Look at the Canada forum -- it's ROCKING! And us? Nuttin' honey...snip...
This is something I find very interesting since I started on a-tsx yet I can not quite put finger on it...
I have never interacted with Canadians as much until a-tsx. Maybe I have not much experience with Forums. (but old fashioned Newsgroups..years experience). I kept getting the impression that Acura is like a religion there...lots & lots of loyal followings.
I am wondering if the other car forums have as much Canadian presence as a-tsx.
BTW, I am 1-hr north of NYC.

I've wondered about the Canada connection too. Not only that, I also wondered why there were so many TSX forum people in Toronto but so few in Montreal. (And we sort of figured it out, I think.) And now we also have so many great members in B.C.
It seems maybe the main reason for the Canada connection is that front-wheel drive is more highly valued up there, because of the weather. Which I can understand, because I'm "only" in the NY area, and I wouldn't even look at a RWD car.
If you're young (or young at heart :D ) and if you want a "driver's car," plus if you're avoiding RWD, Acura is one of the main cars you'll go for.
btw....Honda in general is big up there, not just Acura.
About avoiding I-95 (which becomes the Cross Bronx Expwy a little south of here) -- I agree completely.
Here's what I said a while ago about the roads around here:
CBE = suck
87 = only if you have to
684 = best road in America
Hutch/Merritt = great twisty for TSX
Bronx Riv. Pkwy = ditto
Sprain Brook Pkwy = still have no idea what it's for
Saw Mill Pkwy = see Hutch/Merritt/Bx Riv.
Taconic = for the daring

I didn't even want to take I95+Cross Bronx.. in my old car...too stressful IMO on the driver & the car.....Only fit for delivery trucks.

.....But seriously that strech of I-95 has such a thick bad vibe you can almost cut it with a knife....it's so surreal.
But the biggest problem there is just the road and the traffic.
Trucks, huge trucks, noisy trucks, trucks that don't give a f***.
And everybody's in a bad mood and late, so they drive like they're in an angry panic state.
Plus there are some sudden forks that take people by surprise, so they dart the other way at the last minute.
Like I said: CBE = suck.
robert_tg
08-09-2004, 06:25 PM
Yeah, the bumpy road is so fecked up and because of the non-stop traffic
they can never get to repair any of it.
But the trucks don't really scare me...it's the non-commercial piece-of-fecked-up-shit junks that zip up & down that strech.....boy talking about defensive driving...

Actually I understand it's mostly Korean/Vietnamese??
Yes, it was different back then. I wouldn't say sleepy, but maybe kind of "midwestern," at least compared to Manhattan, which everybody called "the city."
Flushing actually was a mix of different things. Lots of apartment houses, lots of private homes. Many different ethnicities and colors, including some Asian although of course not like now. And a range of income levels, although nobody really poor and nobody extremely rich.
People in some other parts of Queens considered Flushing "tough" because we had black people. :D

Looks like you're right, or at least more right than I was.
Or maybe we both get half credit.
I was surprised how hard it was to find this out online. Did a couple of googles and looked at quite a few sites, and all I could find was that it has "large Chinese and Korean communities." Well, they do say "Chinese" first, so maybe it's the largest. Nothing about Vietnamese. I couldn't find any breakdown, or anything more specific at all.
But one thing I did come across was a list of famous people from Queens, maybe a couple dozen.
And would you believe, they include Ron Jeremy. :naughty:
Also 50-cent and Anthrax.

I think some of the paperwork shows the "build date."
If not.....if you give us the VIN number (actually all we'd need is the last 5 digits), we could probably figure it out pretty closely.
What dealer in NJ?
(I got my previous car, '03 TL-S, from Montclair Acura. Which, oddly, is in Verona, not Montclair.) :D

There was an inspection document performed by the dealer on 12/27/04. I have a bunch of issues/questions that I will post in the General Topics forum.
I appreciate all the welcome feedback/info on this site. Still kinda nervous about owning a brand new car in NYC area. This is my second car purchase. My first was 12 years ago... a faithful Altima that gave me 223000 miles. anyway, looking forward toward enjoying the TSX!

sorry, forgot to mention that I bought my TSX from DCH Montclair Acura.
I had a referral from a friend. I was treated very well.
Since this is a regional board.... DCH is kinda far for me for service. Do any of you Westchester, NY owners recommend any dealers? Curry is closest...Larchmont isn't too far...my brother bought his MDX from there.
Did any of you purchase any service/protection plans? I think my brother gets every other oil change free if he continues to bring in his car during the scheduled periods.
thanks, again.

.....my last 6 VIN digits are 003821
any ideas?....
OK, I think we can do this.
First of all, we have to know what the FIRST vin number is. I don't know if it begins exactly with 00001, but I do remember from the '04's that the numbers did start very low. There were people in the 100's. So let's assume it starts with 00001.
(Even if it doesn't -- let's say it started with 000100 -- that wouldn't really affect our calculation.)
Then we need to know when the first batch was built.
I think it was around Oct. 15 (2004).
Then we need to know how many they make per unit time.
Based on recent sales figures, a good guess would be ~3000/month.
So far, I'm pretty sure that's all pretty solid. This is where it gets a little harder.
I don't know how frequent the "build dates" are -- I'm pretty sure like it's not every day, but in batches. So it might be that there's a big batch on the first build date, then another big batch on the next, which might be a week or two weeks or a month later. So we're just winging it a little from here.
I would guess something like 11/20/04 for your car.
Someone else might be able to make a closer guess.
If Justin happens to take a look here, he could probably do better without even trying.
About service: I would highly recommend Westchester Acura, in Larchmont.
As I said, I got my previous car in NJ, and they serviced the car here as if it were their own. When it came time to buy a TSX, I didn't think of going anywhere else.
