hey hey interesting there are separate numbers for Import/Domestic.

holy cow TSX been selling like hot cakes in 04.

I suppose EL is lumped into Civic ?

Gosh looks like RLs are getting snatched right off the dock.

-- hey isn't this internal info or something ;)

Thank you, Justin!

Very interesting, especially to see it all in a package like that.

Notice that ACURA is the biggest-gaining segment.

Also: TSX's are selling a lot more than originally projected.
Over 30,000 in calendar year 2004, almost 19,000 in '03 (remember that was just a 9-month sales year).

And I see that TSX sales aren't hugely swamped by TL sales -- it's about 2.5:1 in favor of TL, but I thought it was projected to be much greater. I imagine the profit margin on TL's is greater though, so as far as Acura's interests are concerned, that ratio is magnified.

Re what RTG was asking, about the EL: Maybe this is just U.S.????
It's a general problem of what people mean by the word "American." Mostly they mean "U.S." which of course is unfair to a couple dozen other countries, including our esteemed friends to the north. I've trained myself to avoid using "American" when I mean U.S., but it's hard because there isn't a real good other adjective. Europeans say "stateside," but I don't think that really works.....

Its interesting ppl would still buy the crappy aging bland Civic. Though sales aren't as strong as they used to be (I hope 05 will see a huge drop in Civic sales). Accord isn't selling well either, I guess heavy rebates and incentives on these two cars DO help move them from dealers lots.

Acura is just on a roll with hot cars like the TSX, TL, and new RL!

WOW -- what a chart!

We can see a lot in there, if we try.
And if we have too much free time. :D

First of all, Honda has been just treading water in US sales numbers since 1997. But that's better than most other makers, except Toyota and VW.

But to me, the very most interesting thing is to see how overall vehicle sales have fluctuated over the years. They peaked in the late '70's, then leveled off for a few years, and then DROPPED in the early '80's (presumably because of the recession?), then hit the same peak again in '86 -- and have been coming DOWN ever since.

I figure that must be because of how cars have been better quality since then and have lasted longer, so people don't need to replace them so often. It COULDN'T be that there are fewer cars around, because.....isn't it pretty much obvious that the opposite is true?

doesn't surprise me...considering the track record for the Civic and it's price, people would still prefer the Civic... It's enthousiasts like us that see it this way...
