Score: 10 out of 10 (Another great product!)
After purchasing the anti-glare screen (see my review at http://tsxclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22201), I wanted to try out the ultra clear version. I've had it installed for a while, but I have had a string of interviews and other stuff that's kept me busy (I also lost my internet connection....but I've finally switched from AT&T's DSL to Time Warner's cable). The good thing though is that it gave me alot of traffic time to see the protector in all sorts of situations (night time, day time, sun in certain angles in the sky, etc.)
Again, the product came packaged well. It was sandwiched between two thick pieces of cardboard before being placed in one of those shipping envelopes, so you have to intentionally bend the package to bend the product. (I didn't order any other products, so I'm assuming this is how they ship all their products when you solely order the protector.)
The first thing I did was to flap the screen a little. In my other review, you'll see that I flapped the anti-glare protector and felt that it was quite sturdy. For the ultra clear protector, it was slightly more willing to flap/flex. I don't know if this means that it has 1 less layer than the anti-glare version, but it still feels sturdy enough to provide protection.
When I removed the anti-glare version from my navigation screen, it took a few attempts to finally get it out. I kept trying to do the removal trick several times until I decided to try it on different corners of the screen. I finally found a corner that was willing to be lifted. Once I found that corner, the anti-glare screen came off so quickly.
The size of the ultra clear protector is the same as the anti-glare protector. It's short a millimeter on either side (which is a good thing so that it can be removed later). I decided to place it as far right as possible so that the gap on the right would be gone. This caused the gap to increase on the left side, which allowed me to compare the original screen to that viewed through the protector. (I'll center it later...I just wanted to be able to make a comparison to a stock screen.)
I was able to get the screen on, but there was one part of the screen that kept forming a bubble. I finally said screw it, and installed the remaining screen while keeping the bubble there. I figured, "hey, the anti-glare screen removed its bubble, so I'll try it again." And yes....the bubble went away!
I went through the various screens....and the color/brightness that showed through the protector was the same as the unprotected strip along the left side. I would be hard-pressed to notice the protector unless I come up close.
If you've read my anti-glare review, you'll see that I had mentioned that the "feel" of the protector was as if it were a semi-hard plastic. I did get used to the feel of it, and after a few days, I didn't mind at all and it felt as if that's how it's supposed to be. However, for the ultra clear version, it feels so much more like stock! It feels soft and slick...I sometimes wonder if it's still on! The difference is so noticeable...it's a definite advantage over the anti-glare version. I love pushing the buttons on the screen to feel the protector.
When you're installing the screen, there's a warning that it's dangerous to view the reflection of the sun through the screen. I laughed at that as I installed the screen. However, on the way to one of my interviews, I had the moonroof open...and wow, it sure reflected the light directly at me. The protector gives the navi a glossy surface, which means it reflects more light (more as stock). This is where the anti-glare version would shine (I know some of you probably love to drive with your sunroof open all the time...I usually don't).
All in all, I love both products! I certainly would recommend that you buy the bundled pack and try each one. As for me, I think I'll use the anti-glare version during the summer months (for the moonroof), and the ultra clear version in the winter months.
