View Full Version : TSX Accessories No One Buys...
Just got to thinking the other day while looking through the TSX accessory booklet and haven't heard of anyone installing the following:
Door Edge Gurards
I-VES (Rear DVD Player)
XM Satellite
Anyone here done these or plan to?

Maybe the door edge guards...I got a chip when my dad opened my rear door into one of our cars...which we sold a few weeks later :( :bawling:
I'd have to see how they look like first though.

I'm with TRU -- none of the above, but might like to have the door edge guards.
I don't think I realized it was an option when I got the car. If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten them.
Anybody have them? How are they?

Personally, I wouldn't have a need for those.

I think the door edge guards are basically a strip of rubber that "clips" onto the edge of the doors. I've seen them on other cars before, but not on a TSX. If memory serves me correctly, I think they were black... not sure if other colors are available. Don't know if I'd want a strip of black rubber along every door.

I saw some on display at the Chicago Autoshow back in Feb. I think they were for the TL...but those were colored... I'm guessing the ones for the TSX is colored also. You can also get some of that 3M clear bra material as door edge guards as well. My clear bra installer has done them for a bunch of people.
If the TSX door guards are the same as other Hondas, which I have no reason to believe otherwise, they are made from aluminum and painted body color.
I've installed these on my Ody and my dad's '00 Accord, the only difficult part is removing the strip of rubberized sealant Honda applies inside along the door edge. Honda provides a special "tool" with the gurards to perform this. The drawback is the potential to scrape some paint, they advise applying touch up paint to the scratched areas prior to installing them. If you're real careful, this can be avoided.
The guards "crimp" on, a rubber mallet helps wedge them on. They are also pre-formed to fit each specific door shape. Onlya slight raised vertical edge along the door is noticeable, nothing objectionable considering the benefit they provide?
Also, forgot to add to the list:
Hands Free Cell Phone Interface, I posted the install instructions for the Accord which is virtually the same. I'm considering this one myself, but no one else has ever mentioned getting it? Are you all aware of it?

For the I-VES (Rear DVD Player), I suspect that a lot of people opted for the NAV + DVD player + avelectronic route. (Not to mention, cleaner, sleeker install).
Plus, demographically I think TL/MDX owners are better age/financial fit for people with interest in Rear DVD player. TSX owners somehow seem out of place in that crowd. :donno:

The big drawback to the avelectonic config is you can't use the Navi at the same time a movie is on. I suppose that is only right since you shouldn't be watching while driving? ;)
Although, sometimes on a long trip, I wouldn't mind listening to a movie?

Really, Whatcham? -- Have a number of people said they got that? I only noticed one guy (Vik, vp911), and my impression has been that while quite a few people have asked about it, very few have done it. :donno:

Tough to get a whole movie onto one cassette isn't it? Besides, cassettes are going the way of the 8-track.

I have added the door edge guards on my TSX & RSX-S. Helps prevent chipping on the door edges. Easy to install and blend in well due to color matching.

Miner,
Thanks for posting, your TSX looks great!
Would it be possible for you post a close up of the door edge to see the moldings better?
Thanks,

Will do. I'll take pics of both the TSX & RSX-S so you can determine how the color matching is with OEM paint.

Sweeet!!! Nice car too BTW
I'm still debating on getting some, but with your pics, it'll help me decide. I allready have a chip on the edge of my rear door cause someone opened it a little too hard and swung it to one of our other cars...which we sold a few days later :(
Can't wait to see closeup pics :)

Welcome to the Club :(
Mine is real tiny (like a pin head) but right on door edge contrasting dark gray chip with PWP is obvious. BTW, PWP touch up is useless, this stuff is like water, completely translucent with no coverage!

Hey...I'm in the useless touch up paint club too... It looks SSM when in glob form, but if you start taking it off, it gets translucent. I went ahead and got some Canadian paint pens instead...they work alot better than the paint bottles we have here.
I got you beat with my chip (mine's bigger than yours :p)...mine's about 1/4 inch :(

Don't know if I'm understanding exactly what I'm seeing (I know it's not that complicated)..... :D
.....but it looks to me like the guards are quite obtrusive and affect the flow of the car's appearance.
Anybody else?

Well Larch,
It's obvious to me... I haven't got a clue what you are looking at? It sure can't be the door edge guards, cause the pix don't even come close to showing them.

I wish I could do a John Madden telestrator kind of thing, with a pointer and everything, so I could ask, "What about this?"

CAll me ignorant, but I love XM radio. I guess it's because I live in a rural area and the local stations we have are simply either country or gospel. Now, I like all music, but a steady diet of those two will have you in a trailer, drunk and fightin' with your woman in no time and then going to church and repenting. It's a rut I don't want to get into ;) .
Anyway, I like the convenience of having sports when I want sports and oldeis when I feel like it and on and on. I'm still looking at what to do, but apparently no one here likes it, so I'll move on...

I don't think anybody has anything against XM, it's just that not many TSX'ers have considered it a priority.
I think we've heard some about how the reception sometimes isn't that great. How is it for you?

Lousy. Execpt for those lousy country and gospel stations which come in loud and clear. the nearest Top-40 station is 30 miles away and the nearest oldies station is 40 miles away. We don't have a local ESPN station and , well, it's not so good. It's CD or nothing. XM is my answer.

I don't know if I'm really against XM, but I don't think it's worth it. Of course, I live in a relatively big metropolitan area where we have a decent variety of radio stations. Plus, I like listening to local news and for music, if I can't find anything local, I'll pop in a CD with 20+ songs that I burned onto it.
XM radio reminds me of the old satellite TV back in the 80s. People were getting hundreds of stations from all over the US... you could find the same episode of "Different Strokes" on 10 different stations!
How many presets do you need for an XM radio?

I don't really care for XM satellite radio. I usually listen to news radio AM or my trance/techno CDs. Then there are times when I drive my car long distance I don't listen to much if any radio.

Great line!
I'm with SJ -- I'm more than happy with the local stations -- 2 that are basically all news, 1 business, 1 sports, and a lot of other stations that I don't care about. And the Rush-and-Dr.-Laura station :D Oh, plus an oldies station and a station where a friend is a DJ, which is cool.
About XM -- as per what Insman said, and SJ too, it depends on where you are and what there is on regular radio. Plus, as Insman said, how the regular radio reception is in your area. It really reminds me a bit of how it was with cable TV in the early days, at least in the NY area. Now of course just about everybody has it everywhere, but back then, around here a lot of people first got it not because of all the stations but because over-the-air TV reception was so poor.

If the TSX comes with XM, I'd probably subscribe to it. But I mostly listen to the same stations here and when I travel I just pop in CD's (1/2 trance/dance cds  ) or when I get my MP3 player, use my SNHOND3 Aux input. Alot of times, I just don't listen to anything except the TSX's engine...it's too quiet :D
