well i was at my homegirls house watching movies sat night till sunday morning. when i saw it was almost 5am i decided im tired and wanna go home and sleep. i got on the highway and jus hit it to get home quickly which was pretty dumb though it had no cars on the road. FHP pulled out of no where and got me and my cuzin. i got hit with the radar doin 122mph and my cuzin doin 103mph. we almost got arrested and went to jail for racing but proved to the cop we was jus speeding cuz we were'nt racing and now i gotta go to court for it. does anyone who live in FL ever had to appear in court for speeding like this? i have only had 2 speeding tickets in 5 yrs, and never had to go to court. i'm jus really nervous about whats gonna happen to me. any advice on what i should do?

i know if you were in pa you would just be ****ed. pretty sure you are probably still ****ed in florida though to since I know the top speed limit down there is 65 and you were doing almost double.

i was actually doing almost 140 when i hit the brakes is when the radar got me. the cop had taken my keys and slammed me outside my car on hancuffs for a little, but then he said he couldn't prove we were racing. now i'm not sure whats gonna happen when the court sees the speed i was at. luckily the cop only put down on my ticket i was doing 111mpg instead of 122 originally. i dont know why he would do that but i appreciate it.

yo i thought the same thing but god was on my side that night. cuz i have a suspended license to top it off the the Trooper never said nothin about it. i actually jus got off the phone with my lawyer and good news is it wont be a criminal offense since i am 8mph under from gettin that charge and for that she can take care of it for only $100 and i dont have to show up in court. she told me if you get caught doing double the limit it is a criminal charge.

Damn lucky escape there - if that'd been the UK, you'd have been looking at a ban, and possibly a resit. Especially with 2 priors for the same offence.
Over the ton is heavily frowned upon.

Next time you feel tired at 5 am, go asleep rather than take risks with your life (and that of any passengers/other road users).

my last 2 tickets i wasn't goin very fast i was only doing about 10mph over and the other was for around 13mph over. the only life i could've endangered was my cuzin, there wasn't only our 2 cars on the road. my only problem is my recruiter said this might hold me back for a little from leaving for Basic Training since its gonna take about 2-3 months to clear and i'm supposed to leave in Late July/ early August.

So, you had your cousin in the car with you at the time?
Speeding is not black and white in my book - an arbitrary number does not dictate that any speed up to that only is safe, there are numerous factors.
But, you already acknowledged you were tired, therefore you weren't alert and you obviously were going too fast in the circumstances since you failed to clock a patrol car.
If you knew that stretch of road well enough, you'd have known if it was a favourite haunt for patrol cars to sit in anticipation/expectation that they'd catch someone chancing their luck.

You're still a lucky bugger getting off with $100 and no points - so I wouldn't think you've any call to complain about Basic Training being affected. Count your blessings that's all that's been affected by your frivolity.

PIGs a.k.a cops like phish and collect revenue, they wait for the bait to pass by them before catching it. They also like to wrongly accuse a person to make their violations worse than it seems to boost themselves and the fines a driver must pay, while at the same time earn bonuses on their paychecks. Nothing like ruining a day for an innocent driver. We don't understand how pigs can get away with breaking laws such as wreckless driving, speeding, and even running a stopped school bus with children crossing the street, while we can't.

glad to know how u feel about pigs....also known as police officers. i dont know what planet ur on but when u get ur facts straight about how a police officer gets paid and what is the reason for there performance in there jobs, you can enlighten me. from what i see is someone clearly doing his job and someone knowing they ****ed up. the police officer was mearly doing his job and protecting the driver who messed up life and the people around him as well as himself. the reason the officer lowered it already from 122 to 111 is called a break...if ur lawyer can do more for u than ur really lucky. but since im a pig as chinchillax points out and since im bait hungry like a fish, my bonus would be based on that. even though hes completely wrong with his far fetched statement on that one. all i know is u got one break already and if u came to my court room and placed a plea in front of my prosecutor and than he turns to me and says whats ur recomendation since u wrote the summons i would say truthfully i cut it down on the side of the rd. so he wouldnt face jail time. what more does he expect. so honestly be happy the trooper gave u the break already. if ur lawyer can do more than ur lucky.

yo man i have a lawyer that can help you out with this.. he pretty much gets rid of the ticket totally.. and yea.. if ur caught over 30 mph over the speed limit you have to go to court and depending on your driving record you get some kind of punishment.

