So far on the net the new Acura Power Plenum Grille has been despised by many. I have yet to see it up close but when I drive past the Acura dealership, it without a doubt catches your eye.

Acura has said that they wanted to move upmarket & have more of a presence & this grille definitely does that. You cannot miss this thing & you will recognize it from far off ... if this is a good or bad thing remains to be seen.

I also like the subtle way they used 5 sided grille shape in the back around the license plate:

I like the back, given a better style of the pervious model, but the grill looks gross, wonder if Mugen will make one for the new TSX?

First generation TSX is my preference as well. This car just looks too bulky - however, I have no complaints about the interior.

exactly, looks like its.... smiling at you?? wtf?? :)

The back looks like Camry ....

All in all. i think they're targeting an "older" market...

And they're marketing it as "futuristic".. where in truth, little has been changed to be SIGNIFICANTLY different from the 1st gen...

Their main selling points --->
Powerful??? --> i guess... but, i wouldn't consider it so unless they put the turbo in...
Agile???--> yeah, after a few mods... and it definitely needs better tires..
Technological--> climate control, bluetooth, navi??? its nothing new...
Stylish--> well... thats what this thread is about....

Interior is horrible..hw can it be upscale when it looks like a civic interior?

totally not feeling the 2nd gen at all!!!
besides you barely see them on the street. if it was hot, people would have gotten rid of their 1 st gen or the 2nd ones.

the grille still sucks.

and overall, i still don't like the car. it might be fresher or edgier than the 1st gen b/c of the curves and lines, but i still like the 1st gen more.

Ok so yesterday i stopped by the Honda dealer to check out the new accord (TSX). And i'm really starting to like even more every time i see it.

So after a while i start talking to this salesman, who was willing to give me some nice info about future kits to be released for the car. He told me there were several kits planned.
At firts i thought yeah sure, believe whatever you want. But then he walked into his office and came out with a new brochure wich contained some new accesoires for the new accord.
The brochure has yet to be released officialy, but from what i could see it looks promising. The have a new frontbumper, rearbumper and sideskirts, and even a new kind of ducktail spoiler wich i think are all Modulo parts. They have e nwe range of alloys wich look pretty nice. And on top of that they have a frontlip lined up, maybe the new Euro R lip?!?!?!
and to make your day the have sort of Euro R grill 2 ( that's why i posted in here ).

well anyway i did a search on the internet and came up with this.

those full bumper replacements are going to be a lot more expensive than the lip kits of the 1st gen.

it does look better with that modulo kit. but i don't know if the price justifies it. after all the add-ons, you can easily get something with more power and good looks. and you still have that hideous grille.

... its like putting lipstick on a pig. do all you want, its still a pig.

acura seems to be struggling with finding a front 'brand' identity. i think they're trying to find that front family grille that defines it as upscale. BMW already has its "look".

xjohnkdoex
06-22-2008, 10:10 PM
someone where i live just bought one. kinda champagne colored, typical demographic that acura is trying to target (ie. young professional).

it's usually parked around where i live, and the other day it was right in front of my tsx. the thing looks a lot bigger, obviously. and in some ways, it looks a little more up-to-date vs. the 1st gen, but i still really don't like the look, particularly the wheel arches and just the entire front end. frankly, the more i see it, the goofier the front looks.

There is a white on on my block, it's decent looking, but I don't think I will ever like the grille or the huge fender flares. PWP is a good color on the 2G, though.

