I'm not sure why they don't make this puppy with a V-6. I know they've squeezed a lot of horses out of the 4 cyl., but a V-6 just sounds so much more refined out on the highway. I love the whine of my 4 cylinder Integra when I'm zooming around the town, but once I need to cruise on the highway, the drone and noise makes me tired, and makes me turn the radio up too loudly. I guess I'm getting old!:D
I guess I'll test drive the 5AT when it gets in just to see how it runs at 70 mph on the freeway. My Integra (1997) is over 3000 rpm at 70 mph, while my wife's Accord V-6 (2002) sits in the mid-2000 range, I think. If the car is quiet enough at cruising speeds (55 to 75), I consider it a definite buy. If it is slightly noisier than my wife's car, I'd still buy it. If it sounds like my Integra, I'm gonna pass and get an Accord V6 or step up to a TL.

I feel you luckybaer. For this to be a "luxury" vehicle, it will have to sound that way at highway speeds. I feel fairly confident that Acura will have taken care of this issue. The fact that it is a 5 speed and not a 4 speed tells us something. That last gear should be pretty high.

In the accordV6 they gave dual exhaust, I noticed they have also put it on the TSX with its 4cyl engine... I have deduced that there are two reasons for dual exhaust, one: Mega performance (camaro, vette) and two for quieter exhaust... Listen to your wife's engine noise when it revs around 5k rpm, what do you hear?? ALMOST NOTHING... and since this acura you will probably hear not much either...
surprisingly the 5AT gets better mileage than the 6MT, be it from the higher (or lower not that great at drive ratios) or the fact that with drive by wire on the throttle, lowering the revs during a shift... I am very convinced that you are going to get a very nice silky highway ride...
oh and those perforated leather seats! My mom had a 1986 Vette and boy were those some comfortable seats!

a 6 would have been nice maybe the 240 hp and all wheel drive now thats a car. A luxury wrx without the trbo. I would spend almost 30 for that. But im not acura or honda and I love all whel drive in north jersey. Lots of snow. Otherwise how about real wood and maybe some more leather color choices like natural brown or red or something nice like the nsx or Bmw

I think the TSX doesnt have much road noise though? The engine is so smooth and quiet that my friend thought it was a V-6 car. I did the test drive twice, and I have finally ordered one for myself!
why do you need V-6???
i want I6.. the Supra Engine...
by the way.. ill go puchase the car right now.. if the TSX was RWD..

I wanted very much to like this car. I really did. However, the 4 banger, whimpy low-end torque just killed it for me. I really don't mean to be insulting to anyone that owns a TSX but the car really lacks balls on the low end.
For my test drive I had myself, my brother, and of course the salesman along with me in the car. I was driving the auto because I that's what I been driving living in NYC. From a standstill at a stoplight, I floored the 1000 mile TSX (manager's car) and it took a real long time to get the car really moving. Not good. The car was of course, rev happy and that's just not what I want for my next car.
Just for comparison, the Saab 9-3 Vector auto that I tested the same day provided ample acceleration (heck, almost the same as my CL-S) and felt really good. No real perceived turbo lag and the gutsy low-end torque made the auto 9-3 much more fun to drive than the TSX. I was quite impressed with the overall package that the 9-3 offers. Actually, being a CL-S driver for 3 years now, I actually preferred the TSX's clean interior over the 9-3. That's not to say that the I didn't like the 9-3 interior, just that the TSX had a much "simpler" layout.
Yes, I was indeed disappointed with the Auto TSX which is a shame because I really like the styling (both inside and out) of the car. But, I have to be honest, the 9-3 made my heart beat faster in terms of performance, exterior looks, and overall package.

Just noticed this old thread.
In case any possible new TSX buyers might be looking here, just wanted to let y'all know that hardly anybody feels as JNGold does.
It's not that he's totally wrong about the bare facts -- depending on what kind or power or torque you're looking for, you might agree with SOME of his bare facts.
But not all of them, because some of them are wrong. It's absolutely NOT true that it takes "a real long time to get the car really moving," not even with the 5AT which is what he drove, unless you have very strange definitions for "real long time" or "really moving." And the car more than holds its own with the Saab 9-3 and other comp cars (including the IS300) on performance measures. THAT's a fact.
Most people find the power of the TSX to be way more than adequate. Obviously JNGold didn't, and some other people don't. And indeed a lot of people don't consider the power of the TSX to be great. But almost everybody finds it to be more than fine, and, taken together with the rest of the car, they find it a great package.
By the way, my prior three cars were BMW 320i, Acura Legend L, and Acura TL-S. And I regard the TSX as the best car I've ever had.

