Hi, I'm a Newby.

I'm looking for guidance on purchasing a TSX in the Chicago area. Got a quote from Ed Napleton after three hours last Friday: $26,900 (total) for Red w/ black interior no-Navi + foglights, mud-guards, rubber mats, trunk net, & trunk tray. The car would have 300 miles on it since it would come from Ohio. I was not happy with the price and the miles. If I wanted navi I was told to add $2k.

I thought the price should've been an $26,000 to $26,400. Any thoughts or ideas?

From my experience, many Chicagoland Acura dealers aren't really willing to negotiate on prices. I used to live in Aurora/Naperville and ended up flying to St. Louis and Kansas City to look for a TSX for under $27k and I ended up buying my TSX from Superior Acura in Kansas. Back in 2003 Chicago dealers were trying to charge $28k to even $30k for a TSX. $26,500 is the price I paid for mines back in May 2003 (spoiler, wheel locks, mudguards, trunk tray), though you should be able to negotiate to $26k, if things have changed at Continental, both McGraths, and Joe Rizza Acuras. Also, try to explain to them about the extra mileage and anyway to lower the price a bit. I managed to knock $150 off the price of my TSX since it was the sales manager's take home car before I bought it.

Since you're in the chicagoland area...you may want to visit a few other dealerships around and basically shop around. Maybe even pit them against each other. I got mine at Mullers, but I didn't shop around since they were the closest dealership to me and I just wanted to buy the car.

Thanks for the advice. Before visiting these forums I thought everybody had paid $1300 over invoice and all Acura dealers were pushy and agressive. The dealer I went to was so pushy that I can swear the last two Chevy purchases (I know, I know...) I made were easier. I was really disappointed since this was a premium car dealer.

Did you settle on the price over the phone or in person? Because I had an internet quote for the dealer through Acura.com, then the dealer "had no record of it" when I arrived. When he told me over the phone he had a car, there was no car around with my specs for 300 miles around.

Stay away from Ed Napleton in Elmhurst, IL!!!

I'll keep shopping, thanks again.

This is why I avoided Chicago dealers when buying my TSX. They do try to pressure you to buy and at the same time try to sell for more than what the car is worth. I wouldn't pay over $27k for a TSX IMO. You can try Continental Acura in Naperville, don't really remember much but their service dept is quite good.

I went to Muller's first to check out and test drive a TSX. Then went to Arlington Acura to test drive again. Arlington wouldn't hold the color combo that I wanted and all they had were MSM's. I went back to Muller's and they held the next TSX with my color combo with an approx date and I only put 1k down. Both places weren't willing to budge with the price at the time (July '03) but neither was Continental so I just paid MSRP for my TSX.

I just ordered a TSX, 6M, no nav, at Joe Rizza in Orland Park and my price was lower than the price you quote from Ed Napleton. I have no experience with this dealer other than this first contact on the purchase. Check them out.

Hi,

I work right down the street from Joe Rizza. I was planning on checking them out when I was ready to buy a TSX. I am looking to buy after christmas and before the new year. Did you have a good expericnce with them? Where they pushy and full of BS? What was the price that you got from them for the car that you ordered?

Thanks for the help

Brandon

Go to the one in Downers Grove...Ed Napelton is garbage. I got a sweet deal from the Downers dealership on Ogden.

Thanks
Brandon

I paid $30k OTD for a 2006 TSX with navi and season mats at the End of April of 2006. That is about $300 over invoice.