hi guys, new owner here.
i agree with what people say about the front grill, and it does remind me of a saturn aura.
at first i thought the 09 tsx is the ugliest car ever made, but the more i look at it (i pass by cerritos acura everyday on my way to work), the more it became attractive.
As my user name states, i came from a long line of rotaries (having owned a 91 turbo II, 94 rx7, and a 05 rx8), i have to say i am really impressed with the way this car drive and handles.
now, i have driven the 1st gen tsx for a few months (a friend of mine had family emergency overseas and trusted me to take care of his tsx), so i am going to give you my honest opinion about how i feel between first and second gen.
1. first gen IS MORE AGILE on the corners, although the second gen is very close in terms of cornering ability (it is easily 100 pounds heavier than the 1st gen)
2. the first gen i had the pleasure of driving is an auto, and mine is also an auto. i couldnt tell the difference between the two acceleration-wise (this is just based on my butt dyno)
3. the second gen feels more stable at high speeds, and it is much more quiet in the cabin when going high speed. only thing it bugs me is the engine noise, and the exhaust note did not sound as nice as the 1st gen.
4. given that the second gen is a bigger car. it felt more spacious inside, both front and rear. in the first gen it felt quite cramped (i am not a big guy by any means, 5'8 and 180 pounds).
5. the interior is very nice in person, it is nothing civic-like. the leather, the plastic used in the car doesnt feel nor does it look cheap, and i like the center console layout much more in the second gen.
let me know if you guys want to know anything else.

I think the front end looks hideous, and the Nissan-esque wheel arches are too big and too flat for the car. Nothing accentuates the 4x4 wheel gap of that thing like the huge wheel arches, which are the same size.

The new TL has the same ugly grill, as does the new RL. There's a photoshoot of the new RL in the Acura STYLE Magazine for summer 08 (those of you who bought your Acuras new should get this magazine quarterly and you should check it out). The RL looks the best of all of the new Acura cars, but even on that the grill looks out of place.

I've owned over 20 Hondas/Acuras in my life, and I've owned Honda bikes, Honda scooters, etc. etc. - I've loved all of them... but I can tell you this: when it comes time to replace my 07 TSX, unless Acura steps it up in the looks department, I'll be moving to another manufacturer.

to each of his/her own opinion. i like the second gen as much as i like the first gen. i do prefer the second gen since its a bigger car.
oh by the way, anyone here has offset information on the second gen? i found something strange while looking at ebay. there is a guy selling stock 09 rims and he claims the offset is +10?!?!?!

"Bigger" can be measured in fractions of an inch, and the 09 is actually smaller for the rear seat passengers, and has less trunk space. According to the specs on Edmunds.com, 2009 is:

141 lbs heavier

3" wider
2" longer

Front leg room is the same
0.1" more rear leg room

0.2" more front head room
0.3" less rear head room

front hip room is 1" wider (they made the seats wider)
rear hip room is 0.2" narrower

luggage capacity is 0.6 cu ft less

So basically you're not getting any more leg room in the front, while the back seat passengers get one tenth of an inch more, you gain 0.5" on each side of your ass in the seats, but the rear passengers get less, and you lose 0.6 cu ft of trunk space... I want to know how they put on 141 lbs. Saying it's a larger car isn't really correct since they basically borrowed from some areas to give to others... and since the actual floor pan is the same size, I'm sure the 3" extra width came from the fender flares.

ex-rotary owner
06-25-2008, 08:08 PM
remember, I'm not tall. And I seat way in the front, so the extra legroom actually goes to the back

ex-rotary owner
06-25-2008, 08:14 PM
but would you or perhaps someone else that know about the offset on the 2nd gen? I'd like to get some rims in non-stagger 19's set up. Thanks in advanced guys.

I can only imagine sound deadening materials are a good amount of that, as some people have said that it is quieter at higher speeds. But I can't imagine all 100+ lbs being just that.

At least the Saturn Aura has style and doesn't have a shiny big in your face grille and it ain't bloated like a whale the G2 TSX is.:slant:

I still like the G1 TSX best!

So far I have now seen 2 on the road. 1 was near the Acura dealership so that does not count. The other was coming in the opposite direction of I40 {6 lane highway w/ a median} & there is no missing that grill even across that much distance. It is huge & shiny ... not saying whether or not it looks good but it definitely catches your eye and people will not mistake it for anything else but an Acura. I am guessing this was Acura's plan & if so, they were very successful in obtaining road presence. Hopefully the grill falls under the No Press is Bad Press Rule ... whether people consider it good or bad, they @ least now notice the brand.

On a side note: it looks good on the Canadian CSX.