I don't like the Acura's sunroof switch when I compare it to VW's or Audi's
one. Cuz they offer the one touch rotation ones.
But still, the acura sunroof switch is as ugly as the toyota's.

Wearing the acura name badge DOES NOT justify $25k for a I4 ANYTHING it's still completely absurd! Not to put the s2k in the same post, but... Just like the s2000 who's $32,800 base price is enough to make any muscle car owner vomit while laughing! Ok we get the point of the s2000 that they're trying to compete with the miata in being a stupidly small car with a 4 cylinder, but the only people that like that class already drive a miata and are die hard hippies brainwashed into liking driving a sardine can of which during their brainwashing the word miata was also engraved so they're not going to switch anyways. Oh yeah and it's $10k less also.
So in conclusion anyone that gets uncomfortable or offended about this thread, kick yourself in your ass for getting suckered into buying a 4cyl acord at the 6cyl fully loaded accord price!

Not offended, just shaking my head.
BTW doesn't sound to me like he tried the car.
(Did you?)
And if he did, he wasn't thinking that day.
(No offense, but although the car isn't for everybody, it's not accurately represented by what you said.)
Also BTW it costs more than that. :D

I don't get why people feel the need to take the time out of their day to post stuff like that... if you don't like the TSX why spend time on a TSX board? I just don't get it... my time is more valuable than that to me...

yup, TSX is almost perfect except the sunroof switch. we need the one touch design...
if u want me to pick another weakness of the TSX, i would say the brakes. honestly, TSX does need better ones.

Actually I think we could use a troll or two on this site. :D
Really, for the most part we might all be just too nice.
So I say, let's get him really going!!!!!
TROLL, TROLL TROLL!!! rrrrrrrrr6
To 2.4DOHCiVTEC: Yes, I agree about the brakes. They're adequate but not great.

Come to think of it, this place does kinda lack trolls, post whore threads (umm, but we DO have a post whore though), and flames. Variety is always a good thing.
Back on topic, I don't really have any gripes with my TSX. I like it the way it is. It has met and/or exceeded my expectations. Knowing the what to expect before buying the car, and learning its limits while owning the car kinda puts everything in perspective. I suppose I could come up with something to complain about but give me some time to think about it. :)

Absolutely right. People on these forums have often complained about "trolls" and even "semi-trolls" and (would you believe) quasi-trolls, meaning just people who love other cars like the IS300 or the 9-3 or the 3-series and keep letting us know about it. But really we shouldn't complain about them -- we should appreciate them.
They might get on our nerves sometimes, but they serve good purposes. They stir lively discussion, plus they ensure that any possible negatives about the TSX get highlighted and discussed. I mean, those things would get discussed anyway, but the "trolls" guarantee it. This was one of the very first things I recognized about these forums when I started lurking a year ago -- and it relates totally to the subject of this thread.
At that time, I had just first heard of the TSX and came onto the forums looking for info to help me decide if it was the car that I wanted. I had good reason to THINK it was, but I wanted to find out everything possible -- including the car's shortcomings or even rumored shortcomings. And fortunately there were several trolls, semi-trolls, and quasi-trolls on the sites. With them around, you could just KNOW that any alleged shortcomings would be trumpeted forth. And when none of the things that they mentioned bothered me, I could be pretty confident the car would be fine for me.
The info about the TSX that I got from the forums gave me a vivid, almost real-life impression of the actual car, and the trolls' rantings played an important role in that. Of course you had to take their rantings with that proverbial grain of salt, but that was obvious, so it wasn't hard to know how much weight to give it.

Off the subject, but.....anybody trying to "Search" this thread wouldn't find it unless they also misspell "dissapointed." :D
When I searched for it, I was fortunate to remember that it was misspelled.
Also (and this is the hard part), exactly how it was misspelled. :king:

i own Lexus IS300, and i drove my friend's TSX.
I think TSX has a decent power, and the engine is pretty responsive to me.
I like it.
TSX is a great car to have

Yeah, this guy's post was ridiculous.
Someone name me another near-luxury sedan that offers the same amenities, reliability and performance as the TSX for the same or less money.
S2000? Umm, hello? The S2000 will run circles around the Miata any day of the week. Again, can he name another roadster that offers the same performance and reliability as the S2000 for the same price?
Uncomfortable? No way.
Offended? Not by the post, just by your lack of reasoning.
TSX offers more features than the Accord (even fully loaded). Plus, the TSX has better handling. The only thing the Accord has going for it is the bigger engine. The Accord is a family sedan, while the TSX is a near-luxury sport sedan.
