View Full Version : Extreme vibration at 60-65mph(not a tire-balance issue)

It's snowed like crazy where I live and all the snow turned into big chunks of ice as a result of extremely cold temperatures.

This morning when going to work, upon approaching speeds of 60-65mph, my TSX started shaking like crazy, causing me to almost lose control of the car. The VSA kicked in and put the car back on track(which is even more terrifying than actually losing control sometimes)

The road was not bumpy but it was slippery, and the steering wheel does not pull to either direction but the huge vibration causes the car to slide.

Normally I would say this is caused by lack of balance between wheels, but I had the tires balanced a week ago and I checked the pressure on them today. They're all at 32psi.

My other suspicion is a chunk of ice being stuck to the back of one of the front-wheels. I looked and couldn't really see anything. I kicked the tires and some ice fell off. Took the car for a spin again and the vibration is still there. It's not a normal vibration. It's a very extreme one. Not one that would be caused gradually.

I'm taking the car to a coin carwash to clean the inside of all wheels. Hopefully it's just a heavy piece of ice causing this.

I don't feel like calling Acura and booking an appointment, taking the car there, fighting with them for a loaner, waiting there for 1 hour, being with a shitty loaner for 2 days and coming back just to be told that "It's normal", or "We couldn't reproduce the problem"

Any hints?

i am partly relieved by reading your post!

I have the same problem, with the same symptoms, with the same chunk of ice in the well (as well as all my suspendion compenents).

Crazy vibrations at 60-80mph.

I have to try to find a wash place badly, that has some hot water...

most likely something lodged itself into your tire thread - you have to check each tire thoroughly.
Another less probable scenario is they screwed up your tires when they were "balancing" them. Some places (like Jiffy Lube or Brake-O-Rama) clearly rip off ppl. They charge for repairs that were never done, or done incompletely. Usually it's something a common folk can't really tell visually if it was done or not. Tire rotation and tire balancing are some of the most common rip-offs.

OMG!! I had the same problem, was on the highway going 100km/hr (60mph) then all I felt was the steering wheel shaking like crazy.....so I thought it was a balance problem. And today I went on the highway to go to school and the shaking was gone. =S

weird.....

I've had this happen, and it was lots of snow stuck in the wheel wells...Took it to a car wash with undercarriage spray and that took care of it.

I had the same issue yesterday but not as severe. But alarming enough for me to call the dealer. Turned out to be snow/ice in the wheels. All okay today.

I have a 2007 with 1500 miles. I live in NYC and my car was not driven since Thursday. I just dug it. It was shaking at 50mph and above. I thought the car was going to fall apart.

I have had the exact same problem except without the ice. My car vibrates horribly at approximately 60 mph. The steering wheel shakes, but it is in fact the entire car that is shaking, not just the steering wheel. The dealer has said that there is nothing wrong with my car.

This is actually the biggest complaint that I have with my vehicle. It is clearly some sort of design flaw, and yet Acura seems uninterested. In fact, when I drove a loaner while my car was in for service, the loaner did the same thing (to a lesser degree) with only 4,000 miles on it.

Has anyone gotten any help from the dealer or elsewhere?

that doesn't sound right. I have gone 80 plenty of times and never experienced this issue.
