Air Bags Prompt Recall of 257,616 Hondas
Business - Reuters

DETROIT (Reuters) - Japan's Honda Motor Co. is recalling 257,616 of its Accord sedans from the 2004 and 2005 model years because of potentially faulty air bags, U.S. federal safety regulators said on Monday.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a tear may occur in the driver's side front air bag of the Accords, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

The recall is expected to begin on Dec. 6 and owners of the vehicles affected should contact the U.S. division of Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

my only concern is for the drivers who get into a crash from now and december 6th....there are so many 04-05 accords you know its gonna happen. The 5 star safety they thought they were buying is now 0 stars!

"...a tear may occur ..."

If I owned an Accord I'd like to see the story from a source other than Reuters before running, screaming in panic, to my Honda dealer. Honda typically seems to over-recall for problems that wouldn't even be labeled as problems in most other cars.

Unlike Ford, who argued that Crown Vics weren't exploding into balls of flame, and if they were, it wasn't Ford's fault and they couldn't possibly do anything about it.

I'll tell you, anything that got bufued hard enough to drive the rear axle at least 2 feet forward would be likely to explode. I'd be hard pressed to blame that explosion on Ford.

Though I admit, Ford does have a mediocre recall history. A Focus driver was bagging on my Neon and Chrysler's quality. I said that at least I hadn't gotten any letters from them stating "Under no circumstances continue to operate the vehicle. Call this number to arrange transportation to your Ford dealer for service..."

That is serious. What are the chassis codes affected?
