He was driving just fine yesterday, THEN it died while he was going down the road. No prior warning or anything.

I'm not sure of the model but I know it's a 1999.

Strange thing... When you turn the key to the start position it'll start just fine. BUT then it'll die imediatly when you release the key to the run position. HOWEVER, if you hold the key in the start position it will stay running.
Have any of you experienced such a thing?
I'm thinking it's the ignition switch. Any other suggestions?

Hondas are notoriuos for ignition switch problems. A number of recalls on them (2 on my 1999 Prelude to date and 1 on our once-owned Accord).

Another one to add ... Yes, ignition switching problems. Common as well, as indicated by Miner.
