View Full Version : Lame question...

Tsxclub is ok with NWS threads in Ramblings...in good taste of cause. So here is my question...is it ok to use NWS pics for your signature? The reason I ask is because at work if you know its a NWS thread...you wouldn't open it. But one can be reading a normal thread and all of a sudden bang...someone's got a NWS sig in their post. Im a noob so I don't know what the call is with that here. Im cool with whatever the site decides. Not trying to cause anybody any problems. So forgive my noobiness. NWS sigs will really limit the time I can spend here during the weekdays. Anyways...that all....

Not that my views are ever any reflection of the real world, but..... :D

IMO Justin raises a good question. I've wondered about it myself but never said anything because it isn't an issue for me. But it has indeed occurred to me that NWS labeling of threads doesn't mean much when very NWS sigs are visible on any and all threads.

Larchmont, who has been extremely amused by those sigs, but nevertheless.....

FWIW I'd cast a strong vote for doing something about this. It makes sense.

Kind of what I was thinking. Why label anything NWS...if avatars and/or sigs can be NWS. Just to be clear...I have no problem which ever way it is suppose to be. If its allowed...I just need to limit myself browsing the site at work...way too many female coworkers in the office to take a chance.

......plus, I imagine, males with "higher standards" than us. :D

It's best to turn off signatures and avatars and images when you're in an environment that may be of a concern. That way, nothing will slip through or something you don't intend to see will appear.

Oh yeah.....you can do that!

(Does that solve it as far as you're concerned, J?)

It would be a little bit of a pain........

I ran across that problem while at work once... I forgot to turn off sigs and avatars before I started browsing... But how many people actually know how to switch back and forth?

Good discussion -- and good point, TRU.

I'm sure Justin does, although as I said it would be a bit of a pain.

But, as TRU says, some people might not know how -- or, more likely, might not even know it's possible.
(In fact, I myself had forgotten.)

And even if they DO know, they might find it not to be worth it, and might just stay away from the site at certain times, or maybe even altogether.

I think it'll come down to the site just making a choice between priorities. (Doh!) :ikno:

I'd have to say there's little or no doubt that the unrestricted sigs/avatars DO keep some people away -- some people altogether, and some people just to an extent.
OTOH of course you could say those sigs/avatars give additional "spice" to the site, which they do.

If it was me, I think I'd restrict sigs and avatars so that they'd have to be "work-safe."
But you could argue it either way.

P.S. It's possible also that these sigs/avatars tend to keep females away from the site.
No idea if it's true, but it's possible.

I turned off sigs at work because Noel had some sigs before that I considered NWS, but now its okay. I'll keep sigs off just incase anyone else has something NWS in their sigs.

I forget most of the time to turn it off. Then the rest of the time I forget to turn it back on. Either way no biggie.

Thank goodness there aren't any filters at my office.

At least none that I've found.

Any consideration among the mods/admins to restrict the sigs/avatars to WS?

Actually, we can install Linux on our machines... Assuming we have a business justification. :)

Please re-visit that thread JJ, as I was not clear on what I was asking.

Thanks
