Oil Filter Info

Since I prefer to do my own oil changes, was wondering if anyone knew which oil filter the TSX takes?

Previous 89 Accord (2.0/4), wife's 93 Accord (2.2/4) Accord and 99 Odyssey (3.4/6) all take the same filter:

Honda / 15400-PR3-004

It's the same filter as the '02 and '03 RSX, as well as the '03 (NOT '02) MDX.

Thanks! How does this new filter compare to the current RSX filter?

I happen to be using an SDF-13 hgih performance filter from Amsoil. I've noticed that this filter is in fact smaller than the off-the-shelf TSX filter (Acura part) that my service manager showed me several months back. I was concerned about this but with your information, this might actually be a good thing!

Here is what I have found from my own digging around. All the different part numbers listed are based on different suppliers but are essentially the same filter and size.

TSX Oil Filter:
15400-PT7-005

Same as & will work with:
15400-POH-005
15400-POH-305
15400-PLC-005
15400-PLM-005

Seems like Honda would want to simplify this by adding a single letter or number to the code that corresponds to a particular supplier and keep all the filter model numbers the same?

As for the smaller or shorter 15400-PLM-A02 filter, assuming you are dealing with a closed system, doesn't it make sense that increasing oil pressure might not be possible from a smaller filter size due to pressure regulator or bypass valve inside the filter? From what I understand all oil filters stop filtering when the media becomes too clogged. When that occurs, the bypass valve redirects the oil straight through. Otherwise you would see some real pressure!

To my way of thinking, using the larger filter should mean increased filter size or increased filtering capacity?
