View Full Version : Car shaking badly after CO installation!

Hi all, I just finished H&R CO installation. I did with a few of my friends. It was pretty intense with a few problems.
After the installation, whenever I go over a small bump on a road/highway, the car shakes pretty intensely left and right. It is more noticible in high speeds.
I initially hoped it'd be b/c of low tire pressure (changed my tires as well), but they are around 33-35psi.
I installed Ingalls Camber kit with it, by the time I was working on it, I couldn't figure out which side goes to wheel disc and to inner body of the car. I might've not tightend ingalls enough?
Ne idea would be helpful. The 20 min drive was pretty scary.
What can contribute to the shaking?
Will my wheels come flying off?
HELP~
EDIT: I checked the height of the fenders from the ground.
FL: 25 "
FR: 25 "
RL: 25.5 "
RR: 26"
So I adjusted them to 25" front 26" rear. I thought I checked them right after :donno: Maybe the springs settled?
How much lower are 25" 26" from stock? I wanted to go about 1.7 2.0 lower than stock.
I hope this fixes the problem. :mecry:

Not sure how could I help you with this ?
Did you install the camber kit / coil over kit correctly ?
Did you do your alignment after installing this ?

ZYou did the install yourself at your home?
If u didnt get the car aligned then that is the problem. Shuddering of the car means the car is out of alignment.

it shouldn't be that bad, when my mechanic installed it for me without alignment, it didn't shudder at high speeds...

But the fact is that whenhe was installing his camber kit he didnt know whether they were on properly or not so i presume they were not adjusted thus alignment is of spec.

I assume your H&R coilover is brand new???
Either way, since the supsension is on, drive to one of your hook-up mechanic, and ask them if they can do height adjustment for you (pretend you don't know how to install). It's about $15 or less per corner depending on how close you are w/ the mechanic. They will fix the problem for you.

Update:
I don't understand how ride height played a big factor in the shuddering.
However, after the height adjustment (had to stay up till 4 AM after beer w/ friends etc lol), it's pretty much gone.
Then this morning, I heard some metal sound coming from rear right side. When I checked it out, I found out the stabilizer link was loose. That side was the last one I worked on and prolly wanted to finish quick and forgot about it. :(
Now, the ride is very ... exciting. It feels like I am attached to the road and very little body role/lunge. Ride is not as harsh as I thought and rather it's v/ smooth. I forgot to make a note of the stock ride height, hence, I don't know how much I lowered. I am guessing it's around 1.5-2" all around.
I'd definitely DIY this one even if I can go back in time.
As for the camber kit, I did install them at the right places, but was not sure what those silver/black nuts were indicating (which side goes to the disc). I don't think it's an issue at all.
I am getting alignment tomorrow morning.

I think so. No weird noise from the CO or no part loose from the CO.

If this continues after tightening the stabilizer link, I'll get a mechanic to have a look. :) I researched quite a bit on many DIY CO installation and also took extreme care in it (except for the last bit lol), and I dno't regret the DIY (yet)

I wasn't anal about getting the camber arms to be the exactly same (OEM vs. stock) but they were adjusted

they are OEM tires from last summer :)

Yup, after getting an alignment/tightening thhe stabilizer link, I'll see a mechanic if any problem still occurs.

Actually the "photographer" (my other friend) wasn't able to come so pix from the process was not taken. However, if you want, I can take some pix today when I take off my wheels, and help you a little if you need. I feel like I can do the install in 3 hrs or so now, unless there are lots of rusted out nuts/bolts. Let me know if u have ne questions.
What does stabilizer link do neway?
What is the stock length between the top of the wheel to the fenders?
I am curious to know how much I lowered.
