dont know yet :)

its a bit too much i think
since the (BMW) Navi goes for only $1800 why should i pay $2200 for acura's

vtecfreak

Because the Acura Nav System is better than in the BMW...
I do agree that $2200 is a lot of money!

Don't quote me on this, but I don't think the BMW one is voice activated.... Plus the Acura will have voice activation for the radio and HVAC as well.

In addition to the Voice command functionality, the new-generation navigation system offers a number of improvements over the system currently found in the CL/TL. These include a full trip computer, calculator (with a handy built-in unit converter), and calendar. The calendar even allows appointments and notes to be entered. Also accessible through the Navi's LCD screen are controls for the dual-zone climate control system. In addition, primary controls for the climate system are arranged on each side of the screen. This dual-zone climate control is sure to save more than a few marriages. You can even control the climate system by voice commands through the optional navigation system.

i dont think it looks that bad without the navi either... the only thing i can think of personally as a justifiable reason to get it is if i can also use the dvd feature to play dvds :D

gotta be able to get multi purpose out of it...
i've read somewhere that its been done.. but that was with the older system.. i guess we'll find out about how it can be done with the newer one, i'm sure i'm not the only one that would like to do that

Here's my take on the NAVI. Skip it unless you actually need it.

I had the use of a 03 Honda Accord EXV6NAVI for about 3 weeks. Because of problems with the vehicle, Honda has agreed to replace it with a Honda/Acura vehicle of my choice. I'm going to replace it with a TSX Base (non Navi). Reason: I don't like where the "talk" and "Back" button was located on the steering wheel (made holding on the wheel uncomfortable); I really don't go on extended out of area trips, and when I do, use roads not in the database, and got tired of the constant and irritating "Entering unverified area" warning message; the routing didn't always pick the best route; and it was more trouble to use the audio controls by voice than simply turning the knob. I grew tired of having to wait for the initial warning message to either go away or pressing OK on the screen to tune the radio as well.

I could have either. My EXV6 NAVI should have a higher price than the base TSX which will replace it, and should be a little less as a TSX with NAVI, so I could have my choice.

All in all, unless you actually will use it for out of area trips on main roads, it's not worth it in my opinion.

You can't use conventional DVD's in the NAVI system. There is an unused PMCIA port on the DVD player, but it's unlikely ever to be utilized.

What type of problems did you have with the car? I was considering that car with the 6spd manual which I believe is coming out this month. Was it a mechanical or electrical?

Here are some of the reasons that another acura driver with a navi system suggested me to get the navi for the TSX. For ~2200 I don't think I will REALLY NEED the navi system. It would be nice to have if I can barter with the dealer and drop that price.

The Acura Navigation System is voice activated (2003 MDX and 2004 TSX). You can say "Find the nearest Italian restaurant", and it will show you a list of Italian restaurants sorted by distance from you current location. You can also as for Chinese, Mexican or even fast food restaurants (there are many types). Once the list comes up you can just say "nearest" or select a number such as "number 3". The system will show you the address and phone number before you confirm with "OK". This is great for calling ahead to see what the "wait" is for a table. You can also find the nearest gas station, ATM and many other think - all without lifting a finger. Of course all these functions can be accessed by using the large LCD touch screen. There is also a joystick cursor control. If you are going to a party at someone house at 4523 St. Legend Lane, Anywhere, USA, just type in the city and street address and it will guide you there. In addition to the onscreen map, a voice (man or women - you choose) gives you turn by turn directions. It even tell you what lane to be in as you approach confusing and unfamiliar interchanges. If traffic is heavy, or a road is closed, you can detour around or avoid a street or highway altogether. As you approach a turn, the system gives you a count down in hundreds of feet do you know exactly when to turn - no more looking for hidden street signs. If you do get off course (take a wrong turn), the system recalulates based on your current position and direction. Rather than have you do a dangerous U-turn, the system will try to get you back on course by moving you forward and having you turn ahead. If you are listnening to the radio or if your kids have the rear DVD entertainment on, the program will mute momentarily while the navigator voice gives you directions. The large LCD screen is quite stunning and alway provokes a "Wow!" from visiting riders - especially if they have a navigation system in their BMW (these are sorry and hardly used).
If you go off-road, a "bread-crumb" feature shows your route with dots, so you can find your way home later. If your going car shopping in the city, plug in all the dealerships before you leave and the system will compute the most efficient trip to all of them - leaving you more time for test drives. You can re-order the destinations at any time. And of course you are always given time and distance to travel (or you can just ask "How long until destination?" and he/she will you. If you are backing up (in the MDX anyway) the Navi screen shows you whats behind the vehicle (a camera is near the license plate). Admittedly, you could probably get all the features for less if you want to get aftermarket. But know car maker does it better or cleaner than Acura.

