Hey guys. I am looking to buy the Tein SS. But I have a few questions with the adjustable dampers. I want to reduce understeer as much as possible BUT at the same time I need to not rub and avoid getting my lip damaged in New York (WE HAVE KILLER POTHOLES- although I dodge them, sometimes you can't)

1. What settings do you guys have?
2. How easy is it to adjust the ride height and damper settings?

1. currently have.. 10 front.. 8 rear
2. i tried to adjust ride height before, but it's quite impossible for me since they are SO tight. @@ I just have to go back to the shop to get them do it for me.. And as for damper settings, the front part's easy...(just need to open up the hood) but the rear's kinda complicated. that's y i have 8 for the rear.

I got 10 clicks all around works well for me in NJ, but in NY, you proly need something softer, I'd say at least 12 or 13 all around.

How do you adjust the ride height? I looked online but couldn't find anything. Thanks for the damper settings guys! If I do pull the trigger on this I will have to be damn careful

Ride Height...
The Tein SS will be giving you two "rench"(not sure if i m using the right word for that)
So yea, you will have to lift up the car to adjust it.

well, there will be a manuaL that will show how, which comes with the Tein SS package..

the manual isn't much help...so you can adjust it by just lifting the car? for a while I thought you might need to dissasemble it again.

Its not too hard to adjust the height.

The bottom collar is the locking collar so just loosen that up and drop it and then adjsut the top collar to raise or lower the ride. Once its done bring up the bottom collar to lock them into place.

full stiff around, and still doesn't seem stiff enough.

Hmm... so do any of you guys like smack your lip kits on the floor if you meet a dip in the road?

pizzaman555

Im lowered close to 3 inches and I have not scraped my lip on the road yet only really steep drive ways.

Yes...so your wheel drops down and you can get behind the wheel to access the rings. However, if you have big hands, or it's not enough space for you, you'll have to remove the wheels.

As for dampening settings, it varies with my mood. Usually I'm at full stiff or close to full stiff (still rides good)...currently I'm at full soft though. I drove my family somewhere a while ago, and haven't gotten around to stiffening it up yet. It rides as smooth as my other car though, so I'm not in a hurry to change it. I usually make the rear a couple of clicks softer than the front so that my rear sway bar is put to good use

0 - counter-clockwise- hardest
16 - clockwise - softest (you can physically keep going past 16, but it's not recommended)

isn't it clockwise is more stiff while counter-clockwise is more soft?

Clockwise is stiffest.
Counter-clockwise is softer.

You're right in that you can go past full soft, but it's not recommended.

The dampener has 16 settings...so it should be 1 to 16. If there were a 0, that'd be a 17th setting.

As for the numbers, it depends on who you ask. Some like 16 to mean full stiff, and others like 16 to mean full soft.

I think most people tend to use 16 for full stiff (I think because the manual is oriented that way too?)

I had my mechanic drill a small hole in the plastic part over each side of the shock and all you do is pull down the seat and adjust it. You will not be able to see the holes when the seats are up in the normal position only when you pull them down.

Are the settings usually 10 all around or 8 all around? What is the best to get a bit more performance and sacrifice a bit of comfort? Thanks and comments will be greatly appreciated.

8 is the average, recommended by Tein.
But you'll get what you're asking for with 10

From the manual:

When shipped from the manufacturer, the adjustment knob was set at the hardest setting(fully clockwise). Confirm that the adjustment knob has not been moved from this position.

1. Use the included wrench to turn the adjustment knob on top of the piston rod to the hardest setting(full clockwise).

2. From the full clockwise position, turn the adjustment knob counterclockwise until the "standard values" listed below are reached.

Clock wise is harder and counter clock wise is softer.

There's a way to pop out the panel pretty easily if you put pressure on the right areas. Marcus/Heeltoe had a thread on it I believe.

did I really screw up my directions then :D
If so, I appologize. I'm on vac. and I can't check. But I was dead sure it was the other way around.
But if Mike says it's not, then I must be wrong. Whichever the case, going to the end is the hardest setting.

I already described it to him in a PM a while back...the problem is that he has huge hands and still can't get in there

so I can't get this bottom collar to unlock, am I just lacking in the muscle strength?:gapteeth: can I take WD40 to this thing?

I tried to adjust mine after 6 months...and I couldn't get mine to budge either. I even tried spraying it with silicon spray. I'm afraid to use too much force since I can see the strut moving quite a bit to the side. Hope you find an easy way to do it so that I can get around to adjusting mine as well

what's the general setting for everyone?

height setting or dampening setting?

For height, it depends on the driver's preference, as well as the environment (people raise their car when it snows).

For dampening, it depends on the driver's preference. I set mine close to full stiff, while others try to stay close to full soft

alright, i got the bottom collar unlocked by taking a rubber mallet to it, but now I can't lower the upper collar, the thing wont move! Do i turn this thing to the left?
