Hi guys.
I have been on acura-tsx forum... I decided to move here. I hope to bring some crazy spirit here :shiner:

Here is some picture of my car taken from yesterday! woot!

Took off the wheels yesterday b/c my baby will sit with dealer until they fix the problem.

Welcome, thrilled to have you!
No surprise that I love being the first to welcome people here from "over there." :nervous:

BTW did you get turned off by the new format over there?? I see that people are doing their best to be gracious about it, but it sucks (no joke). Let me put it more maturely: It appears to be unfortunate. The regional forums have been eliminated, with odd explanations, and (once again) the Comments/Suggestions board has been eliminated.

They're lucky I'm not over there (because I'd be laying it right on the line). But then again they've known that for a long time.

About the wheels: Do you mean that you switched from the gold rims? I mean, it looks great with the silver ones, but I woulda thought the PWP would look SUPER AWESOME with the gold.

Or is it a put-on?

Larchmont, who has been known to miss a put-on or two. :D

Theirs weren't. And those are the main things I'd be squawking about.

hee... yeah... we have been trying hard to build a group/friends in their Canada West forum. Then they suddenly decided to close it w/o a word in advance. I think they don't want us to build a small community within the board there. Or may be some good influence from that Dan Martin guy b/c he got pwned in that forum a lot. ROFL

anyways... I had the gold rims on before, but I need to take them off b/c I ran into financial difficulties... j/k... I put the accord wheels b/c my car going back to dealer today until it is fixed.... so I don't want my wheels to stay with them. Last time I put the TE37 on, they play my car for like 10+ km... can't imagine what they will do with this one if it stays overnight lol.

Wow. I'm not sure I understand Sazabi's Canadian English :D but I think he's saying they screwed up his wheels.

What was the story, Sazabi?

P.S. Just saw the additional pics.
You know, on second thought, I'm not sure how good the gold rims are with the chrome handles and some other things about the TSX (headlights, grille)......

err.... ok....
The engine light of my car always comes on. It took already 2 months and the dealer couldn't fix it. This time, they give me a coutesy car, and my car will stay with them until they can fix the problem.

I have 2 sets of wheels (TE37 and LE28N). Last time I went in, I had the TE37 on. When I get the car back, I found out I gain 10+ km on the car. So, the mechanic must have gone for a long fun test-drive. Therefore, I dont' want to leave the LE28N on my car because I am afraid they will take my car out for fun again, esp. when the car gonna stay overnight.

This gets back to some issues that I've batted around a lot of times, and which (unfortunately) drive some admin types a little batty.

I'm convinced that when you prevent that kind of private communication, it stifles communication in general and therefore is BAD for the site -- and that's even completely aside from how it pisses people off, which is additionally bad for the site.

Of course I'm not speaking from experience running a site, because I never have; I'm speaking only from life experience (in a variety of fields, all of them involving communication and human systems) and what I regard as common sense, which I think do count a lot.

IMO the main difference between my view and theirs is that mine is long and theirs is short. Of course they'd say the main difference is that I don't know what I'm talking about.

Time will tell. But of course it may take a very long time to really know.

Anyway -- welcome. I think you'll love it over here.

"Not taking opinions from users" was a big part of the problem.
I'll leave out most of the rest, except to say that they also booted people for talking about THIS site.

No idea why they woulda had any problem with the idea of regional forums, which certainly seem like an extremely valuable thing.
And I'm flabbergasted that they think people will buy their stated reason for eliminating those forums.

Because one of the mod got pwned badly so many times in the regional forums ROFL. He is on this site too I believe. HA HA HA...
Yes he is.
I never noticed about him getting "owned" on the regional forum, because I never looked there. Most people don't, except maybe on their own region.

And yes, he's here too, although not lately. I wouldn't have thought he (or any of the mods) would mind a heck of a lot about something like that -- especially since it was on a regional forum, which has so little "circulation."
And Dan particularly seems like a very open-minded guy with his head on very straight. So I'm very, very surprised if that's what it was.

In any event, I think we can be pretty sure it was dumb. As usual, they might say that I don't know what I'm talking about, but the thing is, you don't have to know all the trees to see the forest.

A relevant point is that on the TSX forums, the people in general tend to be very reasonable. "Flaming" and bad behavior are rare (except in an admin or two :D not here fortunately), and in those rare instances when people do get out of line, they virtually always respond well to a little prodding. Which means that drastic measures are rarely, if ever, necessary.

And Sazabi in particular, I think it's safe to say, has shown himself to be a valuable and eminently reasonable member.

