Hello guys,
I am very interested in purchasing the 09 TSX and was wondering how cheap I can get one. I would really want to get the tech package but it is well out of my price range. I was wondering if I would be able to get the base model for the invoice price. My friend who works for Toyota says he can easily drop the cars price to invoice if he does not feel like haggling with a customer, given it isn't a hybrid model.
If you have purchased a 09 TSX can you please tell me what price you got the car out the door? Also, when is the best time of the year to purchase the TSX to get the best deals? Im planning to purchase it during this fall.

I know there are a few salesmen in the forum, why don't you post your location and they might be able to help.

hey darren, did you get the base model, when and where did you purchase it? Also, do you know exactly what the invoice price is for the car? I have looked everywhere online and the invoice price is not listed even on kbb.com.

Yeah, I got the premium model, not the tech. I don't need navigation since I rarely use it anyways but have full GPS on my iPhone if need be. I used the couple grand I would have spent on the tech package to get the Aero kit instead.
I got mine at Hendrick Acura in Charlotte, NC. You can get the invoice price and the average of "what others are paying" price on Edmunds' website.

actually, edmunds.com is not that great of a tool for "real world" buying.
they average what people have been paying for the car and give you the "true" market value, but its BS on a car that just came out. people have been paying in some places sticker or mark up, and some have been paying what they think is invoice, so average those out and its like a couple hundred under sticker when you can totally get the car for cheaper. I am in the car industry and i'll tell you the best way to get the lowest price on this car without bs haggling back and forth for hours with the salesperson and their managers.
and by the way, the edmunds.com "invoice" is not really invoice price at all to be honest...remember, although you think its a website thats "on your side" they're incahoots with the car companies because thats whose paying their advertising and keeping edmunds.com alive. the "invoice" that edmunds.com gives you is just a bs number that Acura has ALLOWED them to put up, because remember whose REALLY controlling the website...the car companies. REAL invoice, after PAC, because every dealer has a minimum $2000 PAC that goes straight in the owners pocket per car, is usually only information that a MANAGER would have. not a salesperson, but the actual SALES MANAGER or owner. nobody else has access to that info. sometimes not even the sales manager, only the owner like to keep things private.
first, use edmunds.com to find your "local" dealerships, here in socal (since you're here) we have cerritos acura, planet acura, norm reeves mission viejo acura, santa monica acura, metro acura, tustin acura, and south coast acura to name a few. there are more also. email them ALL through edmunds. it'll give you an option to pick how soon you're looking to purchase, say within the next 24 hours. if it asks you if you have a trade is SAY NO! Even if you do, believe me on this, SAY NO. and i'll tell you why in a minute. anyway, say you want the car with technology pacakge, to see what kinda deal you can get.
anyway, so now the email offers will start rolling in. some will give you both prices, tech package, and no tech package. make sure you're looking at the right price. as the offers roll in, check them out and wait till ALL of them are in. then take the lowest and the second lowest. lets say for example the lowest is $10, and the second lowest is $10.50. well, you tell the $10.50 dealership the email you got with the offer of $10. they may ask to see it, so you forward it there. they'll beat that price and maybe offer you $9.50. then go back and email the $10 dealership that you got an offer for $9.50. they may try and beat that and get it lower. do this back and forth till at some point one of the dealerships is going to say "go buy it, i cant beat that", or "ok the best i can do is match that price". that means you've pretty much hit rock bottom.
now you go to the dealership with the whole email conversation printed out and price in written proof. if you dont have written proof and only something someone "said" dont waste your time. tell them you want it emailed in writing so you can hold them to it, because i've been through a salesman "saying" certain things and them not being true.
anyway, once you're there with the written proof, and the car is ready for delivery THEN you mention your "thinking" of trading in your car. decide what you want for your car and try and get it.
reason you need to wait is because if you mention you have a trade, they play games, because they might offer you a price $500 lower for the car, and rape you on the trade by $2000. i have not only seen it, (sadly) i've done it, so believe me on this one.
if you need help valueing your trade in so cal, im a licensed wholesale dealer in so cal and can give you a real world quote of what you SHOULD be able to get for it from a dealership...and if its a V8 your trading, God help you......be ready to lose lots or just keep it.
hope this helps, pm me if you need to value your car for trade or need any other type of help on buying a car, i've gotten pretty good at it.
OH, and no matter who you buy from, you can squeeze a TSX keychain and a couple free oil changes and maybe a carwash out of the deal no matter what.

What if there is only 1 dealer in my area? How do I get different offers? Does anyone have the bottom line price on a 2009 with tech pack.

i am not sure where your location is or if it all works the same.
but the dealer i went to said they prefer people to loan from honda NA because honda NA gives them a " kick back ", the less you put down the more they are willing to go down on prices.
maybe one of the salesmen here can confirm that?

The invoice price listed on Edmonds.com does not include the destination charge which is does state as “National Base Price (excludes destination charge)” and is approximately $720 which you can verify on the MSRP sticker on the vehicle and it is listed as Destination and handling. You can see the disclaimer on Edmunds site by clicking on this link: http://www.edmunds.com/new/2009/acura/tsx/101001143/prices.html
For clarification, the dealers are not in “cahoots” with Edmunds.com, dealers will purchase advertisement spots on their website (banners, placement spots along the right hand side and so on) but that is the extent of it. I work for an Acura dealership in the Northwest and we have purchased advertisements spots from Edmunds.com in the past so I’m familiar with the process. Dealers have absolutely no pull with Edmunds.com and we do not allow/approve numbers before they post them on their website. We do not always agree with Edmunds prices and feel that sometimes they under value our vehicles but there is nothing we can do about it.
Back to the original post. To be honest, the price is going to vary from market to market. For example, MDX’s are going for more up here in the Northwest than they are down in California so comparing prices from different states isn’t going to do you much good. You need to find customers who have purchased from your area and try to get an idea as of to how much they were able to get the vehicle for. Our store is negotiating a little (no where near invoice) and that’s about it; that is the market value for the TSX in our area. As far as the dealer aggressiveness on the price, there are a lot of variables there. If you are in an area with a lot of Acura dealers, odds are they will be more aggressive on pricing but if you are in an area with only one or two dealers then chances are they will be less aggressive on pricing. Good luck, the TSX is an awesome vehicle!

Can you tell me how much you actually paid for the car (before tax/license)? I'm in Southern California too but I plan to lease the TSX w/Tech and I would like them to use the price you paid as the basis for calculating the lease.
