for my HIDs, and trunk wiring.

Any more info on this??

My passanger side stopped working, any DIY walkthru's or scans from the service manual somebody could provide to see how to get the door panel off?

My passenger side did the same around 91ish, would have fixed it myself, but i hate door panels, almost as much as drum brakes.... 100 @ honda dealer, saved 15 bucks vs. acura part number.

Check the DYI/FAQ Menu. I'm pretty sure there's one there. I think I remember adding it there somewhere recently.

Dear Acura,
I love my '04 TSX with 52k miles, but - why in the **** isnt this a recall??? (or is it?)

i, like most people here, have the same problem:
Driver's side lock does not work with remote. Therefore, everytime i wanna lock the car, i manually have to press the lock down; and everytime i want to unlock it (from the outside) i have to use the key. The remote keyless entry ONLY works to unlock the other three doors, and ONLY when the driver's side door is already unlocked.
ANNOYING AS HELL.
Im paying my local Acura dealer a visit next week to get a quote, and will let you all know what they say.

That sucks no problem here got an 08 with like 11000 miles. Keep us updated with what the dealers excuse for this problem.

Clearly the driver's side door lock actuator is bad. The rest behaves normal, because when you press the unlock button the first time, only the driver's door unlocks, and to open the rest of the doors, you have to press the unlock the 2nd time. That's pretty much standard behavior from OEM remote locking/unlocking equipment nowadays. So once they replace your actuator, it'll be back to normal.

I have an 05 TSX and much like you the only problem I have experienced was the drivers power door lock actuator. Fortunately I was still under warranty. I did bookmark some instructions in TSXclubforum and have included the URL below.

As per the manual, the power door lock switch is what needs to be replaced?

Addding myself to this list as my driver side front door actuator is out.
Called a few Acura dealerships around where I live and they wanted to charge me anywhere between $250 - $320 parts/labor to have it fixed. Ouch!