My 03 EXV6 Navi Sedan suffered from a popping sound from the left A-Pillar when starting/stopping/turning which was probably a bad weld. I'm not the only one who has had this problem with new EXV6's (and possibly some EXI4's as well). There is no cure at this time, although Honda is trying to figure out a fix. Since it couldn't be fixed, I asked for a refund. I refused to take another for fear it would suffer the same fate, and they offered a TSX instead of a refund, which I accepted, hoping the Japan will be of better build quaility than the 03 Accord I received.

As for the NAVI, I live in a small town. Pretty much know where all the ATM's and restaurant's are. And I really got tired of having to endure that start up delay feature. And I found that at highway speeds voice recognition worked about half the time. If I delivered pizza's for Domino's in a large city, I would get it. Otherwise. spend it on something else. The wow factor disapears after about a week, and then I found it just plain annoying. Plus the controls on the wheel (which are virtually identical to the TSX's), interfered with comfortable placement of my hand.

This is just my impression and certainly my opinion. Others may differ. Since I had the chance to do it over, I choose the Base model, and Honda pays the difference, since my EXV6 MSRP was higher (or probably will be higher) than a base TSX.

I also have a 03 EXV6 Coupe (for another family member). It did not (as of yet) suffer from the problem I had with the sedan.

I ordered the navi on mine. I don't need it, but I thought it would be very convienient. I do a decent amount of traveling and have used nav before. But this is a much more advance system. As long as it helps me find ATMs when I need them and a place to eat when I am out of town, I will consider it money well spent. And as someone asked: there is no monthly or additional cost for using the signal from the satalites... the satalites are part of the US Military's location system and were paid for with US tax dollars. All they do is send the signals... the navi figures it out from there (free of charge)

now how the heck they managed to do that ? - messing up yer wheels.
What kind of rattle you got from the moonroof ?
Mine with the shade open has this "squeeeg, squeeeg" sound - i attributed it to
the rubber seal rubbing.

I have no idea... When my car was less then two months old, the rotors became warped (felt under braking). I took it back, and they faced them for free. When I picked up my car, one wheel had a HUGE gash in it, and the locking lugs had just about been stripped.
The moonroof rattle they found, and fixed. I actually never heard it, but they said it was one that I was hearing with my numerous complaint's.
Current time. Passenger door rattle is now a "different" rattle. Seems they found it, and "almost" fixed what ever it was. And to make matters worse, now my driver side door is rattling, which it did not do before.
This is my reward for them having my car for three weeks, while fixing everything.
Joker - who has new wheel's, and lug's, but CAN'T STAND THE FRIGGING RATTLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsdow
BTW, I feel this car also getting traded in (for an S2K) VERY soon

The navi is cool and very useful, but as I have found out it is a hindrance if you want to add an aftermarket stereo as this voids your warranty. Oh and replacing the navi is $3500 plus labor.

vp911
10-31-2004, 01:45 PM
when you say aftermarket stereo...do you mean a new head unit? or just speakers? if they are speakers it wont void the warranty on the nav system... on the other hand, why you would replace the nav system with a new head unit...(if even possible... which i doubt because it controls the hvac settings and all) then of course the warranty would be voided on the nav sys....

I have a stereo system consisting of all new door speakers, 2 subs, 2 amps, and all that is necessary to make it come together. To install though, it is necessary to tap into the factory system somewhere, which is somthing that the dealer would frown on if anything were to happen. But no I do not wish to change the head unit itself.

Sure, they will frown on it, but they cannot deny you warranty work if the head unit fails unless they can SPECIFICALLY PROVE that your aftermarket mods caused the problem... burden of proof is all on the dealer... granted of course they wont cover your new speakers.. lol

I'm looking into getting a TSX in the spring and I will most likely pick up the nav system. Have you ever had a time when you got lost and then wasted an hour or so just finding your way out?
