Depending on your budget... if you're wanting cheaper - more for your money kind of food, i'd stick around chinatown, but that's mostly asian food, if your cravings are of mexican food, i'd hit up mission street (note: don't overdress in colors red or blue in particular, not the safest neighborhood), if you bauwwwllNN and want some fancy shit, theres a big variety of good food places in and around Union Square (Where Macy's is (i think its just a west coast thing)). There's always the cheesecake factory (not sure if they're locations of those outside of california, but just throwing that out there). You should mos def check out fishermans wharf and hit up that clam chowder... MUST! Also, you could go across the bridge, just before oakland, you can take highway 24 to berkeley and there's this famous (voted #1 best pizza in the bay for like the past 30 yrs or something) pizza place called Zachary's chicago style pizza, not too pricy either, but the pizza is awesome! it should be in your navi if you put it in, if not i could always give ya directions. sorry for the wall of text =)

i used to live in the bay area back when i was younger, but still go up a few times a year since i have my best friends that still live up there.
you definetely have to go to fishermans wharf (aka pier 39) and get some clam chowder. get it from the people selling from the carts around the pier, its GREAT!
then you have to go to ghiradelli's for dessert and have some hot chocolate, ice cream, etc. all the stuff there is awesome.
you can do the usual tourist thing and take a drive accross the golden gate bridge, also stop down at treasure island and check out the skyline view, take some pics and stuff there. its a great place with a nice view, lots of postcard pics are taken from there.
as far as other stuff to do, theres plenty, depending what your into. lots of clubs if you're into that (i hate clubs), theres also lots to eat, and sights to see. check out lombard street (the crooked street) and good shopping also.

^^^^ hahahhahahaha
There are plenty to do in S.F. People have already mentioned some of the touristy stuff.
For shopping, you can go to Market in Downtown S.F (kinda like 5th Ave in NYC) there's lots of really nice department stores and shi shi places to shop there! Another shi shi place to shop is in Santa Clara called Santanna Row! You'll find all the high end stuff there like Gucci, Coach, LV, etc, but that's in the south bay. It's a little south of S.F. But if you are more vintage and like to find cheap and unique clothing, Haight St/ is a perfect place to do some major shopping! There are a few expensive shops there as well, but mostly nice boutiques and vintage stuff!
There's a plethora of nice restaurants in downtown S.F. has really nice restaurants around that area! But one of my fave places is Levende Lounge next to Mission St. Poleng , Papalote, etc you can google these spots!
Sorry, I wish I could type more, but I can't think at the moment! hehe Have a good and safe trip! You'll love it up here! It's been a bit warm lately hopefully it'll stay that way! We can never really predict Bay Area weather! hahahahaa Take care!

This is one of my favorite spots in SF: http://www.espetus.com
It's a little pricey, but the meat is great! There are a ton of clubs, places to eat, thinks to do there. You might want to go to the touristy places since it's your first time. Like the Golden Gate, which is not too far from Haight and Ashbury, and also Pier 39 / Fisherman's warf. There's a good restaurant out there called Scoma's http://www.scomas.com/ Also another pricey place, but the food is good.
If you like Viet food, here another good place that is pretty fancy Anna Mandara http://www.anamandara.com/am_site.swf