Which leaves only one thing to say about this: :werd:

You'd be amazed what a little up-frontness can do.

I have always been up front with folks that PM or email me or ask questions on the forums that I can answer. I certainly am not being "f*ing secretive" about anything. The fact remains that change takes adjustment and the reality is you can't make everyone happy. Sorry that a few folks don't like the changes, but the fact remains is that most do so what can you do ... dunno.

So the Canada West forum. For one, they were posting tons of topics that could have been helpful to the population at large to the Canada West forum and moving them became a daily chore even though many suggestions were given on how to decide what is regional. 90% of regional forums are about "meeting folks" ... so guess what, there is a forum for that.

Look ... just don't presume to know the answers. I think all of us can learn from each other, but the fact remains that there is only ONE person (in our case) that has hard cash on the line to make it work (it isn't me). So you have to give your opinion with the assumption that it can be rejected and that is "ok".

One more comparison ... let's say you own a McDonalds and the Burger King is next door. What would you do if someone started to walk around and complain about McDonalds and sneak people over to Burger King even after you had tried to ask them what was wrong with their burger and fries and could you be of any assistance? Bad example, but you get my point ...

Hopefully that is enough up-front for you? But you know what ... I already know that it won't be for you larch. I don't know you that well, but I know there are some folks that always have questions and sometimes even have presuppositions on the answers. What can one do ...

I know what I can do ... I can have fun with my TSX, exchange with some auto enthusiasts and before all of that have a blast with my 14 month old twins :D

first and for most welcome aboard. :)

I'm not a big fan of the site group myself I prefer specialized sites but that's okay majority rules if a few don't like it too bad for them(me) there's other places like here they can go and there shouldn't be a problem with that.

I'm not into board wars of any kind and it's kind of sad that they're starting again but oh well. Spying on pm's is taking it too far though. I could see if you were trying to make some mass spam of a site but a convo between tow people should be left private. The fact that you don't like the new setup and they watch your pm's so that you can't talk about another site with someone is pretty bad. If that ever happened here I personally would step down as an mod. I try to do my best and be up front about my posts on any forum and not hide anything. I'll give my honest opinion on anything even if it does go against a friend and they don't like it. If they get pissed at me about it oh well then they weren't actually a friend......crap getting o/t and starting a larch style rant  :p

anyway lest do our best and not turn this thread into a board war :)

You got bad example there.
I did not ask people to leave. Not even now, I have contact with those Western people in ICQ and I have not sent a message to anyone asking them to leave. The guy I have pm going with feel the same and we are deciding where to go. (you should be able to tell since you spy our pms) He wants to leave himself, not that I am encouraging him to leave. It is more like I am in front of McDonald and telling my friend that I am going to Burger King. It is totally different from complaining at McDonald's door and ask people to go Burger King.
Well... that's a fact tho. You pay for the forum, and people who wants to stay should follow your rules. But don't flame me for stealing your people. They want to leave themselves. I am not that powerful to make people leave.

but the big difference is that they will lose money which is what their primary purpose is. Your primary purpose isn't to make money.

Well - since I am not the owner I won't speak for him, but do you think sites like these are typically run at a loss as a charity? If some are great, but that is not typical ... it takes hard work fighting for sponsors and getting ads in place, etc. Again ... I am more of a super mod so I don't handle any of that for the mentioned site, but I can assure you it is not cheap, and it is not a charity event to the people laying down the $$$ for bandwidth and servers for the larger forums.

So it's more like the IBM situation than I think you are giving it credit for ...

You don't know me quite as well as you think, because it IS enough upfront for me.
Mind you, I don't think the whole thing is a great answer, but it's plenty upfront.
What would be even more upfront would be to explain things IN ADVANCE. After all, that's literally what "upfront" means, isn't it?
And BTW my "presupposition" (good word, Prov, although the wrong one :D ) only became an issue in those instances when we had a quarrel, which was 2% of the time, and not the other 98% of the time. And the only reason it became an issue in those 2% was because "some" of your PTB colleagues couldn't stand discourse.

I certainly am not being "f*ing secretive" about anything.
Not you, dear Prov; the SITE.

The fact remains that change takes adjustment and the reality is you can't make everyone happy. Sorry that a few folks don't like the changes, but the fact remains is that most do....
Maybe you're right, but that's not what it looks like. IMHHHHHHO

.....So the Canada West forum. For one, they were posting tons of topics that could have been helpful to the population at large to the Canada West forum and moving them became a daily chore even though many suggestions were given on how to decide what is regional. 90% of regional forums are about "meeting folks" ... so guess what, there is a forum for that.
That's a very odd solution, and one that throws out a huge number of babies with the bath water.

