View Full Version : is my temperature sensor f**ked up?

cheori

Well, after installation of audio system, I noticed how my temperature on the screen always shows somewhere around 7 degrees. Thought it was just a weather..

Well tonight, I am pretty sure it's way below than 11 degrees... when I start the car it was showing 11 degrees, as I drive, the temperature went down to 3-4 degrees. Is this suppose to be like this? or is the temperature suppose to be at around what it actually is when I start the car?

Only modification I have is 5 channel amp and speakers in front door, woofer, and T1R voltage stablizer..

Thanks in advance. ;)

I think the temp sensor is the most accurate when you drive it for a while after you start your car.

hey cheori..do u notice anything with the t1r installed??

throttle response..
mpg..
anything? im thinkin of getting one

a lot of ppl either say its useless or they swear by it

mine is like that too...started up a little off...drive it for a while...then it dropped back to correct temp.

ditto here, except i have not seen anything colder than 20 F this year...

mine is pretty acurrate...

within 3 degree between starting and after being driven for a while.....

cheori
02-21-2005, 02:27 PM
i see. cause my friend's BMW 3 series was displaying -0.5 degrees while mine was displaying 4 degress. then when we started driving, mine fell down to -1 in about 10 minutes of driving..

T1R, to be honest, I am not too sure. lol. I got it when I first got the car, I think it does help a bit, but I think it would work best if there are ground kit installed as well.. I heard Sun Auto's Hot Inazma is way better than this one, but I couldn't find it on the local dealers, so I am stuck with this one for now. If I ever find it, I might give that a try..

btw...the T1R voltage stabilizer does give better throttle response..
as i tried dat b4...it does help...i can really feel the difference after the stabilizer installed...

Trying to read your posts is like reading those wordless comics and then trying to figure out what the story is.

Can you guys keep the PWing in the PW threads...thanks! :)

As for the temperature sensor in my TSX I notice that its usually off 2-3 degrees from the actual temperature, according to the thermo gauge I have at home. When I start the car the temperature seems low, but it goes up 2 degrees after my car gets warmed up.

taken off ajr's website

"The T1R V-Power Voltage Stabilizer regulates the voltage of the car's electrical system, providing constant voltage at all times. Normally the electrical system's voltage will fluctuate under acceleration resulting in power loss and rough power delivery. The Voltage Stabilizer eliminates this voltage fluctuation, providing a constant voltage, thereby smoothening power delivery and optimizing power. Low rpm performance is improved noticeably, with improved response, acceleration, and smoothness. Fuel economy is also improved, especially for city driving conditions. This product also features a ON/OFF switch for safer installations. Avialble in 4 colours i.e. red, blue , silver & gold."

don't think it is right.

**IF** it really works, it is even better for AT cars.
b/c AT tranny needs electricity to shift, although the mechanism is bunch of gears + fluid. Even stock AT TSX has a ground wire attached to the tranny. Doesn't have one on TL and it shifts pretty bad.

Benz

So....what you are saying is that, if I get one of those... it helps the transmission shift better? and more control on electricity flow?

I think my temp sensor is a little off. Well actually its alot off. Its been off by at least 5-7 degrees lately. Is there anyways that i can fix this myself or does the dealer have to deal with it. Where is the actual sensor itself anyways. I'm hoping the squash air freshener in front of the windshield isnt the reason why its been acting up.

Kanon23
07-26-2006, 08:28 PM
how do u know its off for 5-7 degrees? Did u use a thermometer?

06Tsxeer

no, the temp on the XM radio station for city info and stuff. Today it was like 86 out and the temp gauge said 99.

sometimes my temperature reading is higher during the night compared to the daytime of the same day dotn kno why

narci
07-27-2006, 10:01 AM
The news radio said it was 29 outside but I have 27 on my gauge. Then my TV said 28. Then the net said 30. Who is right? OMG MY TEMP IS MESSED UP.

:sigh:

Oh wait...The radio gets it's temp from the airport which is the other side of the city.

The Internet gets it downtown which is usually around 2 degrees hotter then the burbs.

The TV gets it from environment canada which is located north central of the city.

OMG Canada uses Celsius!

07-27-2006, 10:16 AM
no dude im not even bullsh*tting you, its really obvious thats its off. It'll feel really nice and cool out and the temp gauge will read some crap like 88 or something.

Sorrie....i gotta enforce the Canadian forums rule...when posting in the Canadian forum..you have to use the metric system ;)

I'm kidding.

You gotta know that the temp sensor does not take into account wind or humidity. The temp sensor I believe is located between the engine and the rad I think and is insulated with rubber or soemthing. So just saying it's cool outside has many factors such as wind movement and humidity etc. Try using a mercury temperature guage and see if there really is a huge difference.

I dunno..if you think it's off..why don't you bring it back to the dealer?

:russ: Cheori,
Sux that ur original thread got jacked. I don't know if it was answered. I didn't want to go through the trouble of reading all about the voltage stabalizers. :rolling_e I have a 2006 TSX, in page 95 of the owners manual it mentions that if you are getting incorrect readings from the temp sensor, you can manually adjust it.
Manual: "If you find that the temperature reading is always off a few degrees below or above the actual temperature, adjust it as described in the following columns."
These settings can ONLY be adjusted if your model supports the memory seats. These settings are linked to the key fobs that work with mem1 n mem2. Hope this helps!

You know what? You can't really rely on XM for your temp readings. I noticed that different cities no matter how far or close they are to your home, they will always have a different reading! It just depends moreso on your location!

For instance, I live in Hayward....Union City is about 5-10 minutes away from me, but there is always a slight temp difference between the two cities! So, you can't really rely on weather channel/radio to tell you what the temp is! It all depends on your LOCATION! =) Since Hayward is a pretty big city, I notice some temp changes within the city! So, that tells you right there that it shouldn't matter where you get the temp info from...it's all about the LOCATION! :grinno:

I would have to agree with Shay...get a mercury thermometer and check the actual temp at YOUR location. Then use my post (post 61) to adjust your temp sensor if needed. It is possible that the voltage stabalizer threw off the readings, just remember that the temp sensor IS reliant on electrical current. (Maybe itz more accurate now :D )

^^^ Yeah, I meant to emphasis EXACT location...not location! haha Temp should be measured at your EXACT location! :)

The temperature being off has to do with heat soak. If your engine has been running recently then the heat from the engine heats up the entire engine bay including the temp sensor for at least an hour or more after you turn it off. So if you get back in and start it it will read higher due to heat from the engine. After ten minutes or so of driving the wind will have cooled down the front of the car and it will be more accurate. A better location for the temp sensor woudl have made all the difference...
