about a week ago i got into a car accident by sleeping on the wheels
hit someone else.
the bodyshop estimated the fix of my car around at $14000..
the radiator was vented and the air bag popped out
not so sure if there was a damage on the engine.
do you guys think it is better to get rid of the car
or get it fix...
and how does insurance work?..
do they get all there money back by making me pay extra 100$ a month
for years?.....

damn that sucks, you're lucky to be alive though.
well you've already paid for years of insurance totally thousands, maybe tens of thousands anyways. they'll raise your insurance probably more than $100 a month.
and $14000 is alot of damage.. got pics?

Hope you are OK.
How does insurance work? You should have contacted them already, particularly since you hit someone else. If not, then they have probably already contacted your insurance company. At a minimum, you should already have coverage to cover the damages to the other person. Whether or not your own damages are covered is dependent on whether you have collision coverage for that or not. If you do have coverage, the insurance company should send out an adjuster to determine how much the damage is and whether it's worth it to repair or not. A general rule of thumb I've heard is if the damages are more than half the value of the car, they will total it, but not always. For $14,000 worth of damage, there could be a lot of other problems besides what you see, such as damage to the frame, not to mention lost resale value. If the insurance company says it's fixable, then I'd get it fixed and see how well it is afterwards, but only you can decide if the car is still worth keeping and how comfortable you are with it.
Good luck.

you really dont have much of a choice. insurance will either give you the money to fix it, or pay the body shop directly. they wont declare the car a "total loss" an give you the money for another car because its not really in their best interest to give you more money.
sucks about the accident though. hope you and the other person are okay.

actually my honda civic was totaled the estimated damage was about the same they wrote me a check for the difference of kbb-what i owed-deductible. i took that money paid of some school loans and put a down on my tsx.

well, let me rephrase, i guess the way i said it wasnt very explanatory...lol
they wont at this point salvage the car, because it would be cheaper for the insurance company as of right now to just have it fixed, rather than pay you kbb value for it. they suck.
If the damage costs more than what your car is worth, they give you the money. If your car is still fixable and it takes less money to fix than claiming your car totalled, then they will fix your car. Simple as that

I think I'm worse at driving when I'm very sleepy than when I drink and drive! Not condoning drinking and driving, since I'm not completely wasted when I do, but I notice that I drive better when I'm buzzed as opposed to being sleepy! I notice that I swerve when I'm sleepy and I'm actually pretty normal when I'm buzzed while driving!
I don't think it's a good idea for me or for anyone to drive when they're sleepy! Always pull over to the side of the road! It's the best thing to do when you are in that situation! Just remember that driving while sleepy is just the same as driving drunk! And those things are a major no no!
Glad that you are okay and I hope the other person is too! I think that it definitely depends on the damage and your insurance as to what they are willing to do for you! I remember when I got into an accident (not my fault) my damage was only $2,000 but yet they considered my car totaled/salvaged! I think it was because my trunk wouldn't close! I was hit in the rear and it caused my trunk to bend and it just wouldn't close!
Luckily, they considered my car a loss! So, I was able to purchase a new car! :) I hope you have good insurance and since you were at fault, it may be hard to get a good deal! Good luck!

I think I'll keep some drinks around, and give myself a buzz whenever I need to drive somewhere far =P
Drunks always think that they're working at 90% efficiency or higher. That's because all their smart brain cells were killed off ;-P
