I want a Crown Vic Police Interceptor, been thinking about finding a nice used one. I think its a safe car to drive....gotta like the V8 and RWD all in a full size sedan. I don't think any car can really survive an impact of over 70mph...I read many stories about these cars catching on fire after impact, but there are many stories I have read where these cars survived massive impacts and didn't burst into flames.

And yes Honda Accords can catch on fire when rear ended, I saw a 2002 Honda Accord V6 coupe on fire after it was rear ended on the Interstate two years ago....so its not just Crown Vics.

TSXRUS - Great find!!!!!

Notice the second sentence in the "Safest cars by model" section: safety rating that combines crash protection and accident avoidance into one score.

This is the reason why my insurance premium for a 2005 Acura TSX only increased by $20 over my 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V. The TSX has crash protection AND accident avoidance. My Nissan didn't even have ABS...which is part of accident avoidance. I was pleasantly surprised that my insurance only went up $20. My agent (Allstate) told me that it's not the cars that become expensive to the insurance agencies, it's the personal injury claims.

So the TSX is better at accident avoidance than your Sentra which means there's less likelihood of you getting hurt so the insurance company charges you more money? I think they charging more money casue it costs more to fix. A safer car should decrease your premiums.

Nice find, TRU!

I think it's only recently that any such ratings have included ACCIDENT AVOIDANCE. And it's about time. Bravo to that "Highway Safety" organization.

I've included "accident avoidance" my whole life. Not explicitly of course, but in spirit. I would read and hear all this stuff about how unsafe a smaller car is, and I'd think bull, I want a nimble car, firstly because that's what I want :D but also because that's how to avoid trouble. And I've always been convinced it was true, notwithstanding how I'd keep hearing and reading about how you're safer in some m'f'ing boat.

I'll take a TSX any time.

insurance must be a combo of accident safety and cost of car. before i got the tsx, compared it to civic, civic hybrid, prius. don't ask, was in a greenpeace mood :)

my insurance carrier, NJM, had the tsx at 50 to 150 less than the other three!

Don't feel like you have to apologize about the "hybrid" thing. When people on TSX sites have talked about wish lists for future TSX's, hybrid is one of the things that gets mentioned a bit.
They usually call it "IMA" (Integrated Motor Assist), I guess because it sounds cooler than hybrid. :D
(I guess that's what Honda calls it.)

I'd love it, as long as it didn't sacrifice other things. And it looks like companies like Honda and Toyota are making great progress on that.
