Leather Seats

Anyone know anything about the 09 leather seats?

Before buying our 08 TSX, I tried in vain to learn which USA leather company makes the leather for the seats. Eagle/Ottawa previously made most of the leather for both Honda and Acura but is no longer the case.

It pains me greatly that much of the seat has vinyl inserts, much like our 2000 V6 Accord. In that one, we had most of the vinyl replaced with leather.

In fact, I even suspect that the door panel inserts are vinyl, not leather. 75% of the headrest is leather.

Besides not matching exactly with leather apprearance what aggravates me the most is the fact that Acura is just being cheap. How much are they really saving by using a lot of vinyl?

I haven't read anything like this on this forum so I thought it might be worth a rant.

I don't that many people here have cared enough to get into the new TSX; let alone analyze the leather to the degree you are looking for.

But I do agree that the current leather in the TSX isn't the highest quality.
I suppose you might have to go test drive one for yourself.

The new TSX is exactly like the old one.

Same cheap leather.
Same amount of vinyl.

So no upgrade at all, sorry.

nobody's mentioned yet that that fake aluminum plastic trim doesn't
bother to extend to the doors anymore on the new one.
I guess they didn't like that flowing look too much.


oh, and Katzkin does not make any interiors for the TSX.
they say they have no intentions on doing so either.
so chances are if you want to replace the crap with nice leather,
then you'll have to have it all custom made for the car.
that process will destroy the covers/material on the car now in order
to make templates for the new stuff.

so it'll be in the thousands for new interior material.

It's actually not that big a deal to replace the panels. I'd be more concerned with airbags and all the other crap.
I had it done on my 2000 Honda V6....they just removed the existing leather, carefully cut off the vinyl sections, used those as a pattern and cut matching leather sections to match.

Includin the leather it cost about $1000 as I recall.
Might be tough to match the parchment colour since I don't know WHO makes it.

I do think the leather in RL and TL is made by Eagle/Ottawa in MI. I know the RDX/MDX is.
