dude white balance is off, and i think your a bit over exposed in the background.

yeah they are a little overexposed. also not a fan of in front of house pictures really. make the picture too busy and detracts from the look of the car.

time for some black window trim with those visors.

Yeah, didn't really have time to take many pictures, just snapped a few before I headed out for a few errands. :(

there is almost no way for him to compensate for the bg because he metered the car.

and he's behind a building... at least give him credits for having proper exposure on
the subject :)

i think the house is fine, suits the car, ur typical middle class.. it adds feel to it...

keep on shooting. my advice would be, try to make ur composition and crop ur image
in the view finder rather than photoshop.

not bad, it takes time to learn I've had two DSLR's and still don't know how to fully use it to its full potential.

I did realize that he is behind a house, so i didn't mean to say it was overexposed in the background as flame just a pointer.

I did get yelled at several times and by people with the first time i was shooting in manual mode.

yelling is not needed :)

critiques helps, but only when one can identify wut is wrong with the image.
for example, saying 'this image is boring' is really a blank statement...
but if one point out 'this image is subtle because the ratio of the subject to the
negative space is great' then we have something to work with

not sure if u guys get wut i mean, i m not trying to instruct anyone how to
comment on pictures, but rather make one think more critically, 'why this
image works?' or 'why not?'

Yea i actually bugged him on aim and asked him if he had trouble with them in the first place.

Note this was before I bugged him haha...

Nice cars and nice pics.

Being a noob, i always had problem taking photos in the shade with a sun-lit background. Is there anything i can do to compensate the exposure to 'balance' the photo (Neochaser)? Take this photo for example.

Let's just say the asian parent's aren't fond of rebadging.

Oh the Koreans, how they've been so Westernized after moving here. :bawling:

I have the Accord Badge in my trunk, it'll go on sooner or later. Not now though :)

there is absolute nothing you can do in this situation if your equipment
is just a camera/lens. the reason is because

sunlight is VERY intense, therefore the contrast of intensity in the shade
make is impossible to compensate the other. if u want the sky in this image
then ur wall is gona be totally dark with little details. that said, there is
3 things you can do.

1. choose the time of the ur photoshoot, sunset/rise is the "golden" time...
where light is softer and diffused... that's how u get the smooth light on
cars ... still, u won't get a perfect balance, it's just the way it is.

2. pending on the subject, a flash can be used.... in this case... u can use
meter the background (sky) and use a GIANT light box... and expose the
forground (wall).

3. would be to take 2 images, meter the two zones and merge it in photoshop.

btw very intresting image you have selected to use as example. good
exposure on the wall....and lots of many little details which can be subjects on their own...
because there is not one element that dominate the image except maybe for the wall.
yet this is an image that makes one want to
look at longer to find all the various details...

it's not an image that someone could say "it's too distracting" or "i dono where
to look" because there is no real subject and it is composed to make one's eyes
wonder.... perhaps the photographer didn't think as much when they took this
photo, however; it is what it is.

^ haha, thanks Mr. Neochaser. I'm not a photographer, and i certainly don't have a taste in art. In fact, the reason i got a DSLR and learned about using one is because of my work.

Most photos i take are during work, where i don't have time to 'set-up' my photo. Thanks for your comments. When i have time, i'll certainly experiment more.

And to the OP, your photos are looking good.

Second set of shots look way better! I think there was too many reflections from the car of its surroundings that it took away the look of the car! But nice car and nice shots!
