3 seconds or 5 seconds

I've heard two variations of the food rule.

When you drop food on the floor do you have 3 seconds or 5 seconds to pick it up before it's no good.

I've always went with the 3 second rule myself.

Had a friend in college where there was a -3 second rule on his floor :D
It was carpeted (sp) and he was a smoker...really nasty floor..

But I personally have a 0 second rule :D

wusses :P I was making beer brats and one rolled of the plate onto the deck before I could get it onto the grill. G/f wanted to rinse it off in the sink. BAH. dip it back in the beer throw in on the grill and it's all set. Less then 3 seconds :P :)

Mostly, the sausage casings around most every sausage you might buy outside of a gourmet deli ($$$) are made from a collagen-based dialysis membrane manufactured by a former J&J company called Devro. http://www.devro.plc.uk/

I'll generally throw anything back on the grill for a few minutes to sterilize it. Natural sausage has been in a much worse place than my floor!