What branch of the service are you joining?

I did this very same stupid thing years ago. Luckily I wasn't taken away nor was my car impounded. $1000 fine and 30 day license suspension and insurance owning my ass till this day, and this was like 5 years ago plus I am in CA too.

He cited me for 120 MPH in a 65 too. I stayed in the car the entire time too, just had me toss my cars keys out the window.

i'm not gonna lie the officer was straight forward with me afterwards and was jus telling me he was protecting my life which i agree with him. i've done worse shit before and didn't get caught. but this could jus be a wake up call. he lowered my mph on the ticket to help me out an i ain't got nothing against cops cuz i never had problems with them. an my lawyer is taking care of the problem. after the trooper issued the ticket he even advised me what to do to not get into any trouble when i go to court. but i dont even have to show up anymore cuz of my lawyer.

but i can tell u straight up the reason why the guy helped u out is cause u admitted guilt right off the bat...didnt sugar coat anything and stood accountable for ur actions. so with that said he issued the summons cause he had too and than since writing tickets has nothing to do with raises or ur salary...he advised u what he believes what would be ur best course of action. i applaud u for being stand up. those are the people i hook up the most. liars and cheats, well they get what they deserve. honesty is what makes a man. lieing doesnt. ya know what i mean

I thought going over 110 gets you a trip to jail?!?!?! :donno: You got lucky there buddy!

Rule of thumb, if you're too tired or drunk to drive.....DON'T drive! hehe Unless your girlee friend's parents don't allow male friends to spend the night at the house even if it's in the living room, you could've just slept in your car and get some rest before driving instead of SPEEDING to get home cause it's late...errrr...early!

Believe me, falling asleep behind the wheel is just as bad as drinking and driving! Pretty scary! So be careful and just think about your options! Don't be that person who gets hurt or hurt others! Drive responsibly guys!

Okay, mama shay is off! hahahaha

listen to shay. I was driving up from Santa Barbara to the Bay Area for 2 hours and I got really tired and swerved into the other lane, and was a car length away from hitting another car. I pulled out to the next exit right away and swap seats with my dad and slept for the rest of the trip.

Moral of the story; don't drive when you're sleepy. Definitely don't drive fast because if I was driving at 122mph, I'd drive off the side of the mountain.

In NJ, in order to prove Racing on Highway and for the summons to stick, a bet and transaction has to take place. in other words, there has to be an exchange of cash or gum or shoe laces or G/Fs at the end lol...also if u are doing twice the speed limit, u can get arrested, but thats very very rare. u can take someones liscence and impound there car but usually u just write them a summons and send them on there way. in states like south carolina and others u get locked up for any moving violation. either way like i said u admitted ur fault and advised what really happened. thats why u got the treatment u got.

I was once caught doing 80 in a 45 mph construction zone, it was also early in the morning. I had to go to court, had to pay $375+$150 for going over 30 mph (which is reckless driving in Illinois) in a construction zone; AND the judge told me that if I get one more speeding ticket within a year, I could face jail time (I had two tickets in one year, three would've been an automatic suspension). I wanted to hire a lawyer, but she said it would be just cheaper to go to court, pay the fine, and take that six hour long class to prevent a huge increase in my insurance. The whole ordeal cost me $600+ small insurance increase for about a year or so.

If it will make you sleep better at night, hire a lawyer. I would've hired one as well, but I just did'nt have the cash at that time.

even though you were fined, at least you should be thankful you came out of it okay. money is replaceable, people arent. as for po po's, they do their job though sometimes they can be pricks (pulled me over for exhaust even its quieter than my stock pretty much, on top of that it couldnt have been loud i was stuck in traffic!). as for speeding i pulled 135+ out of curiousity but thankfully no cops on the route (from personal experience). $100.00 is nice, if people want to race, thats what a track is for. police are coo usually, they ARE people too. but at least at uci(school) they are pricks, pull over anyone for anything (and make a big scene). i remember they pulled some guy to the curb for having tint. anywho, glad your safe.