No, it's an excellent example. And the thing is, McDonald's CAN'T PREVENT that from happening, not very well anyway. Ultimately the only way McDonald's can combat that is by doing their very best to offer the best possible products and service. Period.

I think all of us can learn from each other.....
Bravo!

Main bottom line: Provench IS an upfront dude -- and much more -- just by virtue of his coming on here to discuss this.

And I'd venture to say that any operation where he was the main guiding force WOULD do basically all the things that we think should happen. I know that (or think I do), because I SAW how things were when he was the main guiding force.

Larchmont, an ivory-tower idealist who awaits the day that Provench becomes a mod on tsxclub.com. :D

And holy smokes I am tired :D

What does it have to do with people who try to decide where to move? Because the owner lay loads of money or making tons of profit doesn't make any difference.
If people leaving, wouldn't it be better b/c less $$$ for the bandwidth?

Well - we are not talking about personal information here. We are talking about use of owned private assets. Don't confuse the two. I (like you) hope the real private info stays that way.

hee.... I don't really see the difference.... people with the right power can access information too easy... esp. when technology is advancing in a fast pace.

Also, I think it is a very wrong concept imo that you have the right to view users' pms. Let's say you go for a body check. Samples taken from your body and sent to a lab. The lab produces a report and owns it. I am pretty sure you will disagree that everyone in the lab who has access to the folder can view your physical report.

Sheesh, a whole new page of posts while I was doing one crappy post! :D

Tony -- your stance against spying on PM's is MUCH appreciated.
And, as word about this gets around, I think it will be more and more appreciated, by many many people.

Just as the opposite approach, the one that was regrettably taken by that other place, will be widely despised.

They've had to back off from a couple of things, but they keep stepping into it again. And they sure did it again this time. Big, big time.

Probably even worse than when they offered to give out a member's password.
(Some member who shall remain nameless.) :D

Discussions like this are extremely important, because they relate to the ethic of the internet, and, ultimately, what makes or doesn't make good business on the internet.

Which all of us are interested in.

I often say that I'm still learning about this medium, the medium of the internet, because relatively speaking I'm really a n00b.

But I see more and more how EVERYBODY is still learning about this medium, even experienced mods and admins. We're all still feeling it out, and discovering what works and what doesn't. A lot of the answers are very debatable, and will be known only in the fullness of time.

But spying on PM's is for the birds. And losers.

Nah... nth about Dan Martin... he is actually a good guy. I am just joking about him. Just that those admin/mod in the other site voted to remove regional forum. Of course I (among with some others) am think the admin/mods there is pick on us Canada West Forum... and of course the admin there will deny. Can't believe that a big forum would try to eliminate minority when it is growing. I mean look at how many people we have active in the Canada West forum... none of our opinion were asked like it doesn't matter. Well... no regional forum and no democracy. So here I am finding a new home here

Hi to acura-tsx admin/mod: see? people leave because you do lame things. Not that I encourage them to leave!! Good god.

Welcome -- you'll like it here.

Not just on the net but really in everything, a smaller place is often more nimble, more adaptable, more responsive. (Kinda like a car, eh? Think TSX and TL. Or, I guess, Porsche and Lincoln Town Car.) This site has the advantage there.

And of course it's also who runs the place.

BTW we're getting bigger and bigger. And hopefully we'll remain nimble and responsive.

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I like the TL too. :D

Hey guys:

Well I am very disappointed of what happened on the other side. We voiced a few concerns and said maybe it's better for us to go somewhere else...and guess what? We got banned without warning! I felt it's like a tyranny down there. I know the Admins are trying to bring us together, but the last thing we expected is that we got banned from saving our Regional Forum. Honestly I don't know what was the problem with the Regional Forum, but I am sure it's not as bad as what they think. Esp. The Canada West forum...since we know more TSXers in Vancouver and we finally found a "lounge" for us to sit down and chill and all of a sudden we got kicked out because the Admins "feel like it's better for the site." Where are the flaming and harressing? I really don't see it...also we all join the site not because we wanna make each other's life a living hell, but because we all like our TSX and we would like to communicate and share our life with others. I am going through some crappy stuff right now and everyone in the Canada West forums are far more supportive than I expected. That I still have to thank them. Anyways all I ask is that if we could put down our difference and work on it from there...I just think banning someone without warning (obvious ones) is not the right thing to do...that's all...

