Drivers beware! Italian cops get speedy wheels
Police use Lamborghini to monitor highway, top speed 185 mph

ROME - Speeding motorists on Italian highways may find themselves being chased by a Lamborghini sports car with a flashing blue light.

Italian police took possession Friday of a sleek, 500 horsepower, two-seater Lamborghini Gallardo, which can hit a top speed of 185 mph.

The sports car, painted in the police’s distinctive blue and white colors, comes complete with a flashing blue light on the roof and will initially patrol the Salerno-Reggio Calabria freeway — a road notorious in Italy for wild driving.

The Lamborghini will also be used to transport human organs for emergency operations.

The Dutch Highway Patrol has been using Porsches for at least 40 years...

BTW, these things show up on the used Porsche market in Europe all the time and the clues are: TWO inside rear-view mirrors, the RH mirror is controlled from the passenger seat (they patrol in pairs) the targa top is immaculate (they patrol topless) there is equal wear on the driver's and passenger's seats, a freshly painted targa roll bar (the strobe light holes are Bondo-ed) and invariably a noisy reverse gear.

In the US, South Carolina received a BMW M5 (A "freebie" from you-know-who) and Cali tried T5 Volvos.....not successfully. ("Fast" they said. but "Maintenance-intensive.")

EDIT: The Dutch Highway Patrol 911 Targa image didn't work. OK, here's a 356 police car from the Porsche Museum. The very LAST run of 356s was built specially for the Dutch Highway Patrol in 1965!
