Nice pic, HondaMan. The TSX looks immaculate. What kind of camera did you shoot the image with?
And, yes, tints are mandatory on any car I own.

I see that "0" isn't a choice. :D
But then again, us "zero" people usually wouldn't even click on a thread called "Tint."
This seems like a good place to ask this dumb question:
What do y'all like about tint? Is it mainly just the look? :donno:

Thanks...I have a Canon A75 3.2 megapixels. :)
I've got 5% aka 95% light block, wouldn't have it any other way else ... Any darker and you'd have to paint it, this is the darkest you can get. Of course, except the windscreen, leave that un-touched. It's a different type of glass and is prone to crack under extreme heat.

Larch: I like both the look of tints and, believe it or not, the nighttime functionality of it. It really makes driving at night easier by reducing headlight glare. Once I got used to it, I could never go back.
In the summer they help keep things cooler. And yeah, they look tough, too! Especially on the TSX! :grinno:
HondaMan: I just bought the PowerShot A95 (5MP) myself. They are sweet little cameras, with a ton of features and manual controls. Took another look at your pic, and it is razor sharp. Bet that would print up real nice at full res.

About driving at night: Sounds interesting. But you mean it does this without cutting down on the visibility? I woulda thought it would.
About what Noel said: Does that mean that the usual "percentages" indicate HOW MUCH LIGHT GETS IN, not how much is blocked out?
I always thought it meant the latter.

You'd think that the tints would make nighttime visibility problematic, but they don't, at least for me. I'm sure this is subjective.
Anyway, if you were to get something like 35% , they are dark enough to cut glare, without being too dark. I have 21% tints, and love them. Always have, but that dark of a tint is illegal in most states, at least on the front side windows. Never had a hassle, though.
I think the pecentage number refers to how much light gets in, e.g. 21% tints block 79% of the light. Not as bad as it sounds. :)
Another benefit is that tints help keep harmful UV rays off your expensive leather. :D

Another thing, the tints always seem darker from the outside than they do from the inside. Once you're in the car, everything's copasetic.

Yep, great digicam! I think I'm going to go with 20-25%...it's legal in GA now.

Yeah, that's about the perfect tint range, 20-25%.
BTW, that is an excellent avatar. That thing is positively mesmerizing!
One of these days I'm going to have to learn how to post one of those things! :D

So, about the %, lemme get this straight:
In the poll, 30-35% is the LIGHTEST tint, and 15% is the DARKEST????
Pardon my redundancy -- it does seem like y'all were quite clear on it.
I'm emphasizing it because if that's really how it is, I'm sure I'm not the only one who had it backwards like forever.
In fact, I'd guess that MOST "non-tint" types thought it was the other way around.
The smaller the percentage, the more light it blocks out. But for clarity sakes, some people do it the other way round so I always state both. And 5% is the darkest tint made anywhere in the world, there isn't any darker you can get while generally, the laws around the world seems to be consistent in permitting up to only 35% which blocks out 65% light and nothing darker.

OK, I guess that's it. (Thank you Noel!!!)
For the many of us who have probably had it backwards, I think we can sort of say it's not our fault. First of all, the terminology isn't intuitive -- in fact it's counterintuitive. A given percentage of "tint" would certainly seem to mean how DARK it is, not how light it is. But, according to Noel's explanation, it's the other way around. And, as Noel also explains, INDEED SOME PEOPLE DO EXPRESS IT THE OPPOSITE WAY -- for the sake of clarity. I guess that's another reason it has been so easy for us to misunderstand it.
So, let me play the part of the little child in The Emperor's New Clothes, and state the obvious:
The system is nuts. It's ridiculous.
When you have a system which is so easily misunderstood and which is counterintuitive, and which people purposely disobey it order to be clearer, it's nuts.
Somebody ought to do something.
Maybe it can be us. :D

About the confusion on what the "%" means.....I wonder how common it is to misunderstand it.
I'm sure it's very common among people like me who don't know or care much about tint, but that doesn't really matter, does it?
What matters the most is whether people who are into it understand it.
I wonder particularly how often the misunderstanding has led to the wrong job being done -- like, somebody asking for "65%" when they really meant 35% but just didn't understand what the numbers mean.
Most if not all tinters have a UV/light percentile gauge they can show you after/before the tint is applied. That's the standard of measuring tint percentages.

That takes care of it all right -- people would get what they want even without knowing anything about percentages.

It's a black car. Go as dark as you're willing to go. since 15% is the darkest of the choices I say go with 15%.
dark cars=dark tint
<--18% all around

yep. They're not the best pictures to show the tint though. There's more in this album. (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289423529) Skip to number 32 to get to the pictures after the the tint was installed.
