I find that the Hummer owners have a couple of typical characteristics to them:

Majority males
Drives like everybody else should move aside when they come by
Tailgate you and intimidate you with their apparent size
Almost always wears sunglsses to look mean and "cool"
Drives aggressively and think their Hummer is a Ferrari as well

Well, one such stupid Hummer driver came barraging down the road behind me today while I was driving down on Boundary road in Vancouver. Tailgated me extremely closely, and tried to "convince" me to get out of his way... Sorry dude...
So he cuts out to my left and by the time he got to the lights, it turned red. I trickled slowly to the lights to his right, glanced at him with a snickle on my face...
Obviously, he took off and wanted to cut by me to turn right at the next lights, he was like a car length ahead of me, and I hit the gas a little more aggressively, got the turbo on the RDX to spool up, it was done in less than 5 secs... I was like 5 car lengths ahead of him when I got to the next set of lights which I also turned right... I could see his face in the rearview mirror, totally caught surprised, and his stupid Hummer was simply like a fat pig trying to gather speed...
So point proven, I turned right and drove at a leisure 55 km/h speed, he came zooming down behind me, and swerved and sped off... I guess he has never been put down in his Hummer much before... let alone a humble small winny japanese SUV, but he forgot this winny has a VFT turbo, and the power/weight ratio is far superior to his fat pig Hummer...

Why all Hummer drivers think they own the road?

I may have a turbo in my RDX, but I won't tailgate any car, just to show other people I have powerful car...

Does owning a Hummer, really make one believe they are "invincible" and "almighty"???

Unfortunately…yes… it’s also the same attitudes of most full sized SUV’s and Pick ups as well.

These are the people you see speeding on the highway with 5 inches of snow on the ground thinking their SUV is invincible in the snow and ice.

I had the luxury of watching 2 large SUV’s speed up the 404, I was going 40km/hr in 3 inches of snow and they must have been going at least 100. Well, one SUV lost control and sided wiped the other SUV and they both ended up spinning out of control into the ditch.

One time, my friend brought out the monstrous H1 hummer that was a client of his. Sitting in it made me feel like I was the king of the road. The thing was a beast.

It’s not only Large SUV owners that have attitudes. People who drive Ferrari’s and such also. When I was in TO couple weeks ago, I was driving up the 400 in the middle lane. A Ferrari can zooming by in the fast lane and started to tailgate this poor guy who was easily doing 130km/hr but can’t get out of the way because the car beside him was going the same sped and him and the guy in front was a slow poke. So this Ferrari was getting pissed and he’s tailing this guy like no tomorrow. The Ferrari moved up behind me and starts to tail me. What did I do? I did the funniest thing I could have done…sprayed my windshield fluid to wipe my front windshield on the Versa I rented. I do admit, I kept the spray down for a long time, enough to see the windshield fluid mist in the Ferrari’s HID lights. Awww poor Ferrari that probably just got detailed (because his tires were shiny as hell and the car was clean), It was sprayed with a whole bunch of windshield washer fluid hehehe

I agree.. .this sort of "superiority" complex lies not exclusively to Hummer drivers alone...

I also agree with your point about SUV drivers over-estimating their vehicle's prowess in the snow...

The many years that I have driven in snow covered roads, has taught me that, slow and steady driving, is the only way to get through snow covered roads, safely and "quickly". AWD and 4WD will just as easily break traction in snow conditions, if too much torque is applied to the wheels too quickly... But then again, VSA systems today are pretty sophisticated, cutting engine power/torque, ABS etc...

up..but the main thing about AWD/4WD Trucks is that they stop the exact same way any car will stop. AWD/4WD won't make you stop and faster coupled with the fact that the SUV weighs more, you'll need to stop at an earlier distance.

I drive up Boundary from Marine drive on a daily basis and everyone who drives a SUV or luxury car wants to prove that they have a better and more powerful car by racing up the hill. If you are blocking their way, they way tailgate you until you move out of the way.

I cant stand tailgater's, I just slow down 10-15 under the speed limit just to piss them off then when they change lane to I speed up to normal driving speed so they cant cut me. works like a charm on a two lane road cuz they will eventually end up behind me again and the whole game starts over.

plus I do drive a benz SUV on the side and it does feel good sometimes even though I hate driving it, but I will or ever tailgate people just because I drive a bigger car.

Hey, maybe due to the Hummer reputation in the IRAQ and Afghanistan wars, people, especially women drive it to feel like they are well protected behind all that "civilian-grade armour plating" of the Hummer. Maybe they think that, once they lock down their "armour-plated" hummer, nobody can get in...

Really, seriously speaking... why would I want to spend all that money for a vehicle which in principle is a rough/tumble work-horse for the army... not much luxury in that, is it?

Plus trying to maneuver it in a densely populated city traffic, go figure... but I guess people who drive these vehicles have that motto..."if it doesn't get out of my way, I'll simply run over them".

Hehe. I was a Humvee driver and gunner in Iraq for a year. I drove in the exact same manner as these "Hummer" drivers operate. I think part of it is a mentality that there is nothing bigger than you on the road except tractor trailers, which are in a different class of vehicles. Of coarse, I drove like that over in Iraq because I didn't want to get blown up or shot up. Big difference between the reason why I drove like that and the reason(s) why people here drive like that. It would be nice to see one of these Civilian Hummer Drivers spend a day in Baghdad, driving around. I'd love to see their face when they see what it's like.

We have a "cure" over here .... for this kind of "hammer" drivers ... drive slow in front of him and brake very often (for no reason) and then speed up if he wants to cut you and so on ... until he gets so pissed off and leave you alone ... if he accidentally hits you ... you know who's fault is, don't you ? :)

ummm... yeah, that would be a good idea if you were dealing with a vehicle that can't badly demolish the rear-end of your car...
Actually, I simply drive really slowly in front of them, and like you said, accelerate if they try to cut outside to pass, and then slow down again...