Thanks for the time to read my first and "emotional" post

Wtf you tryin to do, get banned or sumpin? :D

Yes indeed, the RSX handles better. Also it's faster, isn't it? There hasn't been much dispute about that. But the TSX has everything else going for it. Depends what you want.

When my TSX was in the shop, they gave me a TSX as a loaner. I asked if they had an RSX because I'd be really curious to drive one around for a while, but no dice. Had to settle for a lousy friggin TSX. :D

Very well said. And very unfortunate.

This is just another version of EXACTLY what I experienced and what led to my leaving. It just hit the fan for me sooner than for others, probably because I was more active than most people -- and, also because.....yes, as some people alleged, I'm more "sensitive" than most -- I plead guilty as charged. BTW it seems to be mainly due to just one person over there, but when it's the site owner, that can be enough.

And it's gonna keep happening, to more and more people, unless and until the powers-that-be over there learn their lessons.

(How does "never" sound?)

And anyway, tsxclub is here.

But let's get to what's REALLY important: How 'bout bringing back that great original avatar, Kanon?

Exactly.

PK, you have started insulting people here in a way that nobody else ever does. Free speech? Sure, I guess. But there are always lines that shouldn't be crossed.

Larchmont, who smells the word "hypocrite" coming.

And I think just about all the members of this community.....no, let me make that stronger -- upwards of 99% of the members of this community -- feel that when you severely and seriously insult people, you're crossing that line.

It's ironic, because you and I both have gripes about "the other site," and there's some overlap in our gripes......but what you've started doing here is essentially the same as what the site owner "over there" started doing and which was my MAIN objection to that site.

As I said on another thread, I'm not personally insulted by your insults, but I'm offended as a member of this community. And let me say -- just as a member of this community who has a feel for the place, not as a person with any power (which I don't have) -- if you don't clean up your act, I am sure that your days here will be numbered.

I hope that what you'll choose to do is to clean up your act, because you've been a valuable member of this community, you've made good and unique contributions, and I hope you'll be able to continue with that.

If my opinion is that your post is one of complete uninteligible nonsense, then I will call you out on it. If that is against the rules, then RAY just tell me now so I can leave.

Good question.

(OK, it's only a fair question, but let's give it the benefit of the doubt.) :D

Here's a couple of differences:

(1) Tone.

(2) When you say "moron" it's personal, because you're saying that's what he/she is.
When you say the other thing, it's a comment on the post.

But dunno, maybe that's too intellectual for someone who doesn't think a definition has anything to do with what a word means. :D

please, that coming from someone who tries to define the word "blame". Its a case of people getting caught up in the words, but missing the point.

and what about SAZABIs point of just joking around when calling people "dumb, stupid" etc. So her words are taken as jokes but mine are not?

I guess I stumped you guys ehh? Well I haven't got anymore shit for calling people names...I guess it's because most of the people here have seen my posts, and know I'm not just a flamer? Is that why some people are allowed to call names and others are not? As long as you've been on the site for a while, it's ok, but if you are new...BOOT...I'm sorry I'm not specifically referring to this site only...but generally internet sites like this one. Well I'm gone for the weekend...Be back on Monday...so think of something good.

[read from P1] Oh boy so they actually sniff on peoples PMs.
I knew it.

Dang I kinda wish i didn't read that :shakehead: heeeew.
Now I just wish the sorry deed was done by anyone BUT my Christian brother whom I have always had great respect for...but that IBM email analogy is just so lame...so lame. :rotz:

Well - we are not talking about personal information here. We are talking about use of owned private assets. Don't confuse the two. I (like you) hope the real private info stays that way.

So these words actually came out of the mind of a smart mature Christian family man I..i...i...i....surrender :sadwavey:

Kinda surprised to see an email saying someone had posted to this thread ... so I came over out of curiousity ....

Let's let bygones be bygones ... ok man? Honestly ... two forums ... two directions. Let's just let people fall as they will ... I regret being dragged in and making comments like the one you posted anyway.

By the way ... thinking about moving to a TL so I might not even need to come back over here anyway :D ... except maybe to say a quick hi to justin or a few others. :wavey:

P.S. Go Tarheels! :)

Always nice to see you, Prov! Hope all's well.

And if you get a TL......don't you know this is still the only place to be? :D

Larchmont, whose h.s. physics lab-mate was a big Tarheel b-ball guy.

I should say a LITTLE big Tarheel b-ball guy.
